You must forget, I used to have long hair for a long time. Been there, done that. Shaved it all off on a whim and didn't even care.

Not everyone can pull off the bald look man, myself included. Regardless, I imagine I'll cut mine short in a few years.

I do find it mildly amusing that an album called Join the Army incites memories of having ones head shaved.

'Crowds' by Bauhaus is an absolutely amazing song, but I find it really tough to listen to - I think most people do! Just give it a listen and you'll see why.

The outro to 'Floods' by Pantera just makes me blubber like a little baby. I don't even really know why, I've no tangible memories associated with it, aside from a general lost-love kinda feeling, and I hate the band, but it is a hugely heartfelt song which really culminates in the outro for me.

The last lines of 'Backlit' by Isis have begun to have new- painful- meanings for me recently so that's a song I'm currently avoiding. Pity, as it's an amazing song.

I was dating this guy and he had introduced me to King Diamond/Mercyful Fate and "Angel of Light" used to be our song.

I try not to let it get to me much, but I know I love that song because I love it and not because some I shared it with some asshole.

I listen to alot of the Glam Metal 80's power ballads and many gothic metal artist works, and it just strikes a chord when I listen to them. Because it reminds me of a relationship I once had where I was in love with my best friend and she rejected me and our relationship went to hell. Funny thing is we are still friends, just in a hellish relationship. But hey, life hasnt really gotten worse for me just yet so, ima continue to say thats the worst so far.

"More Than This" by Roxy Music breaks my heart though it is not connected to any specific memory.

I tend to shy away from music I listened to in high school and early college because it makes me all nostalgic and sappy and makes me feel old even though I'm only 22...

I was incredibly depressed for no real reason last year in school and I was listening to Lunar Aurora's Findling and I was definitely shedding a few tears in class, it sucked.

Back in high school i used to listen to a lot of Cannibal Corpse to let the anger out after really shit days at school for a numerous amount of reasons. When i listen to the same songs nowadays id think of the con: reminds me of what i had to put up with for 6 years straight. although i end up thinking the pro: it was only this band and metal in general that got me through the bad times.

Being more specific, i was listening to Razor's 'Gatecrasher' the moment when i heard that a close relative of mine had just passed away. That kind of put me off listening to the song for a while.

Ha! I was hoping/planning to be intimate with a woman while listening to those two songs (and October Rust in general), so its interesting to hear that another metalhead has tried this.
Odd....That was the album I was going to put as well. Me and a group of friends would play pool about 4 days a week at the pool hall in town, and we'd play this album every time we were there. I had a crush on one of the girls we'd hang out with for the longest time. We just connected so well. But she had a boyfriend. The guy treated her like crap, but I did my best to stay out of it, because the guy was one of my best friends. Shitty situation. Well, me and the guy drifted apart as friends, and when they finally broke up, she took a liking to me...it lasted about a month before the guy found out, and we got in a fist fight (the only fight I've ever been with...not including those with my brothers growing up). We didn't seriously injure each other, but we each did a number on one another...I had a HUGE bump on the back of my head.

That's the shortened version of a very long story, but to shorten the shortened version, me and that girl always listened to October Rust, Origins of Misery (by Lamented Souls), as well as a few non metal albums. That was three years ago, and its still a bit hard to listen to those bands.

I had a car crash while listening to Alcest's "Tir Nan Og". Whenever I listen to it nowadays it makes me feel a little uneasy.

Nothing for me really, but my friend had Chemistry by Susperia as the song he woke up in the morning to every day. So, he can't listen to that because it reminds him of the horrible feeling of waking up at 6AM every weekday.

I have a long commute to work via train, so I often use metal as a defense mechanism to drown out screaming children, people with "cell phone voice", and other undesirable co-commuters. The downside seems to be that I get stressed and irritated when I hear my train playlist songs outside of this capacity, because I associate them with a noisy train ride Sad

You need to get yourself some quality noise-canceling headphones. They make all the difference in the world on noisy train rides, drowning out both the people and the sounds of the train itself without having to deafen yourself.

How much a not so expensive pair usually costs? I'm thinking about buying a new mp3, but the last thing I want is to destroy my ears, as I like my metal when I can properly hear it and buses here are noisy too.

Gah, I know, I really should and have been meaning to. I think what has held me back in the short term is the fact that my purse is too tiny to hold them. This is not a good excuse, obviously, when health is concerned. I'll be making the headphone/purse upgrade shortly Smile

This doesn't really happen to me. The only thing close is that I don't feel like listening to whatever I listened to when sick for a few weeks/months afterward, but that is never permanent. I've learned to just not listen to music when ill.

I'm pretty sure these ones are just the updated version of the ones I use. These look a little different but I paid about $50 for mine so it seems to be the same general product (albeit these are on sale and have free shipping):

You can get better ones for more money (duh) but if you're just listening to mp3's I think these should do just fine. They work fine for me, anyway. They fold up decently small considering the size of the earpieces and they're decently loud with good sound quality. They require one AAA battery to use the noise canceling.

I've got a couple more now that I think of them.

Few months back as stupid as it sounds I put wheels on my bed and it reminded me of that time in hospital which I'll get to. Anyway I had the worst fucking sleep and had a nightmare about crashing a car because of these wheels. I told my parents I shouldn't go to work, I feel fucked up and like something is going to happen, well they didn't budge and I drove dad's huge car I hate driving because I didn't have one at the time. I'm driving down a tight street at 5 am like I usually do and Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' comes on the radio and I hate that song so I look down to change it...BANG! I not only wiped out my car but two neighbours cars in the process. I have even more of a hate for that song/band.

About the hospital story now. I was drunk as shit with two friends walking home, wearing my Immortal 'Pure Holocaust' shirt and three huge wog guys king pinned me with a beer bottle and I went into a coma. All the fuckers were caught but one thing, the cops didn't do fucking shit. Not only did the ringleader get 12 months community service, he testified at a later date that it was too much so I had to go to court about it (last week), the whore of a judge let me go with nothing. So now Immortal is pretty hard to listen to.

That's the thing though, it was in my suburb which never really has violence or much crime so it was a real eye opener.

Damn, sounds like an arse of a situation you had there. What happened with the girl?

Ironically, another track from that very album (the song being Die With Me) helped me get over the break-up in time. The comparatively upbeat music mixed with the lyrics was what made me take a nostalgic and reflective view of the situation in time, as opposed to a bitter one Smile

The outro to 'Floods' by Pantera just makes me blubber like a little baby. I don't even really know why, I've no tangible memories associated with it, aside from a general lost-love kinda feeling, and I hate the band, but it is a hugely heartfelt song which really culminates in the outro for me.

"Floods" is a pretty powerful song, at least in the guitar department. You're right, that closing clean bit is gorgeous and sad in the extreme.

I don't know about bad memories, exactly, but Amebix's "Beyond the Sun' struck me so hard the first time I heard it that I actually broke into tears. Something really cathartic about that night and I can't hear the song now without thinking of how I lost it and started bawling in front of my friend. Strange, strange feeling and I can't say anything like that's ever happened to me before. I don't even know what brought it on, exactly...perhaps it felt more like a glimpse into the future than a memory of the past, since I never knew anyone at the time who died so violently as the character in the story the song tells, but I started thinking of losing friends and loved ones and how it can make those who remain into living ghosts.

A jazz guitar piece "The Fourth Way" by Barney Kessell. I played it at a school concert and fucked it up badly due to lack of practice, and I'll always be reminded of that now whenever I hear or play it. It was my favorite piece to play as well, but those last fews years at school were such hell for me and I wish I could erase that period from my life. All of the death metal I listened to during that time brings it rushing back too: all the pain, all the anger, all the humiliation... all the dreams.

Untouched by the Veronica's, and Pokerface by Lady GaGa will always remind me of Iraq. The former because it was played almost every thirty minutes on the only tv channel we got our at our COP, MTV Arabia, and the latter because it was played all the time on freedom radio, the only radio station we had over there. Also, I was listening to Human by The Killers when I was activated as part of the QRF because my buddy's humvee got blown the fuck up.

^That'll probably be my worst nightmare. I had it bad with Lil' Wayne for 4 months straight everyday, but Gaga on your tour sounds like pure insanity.

Amon Amarth - Gods of War Arise
this song is taboo for road trips amongst me and my friends. don't get me wrong, I love that song, but there have been so many car accidents to me and friends while listening to that song. We even put it on once to make sure and got rear ended.

Have you ever considered that perhaps you and your friends are just terrible drivers?

While the songs itself are not attached to any negative memory, it does evoke bad memories to me.Listening Bathory's Hammerheart, aswell Celtic Frost's Winter makes me remeber of everything, everyone that I've ever lost.Don't ruin the songs to me, and actually enhances the atmosphere, but it's mostly unpleasant, as it opens already closed wounds. For that matter, I could say that the entire Monotheist album gives me this reaction.

The same happens to me with Monotheist. Somehow it reminds me of certain person I lost a few years ago, even though said person wouldn't like the album (save for a couple of songs, maybe). Awesome album, anyway.

The only song I stopped listening for a while (three years) was "The Light at the End of the World", by My Dying Bride. It was playing when I was notified about the death of the aforementioned person. Also, an awesome song, and the dead one did like it.

I think it's a bit of both.

I had a tooth out whilst the dentist's radio was playing She Bangs by Ricky Martin.

I can't think of other songs off the top of my head that evoke bad memories. Sure there are but I don't care to try and remember them. There is however, songs that have been ruined because people I found annoying or bitchy or whatever, liked it.

Master of Puppets. I can't listen to that song anymore because I was really into it during a really hectic and depressing time in my life. I automatically associate it with that time in my life. Fucking hell.
