Gonna try and make my somewhat vague request, understandable...

I'm trying to find some new bands, and I've noticed cross-genre bands seem to appeal to me.

Black/Death, Death/Doom

Any bands that you know of that play something like that.

with pounding fast drums, bass keeping pace, and still room for some melodic magic. little rhyme there. (little corny)

Kinda like this,

any recommendations?

Anaal Nathrakh. Though a bit grindy, it's very much black/thrash. Insane fucking drumwork.

Same with Absu, get Tara or their s/t album. Holy FUCK!

Behemoth's newer stuff is a bit more straight forward death metal and not really 'black metal', though you'll surely be smothered in fucking double bass. Inferno is a fucking beast.

Grave Miasma is what you need.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GOs92bYO5w&feature=related

If you like that, also check out Teitanblood. They're like Grave Miasma except with even more ridiculously low guitars, more contrast of slower doomy sections and the faster blasting bits, and insane vocals. The drums on their full length are kind of mixed badly, though (the toms and cymbals sound fine but the snare and bass drums are totally buried in the mix, unfortunately). The rest of the production is perfect, though.

as "melodic" black metal shares an emphasis on melody with power metal it is thus correct to refer to it as "black power metal" which is why "melodic" black metal flies in the face of all NSBM ideals.

I thought Anaal Nathrakh used a drum machine.

For death/doom (or sometimes referred to as funeral doom?) try out Rigor Sardonicous. Has doomy riffwork and tempos but has a very dark death metal feel, though it also has some fast bass with sometimes great fills and rolls and cymbals and such.

You have got to check out Deströyer 666.

I've only hear the album "Cold Steel... For an Iron Age", which is pretty thrashy but has every cool element within death metal and black metal as well.

"Phoenix Rising" should be more in the death metal area, but i haven't heard it yet.

I must say that "Cold Steel..." has become an absolute favorite album of mine. Fucking fast drums and riffs with an uncompromising bass, which actually stands out a lot. All elements of the perfect mix of death, black and thrash.

Check out the whole album, instead of just a few songs on YouTube, you won't be disappointed... I promise.

Smile

Phoenix Rising isn't death metal at all, and is a very good black/thrash album (albeit less aggressive than Cold Steel). Cold Steel is such a good album it isn't funny.

I've seen videos on Youtube with a live drummer so I suppose it's still not impossible to do.
