Hey im looking for some mid-paced black metal, with an epic feel to it.

Bands that i believe sound like this and hit close to what im looking for are

Immortal - All Shall Fall album (songs like All shall fall and Unearthly Kingdom)

Enslaved (i know its viking but..) - Songs like "Havenless", the main riffing is nice and mid-paced and still epic

Celtic Frost - Procreation of The Wicked (a on the verge of being a little slow but still awesome)

Bathory - has some good midpaced.

Im looking for good mid-paced black metal, i also like good drums, not really fast but very heavy and loud that keep a certain beat to the song.

thanks

Pest's 'Dauðafærð'. One-track EP that spans for 20 minutes of extremely aggressive, heavy and melancholic mid-paced black metal. Drums are great if you like minimal stuff but the riffs and vocals are the main draw of the album as they're extremely venomous and tenebrous.

Anything similar to Agrypnie - adventurous and melodic, but most importantly retaining the emotive warmth that they then go on to destroy with 'cold' BM.

Thanks

Nothing similar to Moonblood? :(

Also, to anybody who likes the raw variety of black metal, with some viking influence too, listen to Bloodaxe. Quality stuff!

I know I'm being vague enough as it is, but could anyone rec me some of the "must have" black metal albums for metal? I think that would be a good place for me to start.

Or should the link that was provided on the OP's post suffice? (when it comes to big names, respectively)

I'm looking for early Bathory worship bands/albums. Preferably as close to Bathory as possible. Favorite albums are The Return... and Under the Sign, so anything in that style will do. Good example of what I'm looking for is Immortal's Hordes to War ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEM9dd7NvZQ ), but it's only one song. I don't mind sloppy production, as long as the riffs are audible. Preferably real drums as well, but well-programmed drums aren't a biggie.

I would like to get some heavy/black fusion or black metal with lots of heavy metal influence. I can think of two examples - Zemial and Master's Hammer. Basically I want catchy riffs, some solos, good measure of epicness and melody.

Thanks in advance.

Blackened Heavy Metal, with some cool falsetto screams here and there.

Thank you guys, all of those bands are great. I think I like Diabolical Masquerade the best. Bewitched are fine as well, a bit more cheesy but it works for me. Hellward are almost spot on.

Hi,

first, i am not so good in english. I hope you can understand what i am looking for. It is maybe a little bit hard to describe.

I am looking for black metal that sounds melancholic, maybe also depressive but not bands like Xasthur, Abyssic Hate, Leviathan etc. I also dont like these high pitched scream or extreme bad production. I like bands like Strid, Make a change ..., Kilte (the two songs from the split with Funeral Mourning), Inferi (i like it more than Burzum), Drudkh (especially songs like the price of freedom, skies at our feets or solitude), Feigur (posthumus remorse sounds very great) or also Lustre. But a few days ago i found a band that arrests my attention Sui Caedere. Or there is also a band called Gris. I like their music but cant handle their voice. It sounds somethimes so "hectic". But "La dryade" sounds also very very good.

It looks a bit chaotic? Hard to explain what i am looking for. So it should be black metal. No gothic or these shoegaze stuff, i tried it but i dont like it. It should be melodic, maybe a bit romatic(?), sad or melancholic / depressive. Only instrumental like "la dryade" is also great. I want to see nature in my mind, falling snow on a grey wintersday but also the last rays of a perish autumns sun. Maybe someone knows what i mean.

If you answer or not - thanks for reading so far!!

(Hallo Leviathan27. Dein Englisch ist doch völlig ok ;) )

Though the vocals may be a bit too screamy (like in Gris) you should give Svarti Loghin ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zNidSM0lg4 ), Austere ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hm22TfYbNhY ) and maybe also Allvaters Zorn a try...

(prima wenn man es doch versteht)

I tried Austere and it is the same with their vocals. The Music is good but the vocals, but in this case the clean vocals are more annoying than the screams. But i have seen the name of svarti loghin also in this thread: http://www.metal-archives.com/board/vie ... hp?t=60147 but the most of these recomendations are not what i am looking for. Maybe Veil seems to be good. OK, i dont search music that sounds epic. I guess quiet is more the word.

hmm, I think I know what you're looking for - but unfortunately I don't know of a band coming close :(

Maybe you could try Blutklinge's "Reflection of a Bleak Mind" album as it's mostly instrumental...

Dude to me this just screams out one of my favourites, Horn, more black metal than folk, but they/he fully focus on nature and can write some beautiful melacholic music, try this track see what you think, the melodie at 6.20 is awesome! -

Thanks so far for your answers!!

Cloud in a Circle seemed to be good, but after i have seen their titles hmm ... santa gave me a gun? I cant say it in english so ... vielleicht hab ich da eine zu eigene Vorstellung, aber wenn ein Lied so heißt finde ich das ehr albern und es trübt den Eindruck zu sehr.

But i tried Veil (sombre) and they sound very good (so far), what i have heard was nearly what i am searching. Maybe there are some bands in the black metal / ambient genre? Lustre is releasing something in the near future that sounds promissing.

@L27: Try Nasheim, Abyssmal Sorrow, Kargvint, Klage
maybe Slaktare too...though this sounds very melancholic, but the vocals aren't high-pitched.

I'm looking for something similar to Gorgoroth's "
Quantos Possund ad Satanitatem Trahunt". I heard that this album's pace is slower than their earlier efforts, more melodic... Any bands to recommend?

Moonsorrow's been my favorite band for quite awhile and I've usually just stayed to the folk metal side of their musical spectrum when it comes to checking out similar bands. However, I've developed an obsession with their latest EP, Tulimyrsky which, in case you didn't know, is certainly a black metal release. Essentially, I'm looking for anything similar.

* Good or great production (nothing distorted or raw)
* Fast and aggressive riffs
* Some genre-mixing, be it heavily blackened folk or progressive
* Foreign lyrics would be an absolute dream since, in all honesty, most black metal lyrics are heavily clichéd and I'd rather not hear about Satan again...

Appreciate all the help, guys, and happy new year!

@ COMPLEXITY:

You MUST listen to the majestic KRODA from the Ukraine, especially their lastest full-length, Fimbulvinter, which has the best production of any of their albums. In general, Kroda have extremely fast and aggressive riffs at points in every one of their songs, are very folky (beautifully incorporated, not pretentious or annoying), and have all-foreign lyrics delievered powerfully. Their songwriting is second to none, and they are simply the best band in their style.

Listen to this masterpiece of a song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLqLyljO8Ms

you should give BORKNAGAR's debut album (s/t) and maybe also the two followers a try (but esp. the first one being a major inspiration (as read in Moonsorrow interviews) for Moonsorrow's direction since Verisäkeet)

also the latest one from WOODTEMPLE and WYRD'S first albums may work...

also IN THE WOODS... debut (HEart of the Ages) coulbe sth for you but maybe it's not blackish enough (anyway fantastic music!)

My apologies, this post was supposed to be directed at @ COMPLEXITY

Aes Dana is a celtic influenced black metal band and are quite aggressive riffwise. The added bonus is that the lyrics are entirely in French (hope you don't know that language)

Another band I can't recommend enough is the highly underrated Mutilanova, who as well perform the vocals entirely in French and have a subtle folk influence along with some catchy riffs and melodies. You probably won't be able to find their music, but I was lucky enough to obtain a free legal copy from a website distributing obscure material but unfortunately the link is no longer valid. Check the myspace though if you want to listen to a few tracks.

Fjoergyn perform all their lyrics in German and make the language sound quite beautiful. They have some nice acoustic/progressive elements in their compositions and the music has such a majestic feeling and atmosphere. I especially recommend their latest "Jahreszeiten".

Wow, Lunar Poetry is very highly rated on it's review section. A straight flush of one hundred percents. I have heard some of their other stuff here and there and did not dig it at all but have not heard anything from Lunar.

So, I recently discovered Keep of Kalessin. I'm loving their style on Kolossus and Armada. If anyone could point me in the direction of quality music like that, I'd be grateful. I'm not really a black metal fan, but KoK's style really did it for me. Basically, I only really enjoy two bands of the sort, that being Enslaved and Keep of Kalessin. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Thanks for the recommendations, McCannFan and grauer_mausling. Kroda is exactly what I was looking for. I've already ordered Похорон Сонця and it's on the way! I had already heard of Wyrd and like them quite a bit, although their latest Kalivägi was quite a disappointment. Continuing, In The Woods... was a very pleasant surprise! Not quite like Moonsorrow but nonetheless, very enjoyable music. Thanks again, guys!

There's Horna's tribute album to Bathory which sounds so authentic it's questionable. Sotahuuto 's the name.

I recently got Horna's discography, really enjoying it.

I'll check out Hellfire and Damnation, thanks. :)

Edit: Hellfire is cool, but seems to be missing something. Damnation on the other hand is absolutely amazing. Not pure Bathory worship but the influences are definitely there.

@NAMED

check out Unhold, he the vocalist/one man behind the band Luror and a few other projects I've yet to check out. His vocals are quite distant and slightly insane on the "The Iron Hand of Blackest Terror" album and particularly on the song "Smoke and Stardust". You can still find that song on his myspace the last time I checked.

And unless you have something against christian black metal, check out Evroklidon's full length, "The Flames of Sodom". They are actually a decent black metal project overall and the vocalist sounds rather demented.

I was responding to Joeltl1349's request, so that should be aimed at him.

If anybody wants to help me find more black metal like Lutomysl or Mgla though I'd be greatly appreciative.

Pretty good Bathory worship would be Morrigan from Germany, particularly the album Celts. The pagan era of Bathory.

As for depressive BM, you want Trist and Life is Pain. Catchy riffing, perfect melodies, strong atmosphere, insane vocals (particularly the later band). German band Anti is also very good.
