The closest band I could think of is Intestine Baalism. Their last 2 albums has the brutal death metal sections with epic melodic solos in between thing going.

The hyperblasting on Mystical Gate and Sorcery, the general epic mood and melodic solos.. yeah.

Then again its been a while since I heard Kataklysm and the only VR I hear these days is Icons of Evil.

Yeah neither of them really sound dechristhanized if you havnt heard I would suggest it.
Hyperblasting-I remember that term they used for kataklysm,not so hyper now with gravity blast and spazzoid fucking drummers of today.When I saw Vital for the Dechristhanized tour the drummer was so fast he looked like he wasn't moving at all if you know what I mean.

They're actually pretty similar. They both have melodic solos in between brutal sections. The riffing is pretty similar. Both albums have at least 1 song that is pure melody. You'd have almost no idea these albums are 5 years apart. The only difference is that the mixing on Banquet in the Darkness varies between songs because of conflicts during the recording process.

The death metal riffs are pretty old-school sounding. A lot of the riffs are very Swedish sounding. They're very similar to Dismember, even with the thick chainsaw guitar tone.

The heaviest album between the two is Ultimate Instinct. Less melodeathy than Banquet.
