Hello there people, as the title suggests, I'm looking for some more bands in the style of Megadeth and Metallica. I'm not looking for more thrash in that really... uhm... well... thrashy style (fast, chaotic, high-pitched vocals, much focus on lead instead of rhythm). I am specifically looking for that way of guitar those two bands play. I can't really define what I mean, but I guess you can hear the difference between the guitars in Metallica - Phantom Lord and Metal Church - Metal Church. Can anyone help me out with this?

EDIT: Please, don't spite me for being a noob for just naming these two rather popular bands. I've been getting into all kinds of metal for the last few years. These are two of the first bands I listened to a lot, and since then I've been getting to know a lot of different bands in a lot of different genres, but I haven't really quite found two thrash metal bands that I like as much as these two. Most thrash metal bands I've heard are just... I don't know, I guess it's a different approach Dave started with or something.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but I think Testament sounds a lot like Metallica sometimes.

Havoc - Sounds alot like "Kill em All"

Annihilator - They have been called the Canadian Metallica.

Newer Trivium albums sound a lot like metallica. I don't really enjoy em but you might like them.

Evile - A little heavier but you might like them.

Old Exodus - Less melodic and more heavy but the guy sounds a bit like dave mustaine with a lisp.

Sanctity - Very melodic and catchy.

Check out Xentrix's For Whose Advantage? for some decent thrash. I swear the vocalist sounds similar to Hetfield.

Other thrash of note is Artillery, who have great riffs and high pitched vocals. See R.I.P..

If you like Master of Puppets' production, Overkill has a couple of albums with a similar guitar tone. Elimination even has a similar riff to the title track in MoP.

In a way, Heathen's Victims of Deception can be considered a combination of Master of Puppets and AJFA, in the production and the progressive playing style. See Hypnotized. Personally, I prefer their debut.

Don't limit yourself to listening to bands that sound similar to Megadeth and Metallica. While they may be a good starting point, make sure you branch out and check out other good stuff like Coroner, Sodom and Morbid Saint. :)

Have you tried Anthrax - Spreading The Disease yet by the way?

It's a very vague recommendation, and I know this isn't a thrash band, but for some reason I feel like mentioning Mercyful Fate. You say you want twin guitars that sound kinda similar to a Metallica/Megadeth type of sound...for some reason I kinda get the same type of groove with MF. They were Dave Mustaine's biggest influence after all.

Flotsam & Jetsam. Even ex-Metallica bassist, Jason Newsted, started there. The first album, Doomsday For The Deceiver, is a must have classic. imo

Yea. What he said. And you have to hit the German thrash trifecta that is Kreator, Destruction, and the before mentioned Sodom.

Seconded. I remember someone saying that this album succeeded in doing what Master of Puppets failed to do. I like both, but Years of Decay is fucking brilliant.

I can highly recommend Stone http://www.metal-archives.com/index.php
For a while I dismissed them as Metallica wannabes from the golden age but then metallica$h posed-out and I found Stone to be damned good!

This one may be a bit of a stretch, but how about the Canadian band Sword? I really think their second release, Sweet Dreams, really fits what the DethCubeK is looking for (at IMHO).

try Vio-lence, they went took the crazier, high on speed, riffriffriff of Megadeth to the next level. i'll also say Dark Angel on that note

for less intense more Metal Church-y stuff i'd say try out Toxik and Ulyssess Siren.

yep I agree with pre-posts of ANNIHILATOR. That is one step ahead to discover new variations and elements of metal for listeners of bands like Metallica and Megadeth

Check out Elm Street for modern thrash.
Check out the argentinean band Criptofonia, they play in the Annihilator/Megadeth crazy riffs vein.
First Death Angel album sounds a lot like Kill Em All but a little bit more heavier at times, later Death Angel
may also apeal to your criteria, light, catchy thrash metal fun!
For more modern thrash madness check out Tantara and Vindicator!

Definitely seconding this, especially their Face Of Despair album (since that's the one I've actually listened to plenty of times). Not only is it well within the style of Metallica and Megadeth, but even the vocalist sounds like some sort of hybrid of those two guys in a way.

Mantic fuckin' Ritual! This band has similar thrash patterns to early Metallica and Deth. Mantic Ritual have always reminded me of a heavier 'Kill Em All' Metallica. They're a band that I dig a lot. Pity they split up after releasing an album. Check out some songs here:

Hope it meets your criteria. If not, they're still worth checking out.

Hell yes! They're probably the only retro thrash band I actually enjoy. Came in to post about, but I see it's been done for me!

Really old Exodus. Almost sounds like they have Kirk Hammett.

On a more serious not than my joke about Exodus, early Testament sounds a lot like a better Metallica at times.

I hated it when I bought it years ago, but Onslaught's "In Search of Sanity" reminded me heavily of Metallica, albeit with a more trad vocal style. Give it a go:

Aah. I just recalled Wargasm's style was a bit like early 'tallica and 'deth. While they were not a great 80s thrash band but since it suits this thread, I'm mentioning them to you. Worth checking out.
