OSDM had so many great bands who fell into obscurity. Post albums and eps that are old school gems. Please refrain from posting albums that most DM fans know of. Descriptions in posts please.

Detest - Dorval

Crystal Age - Far Beyond Horizons

Jumpin Jesus - The Art of Crucifying

To prevent just listing, how about you try to describe the sound of these albums?

Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uh6wB4lQYO4
This album has one hell of a guitar tone. Has a very cryptic atmosphere.

Adramelech - Psychostasia
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xN1LhsiXZ68
Often compared to Demigod. There are some catchy as fuck riffs in here.

Fleshcrawl - Descend into the Absurd
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1Wmi6tZ8ZI
Has a very strong doom influence. Recommended for fans of Autopsy and diSEMBOWELMENT.

Massacra - Final Holocaust
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3epnOR7nklM
Death/Thrash. Extremely fast and heavy throughout.

Detest - Dorval
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6qYcehGQtE
Really spacey and technical death metal.

Crystal Age - Far Beyond Horizons
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avreO5bP7sc
Insane guitar solos and riffs with Star Wars themes.

Jumpin Jesus - The Art of Crucifying
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJUPsXL5tyY
The only band I posted without sci fi themes. Once again technical as hell guitar riffs with a dual vocal attack alternating with screams and grunts.

Yeah I forgot list threads weren't allowed so put a discription and possibly a youtube link with the albums.

Gutted-"Bleed For Us To Live"

Basically Dismember/Entombed covering "Cause of Death". Damn brutal.

Also, I know this is fairly well known, but I think Incantation's Diabolical Conquest is miles ahead of their praised debut.

I personally would like to hear more descriptions of these bands rather than just a youtube link.

Imapler - Charnel Deity.

Sludgy death/thrash from the UK. Only release by this band. Simplistic but I love the crushing riffs.

Fantastic old school gem that still kicks ass, even if hardly anyone has ever heard it. Crushing, yet melodic without watering down to any mediocre standards.

Yeah, that old thread held a lot of gold, very worthwhile to go through it again.

I believe I posted some good stuff I don't see mentioned that often in the old thread, so people can take a look there. It's getting late now, but I'll try to see if I can contribute better tomorrow.

Some obscure DM albums I know that aren't difficult to obtain are:
Accidental Suicide - Deceased (pretty cheap on ebay for first presses)
Convulse - World Without God (reissued by relapse)
Baphomet - The Dead Shall Inherit (also reissued recently)
Unfortunately the only way to obtain a lot of these albums is to download.

Psychic Pawn - Decadent Delirium
Image

Malevolent Creation-influenced death metal from Arizona.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVINUx3XuDk

Exoto - Carnival of Souls
Image

Extremely catchy Belgian death/thrash.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0ujwIGy7ig

Rhadamantys - Labyrinth of Thoughts
Image

I rarely hear people talk about these guys. Epic experimental death metal from Holland. Had members of Creepmime.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7nS-ghdZxE

Crucifixion - Desert of Shattered Hopes
Image

Dark occult death metal from Texas.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2vSOg0MXso

Graveside - Sinful Accession
Image

Excellent technical death metal from Russia. For fans of early Gorguts.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVXoRrcxWjg

...and here's a couple that are probably impossible to find as they were only released on cassette in limited quantities, but I'll mention them anyway as I do consider them "gems". Unfortunately I don't have my tape player handy at the moment so I can't upload any samples.

Danger Drive - Darkness Comes...
Image

Dark, thrashy death metal from Poland. With better production and CD treatment this album had the potential of becoming a minor classic. I guess it has a special place in my heart because it was my very first taste of Polish death metal when I lived there in the early 90s.

Feretrum - From Far Beyond
Image

Completely killer Spanish death metal. Like a darker Left Hand Path meets a more chaotic Blessed are the Sick. As with Danger Drive, the raw production and tape-only release (100 copies!) definitely hurt this band.

Maybe I'll post more later...

Great album, but I think Adramelech's Psychostasia is the best Scandinavian DM album.

Don't think I saw this mentioned in the previous death metal gems thread, so I'll post it here.

Chemical Breath - Fatal Exposure
Image

One of the earliest death metal releases from Belgium and a damn fine one at that. Criminally under-rated stuff.

Moondark - Demo 1993/The Shadowpath

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqgpRBdsrlg

a short lived swedish death metal band with an over-the-top buzzsaw guitar tone, extremely good stuff here

Morpheus Descends - Ritual Of Infinity

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aao3B0fZRQc

formed in 1990 as morpheus, this band is probabbly one of the pioneers of the NYDM scene. the music is raw, fast with a shitload of attitude

Crypt Of Kerberos - World Of Myths

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Epfrdom4ngc

one of the most technical/experimental bands from the early 90s swedish DM scene

Toxodeth - Mysteries About Life and Death

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HhRAyYeEtI

one of the greatest bands ever in mexico. the album is extremely technical and raw

Catacomb (Fra) - In The Maze Of Kadath

Image
Finnish/Swedish style death metal from France. Good reference points would be Demigod and Gorement.

Beheaded (Mlt) - Souldead

Image
While the band itself is not very obscure, this demo certainly is. Amazing Infester-esque brutal death with some melodic influences, there's even an acoustic guitar solo in the last track!

Stargazer/Invocation (Aus) - Harbringer/H.A.S.T.U.R.

Image
Invocation's side of this split sounds like Blessed Are The Sick -era Morbid Angel mixed with Portal. Good.

edit:

Absorbed (Esp) - Unreal Overflows

Image
Fairly technical early death metal from Spain. I can't compare it to any bands right now, but it's awesome.

Illdisposed - Four Depressive Seasons

Absolutely punishing death metal. Reminds me a bit of diSEMBOWELMENT in terms of brutality.

There's a ton of great Scandinavian death metal albums from that time period, it's hard to choose which is best, but I'd have to go with Internal Caustic Torments for my favorite for now. Psychostasia is an awesome album as well though.

Viogression - Expound and Exhort

Skeleton of God - Urine Garden

There's my three cents.

Blogspot is your friend for obscure metal. They might be mentioned a lot here, but Timeghoul's two demos are excellent, and are getting rereleased on CD.

Massacra-Enjoy the Violence.

This is some brutal French old school death metal. Precise & interesting riffs with humorous and harsh vocals.

From the song Enjoy the Violence:

"Your neighbour is always fucking you around
Put your fingers in his eyes and scratch them out

You hate the collector and the income tax
Keep your money and cut him to pieces with an axe

You've had enough of cops and parking tickets
Take your gun and riddle them with bullets"

I didn't like Excrement - Scorched. I am listening to it again now through headphones and it sounds better than when I reviewed it from listening to it in laptop speakers but it is still pretty dull. The drums are also not very well done in my opinion.

Yeah, the drums are pretty bland. Aside from that though I like it; something about the atmosphere I find appealing. I don't know, maybe I just have shitty taste :p

Purtenance - Member of Immortal Damnation
Image
Shamefully underrated. Formerly known as Purtenance Avulsion.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEuGiXJ1 ... re=related

Sentenced - Shadows of the Past
Image
Before they turned to shit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlDOsxU7 ... re=related

Putrid (Fin) - God Forsaken
Image
Once again, shamefully underrated Finnish DM.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROPRoTplNTc

Funebre (Fin) - Children of the Scorn
Image
One of the first Finnish DM bands apparently. Disappeared into obscurity after this album.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYAE_EkJ ... re=related

Sickening Gore - Destructive Reality
Image
This was this band's only release. Killer DM from Swizerland.

Oh, i almost forgot Moondark
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDkb46lf5b0

released a reissue of a demo in 07' originally recorded in 93' raw sounding, buzzing guitars, and super low gutterals.

Edit: someone else already mentioned them, woops. but still, check them out
