I am most interested in bands such as: Tristania, Sirenia, The Sins Of Thy Beloved, and Theatre Of Tragedy. Unfortunately, the quality of their music has diminished quite a bit over the years. I am looking for bands of the same ilk, with a fusion of male and female voices. Or if you are in a similar band, send me a PM!

Examples of songs that appeal to me:

Tristania - Beyond The Veil
Sirenia - Meridian
The Sins Of Thy Beloved - Lake Of Sorrow
Theatre Of Tragedy - Cassandra

Thanks,

~Jenna of Pale Secrecy~

Off the top of my head I can recommend two bands from Romania: Kratos and Tiarra.

Also try Myriads, they're from Norway and very underrated.

I would recommend Draconian and Epica as better well known bands, but if you're after more underground music you could try Luna Obscura.

Probably the same place that spawned AIDS and Dani Filth.

Check out early The 3rd and the Mortal, early The Gathering, early Novembers Doom, Avernus (I'm a fan of these band's entire discographies, just the early stuff is more per your request), Urn from Chicago too...

Perhaps you woud like Siebenbürgen, or Trail of Tears, or maybe even both.

Kinda little black metal-oriented, but great stuff, anyway.

So, you've made your way over here, eh? Well, as you know Gothic metal of the same high quality of Widow's Weeds and Aegis is pretty much non-existent. Early Tristania, ToT and Sirenia was in its own class and 'good' Gothic metal disappeared by 2003, which is why I consider Sirenia's "At Sixes And Sevens" to be the last truly good Gothic metal album made.

You may enjoy Whyzdom's new album From The Brink of Infinity which employs the same style, with very good vocals and great production. Also take a look out for Catafalque's "Dialectique" and Todesbonden's "Sleep Now Quiet Forest", two of the best female-fronted metal albums made in the last couple of years.

Yeah I've been there, I was absolutely blown away by the exact same Tristania/Sirenia/Theatre of Tragedy little group, but couldn't find anything of the same quality.
In the end it only made me appreciate Widow's Weeds more though, truly one of the best metal albums ever.

Penumbra's (france) Seclusion comes close to Beyond the Veil/Sixes and Sevens at times (in style and class), though it's more power metal oriented and the vocals annoy me occasionally, you'll still want to check these guys out I think.

Definitely try Draconian, Luna Obscura, How Like a Winter and Estatic Fear. These are mostly gothic doom, but they are still great and all I can think of thats close to your requests. No gothic metal album comes close to At Sixes and Sevens though
