Scale the Summit:

Though I do really love these guys, I find their music to have more rock influence than metal. It's even stated in one of their blogs that the band doesn't consider them metal.

Witness:

Scale the Summit on a concert they performed wrote:
Show tonight was insane! We had our first ever legitimate mosh pit during our set. We don't really consider this band a "metal" band, as its really not, but none of us care.

Here's something I submitted long before the worldwide distribution rule came into existence, Maniac's Voluspå. The demo is self-released, the split was released by The Ajna Offensive, which I think is rather small, underground-ish label.

By the way, here's an older post from Derigin regarding band comparisons:

Derigin wrote:
Claiming bands as comparisons and influences to the band in question does it no justice; bands are accepted on their own music, not on whether or not they are influenced by X band or can be compared to a certain work of Y band. Keep in mind that the problem in comparing bands for 'metalness' is what and how you're comparing; more often than not, comparisons run the risk of comparing the non-metal attributes of one band to the non-metal attributes of another. Somehow that is used as justification for acceptance as a metal band, given the inclusion of one band in MA already. Many bands on MA have non-metal attributes, but for those bands, the non-metal is outweighed by the metal. In this case, it is not.

The reason I bring this up is because I've been doing some thinking about Flower Travellin' Band, whose inclusion is usually justified by comparisons to Black Sabbath. Now, I have most of their discography, and they definitely are very similar to Black Sabbath in many ways, but I feel that these similarities are almost exclusively restricted to the non-metal elements of Black Sabbath's sound. There are plenty of parallels to Sabbath's bluesy roots and their mystical, psychedelic approach, but I fail to hear any crushing, metallic "Symptom of the Universe" sort of riffs in any of their music. I dunno, you'll probably disagree with me, but I thought it might be worth discussing...

There's a few moments on Satori that are definitely metal (that one song with the big electric funeral vibe, forget which one). Predominantly metal, though? Well, that's another matter entirely.

Yes, I actually agree with you upon listening to it, since I accepted it based on several reviews without samples back then. I will look on it later - no time at the moment

The same Demo / Different band? Tracklist is the same.

WRETCHED ( Maryland) http://www.metal-archives.com/release.php?id=102238

WRETCHED (Illinois) http://www.metal-archives.com/release.php?id=252682

P.S I remember old flyers from Illinois band with Demo adds so I think Marylands WRETCHED demo is incorrect.

Boohwal was reprted as never being metal, so I downloaded Vol.1 and they were right - mostly rock ballads with one or two hard rock songs mixed in.

I do not see there any evidence of a physical release. If you have it, present it.
Amd also read the first post in this thread which speaks about physical evidence.

Is there a way to see what bands are being deleted when users are just posting the links without the bands' name? I always seem to click the links too late. It's obviously not too important, I'm just curious.

If the band has had a spot on the Archive for a considerable length of time (long enough to be captured and archived by Google, that is) then you can always put this into the Google search option in the Encyclopaedia search function (under band name, line-up, etc.):

/band.php?id=(insert band ID)

For me, it works most of the time. Of course you can't view the page (unless Google has a cache of it), but the name is displayed.

Well, there are traces of metal on their album "Hermeneutics", which can be heard here:
http://www.nordncommander.com/rus/audio.htm
(it was released physically by More Hate Prod.)
though the guitar sounds suspiciously to me, sometimes it seems that it was programmed.
