I've really been enjoying Wormphlegm's first demo lately and am looking for more of that 'torture doom' style, however, besides that Wormphlegm demo most of this sort of stuff seems to get a lot of bad reviews. Is there any other good stuff that takes that funeral doom sound to torturous levels?

Check Senthil out. They strangle themselves with chains to make their vocals.

There must be more than Wormphlegm and Senthil.

Woods of Belial, probably the first band of the "genre". They play industrial black/doom with those tortured vocals, with a good "horror" atmosphere. Check out the 'Baxabaxaxaxaxabaxaxaxaxa! 666 Yndstr Draconis' demo, it's much better than the album.

Also, check out Funeralium (the first demo probably fits your request more), Black Bile, Dictator, and even Khanate to some extent (the first album). You might also count the Stabat Mater track Give Them Pain in there.

Planet Aids also have a somewhat similar atmosphere.

I'd say Abruptum were the most influential of this style (who themselves took a lot from Swans).

More recent stuff...+1 on Khanate and Funeralium, Trees, Gnaw Their Tongues, Sunn O))) "Black One"

Check out the side-project of one of the Senthil members called Nivathe.

Then there's Vonn of course, taking the genre to new extremes.

Nortt and Xasthur might scratch that itch too.

Lord Mantis from Chicago; they take that tortured-in-a-cavern sound and inject a bit of sludge and grind...it's like Khanate mixed with a bit of Meshuggah's "Nothing" and a bit of Mastodon's "Lifesblood". Not specifically what your OP requests, but something you might still dig.

New "boring" extremes, yeah. It isn't really a good band, and it's exaggerated how it's said to be the "most extreme doom band" or whatever it was.
Still worth checking out I guess, who knows...

You know Senthil, chances are you know Bosque. If you don't, check them out, they are "beautiful" torture doom.

Hanged by Neck and Lacrymae Rerum also fit the bill. Uaral might be a long shot, but the vocals surely are agonizing and tormented. But really, when it comes to this "torture doom" thing, once you've heard Wormphlegm you've basically heard them all.

I cannot imagine a more tasteless combination of styles.

"Cassette tape comes drenched in blood and with a razor blade, as well as a
mini-poster (only included in 20 copies of the tape) drawn by the late Wretch."

Whoa.

Thanks for all of the suggestion so far, definitely got a lot to check out.

Are Doomthrone and Stumm worth looking into?

I'm also gonna check out Archaic (Fra), despite their negative reviews.

DoomThrone should work. Their Cemetery cover is pretty sweet if you ask me.
Stumm on the other hand is in a sludge/drone direction. If you gonna go there then you're moving away from your original request. But I suppose some of the bands in that genre merge with the aesthetics and sounds of "torture doom" on occasion so why not.

Just a quick question. What exactly is torture doom? It certainly sounds interesting.

Listen to Wormphlegm's 'In An Excruciating Way' demo. It's basically a "for lack of a better term" type term for funeral doom that's based around agony and torture, usually sickeningly hypnotic with vocals that shriek as if the vocalist is being tortured or strangled.

heyy hey heyooo. Try Thoreous. They are the fuck horribly unbeknownst, but hell - their crap & reviews at doom-metal.com speak for itself. I for my part dunno why the've remaind almost unnoticed in the all-so-bla-bla-xtreme-sports-scene. They seem to count as hardly listenable and undefinable. For me cult comments such as "the sickest and most extreme voices you'll ever hear from a human being" by Kostas Panagiotou commenting on Bethlehem's "Dictius Te Necare" also fit to bands like this one. And they're diversified and hihgly innovative, attributes that have become fucking rare in the metal "extremes". What the fuck should that mean: Xtreme but boring? No, no, no sweeties..... better take'n'rake my sleeper...

They're a bit faster and not totally what you're looking for, but you should try out Dragged into Sunlight if you haven't already
