Hello, I'm new here so I hope I've done the thread correctly.

I'm looking for bands that play Symphonic or Gothic (or both) style. I'm looking for a band that plays atmospheric, dreamy and dark music with a wide use of orchestra and choir and with as less grunts/growls as possible although "beauty and beast" style is accepted. The band should sound like Sunterra or Tristania. To understand better what I want, listen to "Sanguine Sky" by Tristania, "Veil of Darkness" by Sunterra, "Swamped" by Lacuna Coil, "Autumn" by Yearning or "Bare Grace misery" by Nightwish. While I understand the bands I've mentioned aren't all Gothic but the songs will give you the idea about what I need. If the band plays instrumental music (i.e. no words) it's even better but there shouldn't be too much dark ambient. Another important part is that the band is better be new, unpopular because bands like Lacrimosa and WT I could find myself. That's pretty much everything and I apologize if the searcher missed similar thread...

P.S. Just in case - NO EVANESCENCE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!

Whyzdom pretty much suits what you're looking for. Symphonic Gothic metal band from France.

Also check out Amberian Dawn. Their first album especially sounds quite Tarja-era Nightwish.

Try Silentium. I think their early material has growls, but there isn't much (or any) of them on their later albums. Try the album Sufferion - Hamartia of Prudence.

Therion should be right up your street, try the Lemuria/Sirius B albums, great work.

Lysander: WHYZDOM is not exactly what I'm looking for but I'll certainly keep them in mind as they are good anyway. And I know and love Amberian Dawn.

Belial: I've heard about this band but never had the mood to listen to them - thanks for the suggestion.

STORMM: Therion is definetly a great band and so their works.

Huge thanks to you all but I need something more melancholic (yet not whiny) and how should I say? Unearthly? Some mix between "Sanguine Sky" and "Autumn". Anyway I'm really thankful for your answer.

Requiem Fortissimo by Virgin Black and anything by Sins of thy Beloved.

If you're already aware of these then try Violent Whispers by Nota Profana. They use grunts as well as sopranos and use a lot of orchestration, but there are a few instrumentals on the album.

Also try Tales of Dark, they're a doomy gothic metal band with female vocals, growls and clean male vocals, and are pretty atmospheric. how Like A Winter are similar and I would recommend them too.

Avrigus 'The Secret Kingdom' is a good recommendation. Beautiful gothic/doom metal with male and female vocals, lots of strings and piano parts and an superb melancholic (but not whiny) vibe.

Try After Forever or Octavia Sperati. The latter is a bit more thrash/doom but still worth checking out. If you're looking for something with more symphonic/orchestral elements then try Angtoria.

They're more gothic doom anyway .I messed up my last post. Try Luna Obscura, gothic metal with beauty and the beast vocals (brilliant female vocals), and try endaemona, they are gothic metal, but they only have male vocals.

Try Canaan. Their first 2 albums sound like what you are looking for.
