I have been reading this forum for a few years but never posted and i am deciding to make this my first one. I am a Melodic Death metal freak, it is my favorite style and i am always looking for new bands to hear. The only way i know how to do this is to write all the melodeath bands i am a fan of and then hopefully you all give me some kick ass recommendations. Melodic Black and Melodeath are so similar sometimes that i typically call them the same. Also most Melodoom i count as melodeath because its sometimes just a slower version of what is ultimately melodic death.

Ablaze my sorrow
the absence
After the Burial (I count them)
amon amarth
amoral
amorphis
arch enemy
arsis
at the gates
Be'lakor
Before the Dawn
Beyond the Embrace
The Black Dahlia Murder (i count them)
callenish circle
a canorous quintet
carcass (some is)
ceremonial oath
children of bodom
cipher system
the crown
Dan Swano
Dark Lunacy
Dark the Suns
Dark Tranquillity
Darkane
Dawn (if Dissection counts then i count Dawn)
Daylight Dies
deadlock (kind of shitty, but i like a few songs)
degradead
Dimension Zero
Disarmonia Mundi
Disinterment
Dispatched
Dissection
The Duskfall
Edge of Sanity
Eluveitie (melodeath/folk except for the newest one)
Epicurean
eternal Lies
Eternal Tears of Sorrow
Eucharist
Fatal Embrace
The fifth sun
fragments of unbecoming
Garden of shadows
Gardenian
Gates of ishtar
God Dethroned
Godgory
Graveworm
The Haunted
Heaven Shall Burn (some hardcore but i still count it)
Hedon Cries (melodeath plus some doom)
Hypocrisy
immortal souls
in flames
in mourning
in thy dreams
insomnium
intestine baalism
into eternity
kalmah
light this city (obviously a little core)
mercenary
miseration
mors principium est
neuraxis
nightrage
nightshade
norther
noumena
omnium gatherum
one man army and the undead quartet
paths of possession
quo vadis
raintime
rapture
sacrilege
satariel
saturnus
scar symmetry
sentenced (only some obviously melodeath)
skyfire
slumber
soilwork
sorrow of tranquillity
stormlord
subliminal fear
suidakra
swallow the sun
this ending
through your silence
torchbearer
tystnaden
unanimated
vehemence
vespers descent
watch me fall
wintersun
witchery
within Y

Those are just the bands that I have music by but I do have a list currently of bands I have listened to that i like that i just dont have yet.

I'm a melodeath fanatic as well. Hails! Just browsing my iTunes, here are some more to check out:

Anterior, Archeon, Blind Stare, Blinded Colony, Blood Stain Child, Codeon, Dawn of Tears, Detonation (Hol), Disarmonia Mundi (Fragments... album), Enter My Silence, Fear My Thoughts (Vulcanus album), Imperanon, Lothlorien, Malefactor (Bra), Misery Speaks, Mygrain, Naildown, Persefone, Searing Meadow, Senate, Soulscar, Unmoored, Withering.

That should keep you busy for a bit. If you want even more, just PM me. Enjoy!

Dark Chamber Litanies by Dawn of Tears.

One of my favourite melodeath albums.

If I'm not mistaken somebody's posted a link to it in the metal-sanctioned downloads thread. I haven't heard any of their other stuff so I dunno if it's as good, but that album owns.

Wow! What a list I am also a huge Melodic Death fan and can honestly say you have named every band I would have said!

EOS666 Would it be possible you could recommend a fellow melodeath lover(Notice the user name, A norther EP) some of what you listed since its such a big list, maybe like 4 or 5 of the best?

My favorites beings
Mors Princpium Est
Norther
At The Gates
Wintersun etc

I enjoy Melodic Death but with out it getting to "Power Metal" And keeping a heavy side!

Also to Recommend you something You may like I've been listening to a lot of Obscura Lately, Kind of Tech-Death But very melodic and enjoyable!
Also Check out Abyssos's First Album "Together We Summon The Dark" Its Melodic Black Metal but very very enjoyable! One of my favorites, Especially if you enjoy Dissection.

Also a couple I didn't see on the list,
Neaera(Melodic Death)
Naildown(Melodic Death)(A couple of them also are in Norther so you know its good!)
Naglfar(Melodic Black)
Imperanon(Melodic Death)
Control Denied(Melodic Death, And Chuck From Death's Other Project)
Catamenia (Melodic Black/Death Best album being ChaosBorn, Great if you enjoy Wintersun!)
Bereavement(Melodic Doom)

Hope you enjoy some of the bands I listed!
Keep it Metal!

Try the band Universum from Australia- great band with a VERY similar sound to Mors Principium Est (in fact, one of MPE's guitarist has a guest solo in a song)

Good to see someone else reppin' Garden of Shadows, they are a very solid, very classy band. Good stuff.

I do have control denied i just never thought of them being a melodeath band but i guess i can see it. Sounds good to me. I saw obscura live and loved it so i will for sure have to get some of there material.

as for some recommendations i can help you because i dont love the more power metaly kind as much. I'm not going to name really well known ones because you already know them im sure (for the record Dark Tranquillity is still my number one band and probably always will be)

1. Be'lakor- The Frail Tide. This band has one album and they are already in my top 3. In my opinion the future (and for me present) of melodeath, the only thing stopping them is that they are from austrailia. If you listen to only one band of mine get this album. My favorite melodic death metal album. Its perfect imo.

2. Gates of Ishtar- A Bloodred Path. This is quickly becoming not only one of my favorite melodeath albums but one of my favorite albums (nothing will touch Edge of Sanitys Crimson for me)

3. In Thy Dreams- Either full length album. Highest Beauty is like At the Gates but on fucking steriods, never slowing down and always staying heavy and melodic. The Gates of Pleasure is more like At the gates Terminal spirit disease album if im going to keep consistent with the at the gates references.

4. Insomnium- All 3 albums are glorious. Incredible band. not super fast but there melodies are wonderful.

5. Garden of Shadows- Actually a band very similar to Be'lakor.

6. In Mourning- Swedish band with only one cd but fucking awesome. kind of a Prog, Melodic, Doom Death metal band, but they are to me a melodic death metal band.

Sorry for all the rambling, i just felt like typing things next to the stuff.

Hope you enjoy and let me know what you think of them!

I have a group on facebook dedicating solely to Melodic Death Metal listeners.

GLOBAL MELODIC DEATH METAL

Amon Amarth, Kalmah and Dark Tranquility tops my list.

But I have respect for the earlier bands like Eucharist, Unanimated, At The Gates, Gates of Ishtar...

Bands in Sweden and Finland are consistently growing and continuing the genre where these bands last left... Unanimated made an impressive comeback this year.

I second the recommendation of Be'lakor, Insomnium and In Mourning.

Notable mentions for Japan's Serpent and Shadow.
Italy's Raintime impressed me alot...
Germany's Burden of Grief is one band that you should check out

It's more bm than dm but you'd probably like the first Sacramentum album if you haven't heard it already. Most smart people do.

I think Dark Tranquillity and At the Gates are pretty much from the same time.

I just came across Brother Von Doom. They have 1 full length called Relentless that's worth a listen.

I finally checked a few bands on my list and fucking loved them both.

Warblade- an american melodic death/black metal band

Enforsaken- an american melodic death metal band that sounds a lot like In Flames from the jester race album.

oh and i did check out dawn of tears and really enjoy it.

I wholeheartedly second Persefone and Obscura (saw them live and kicked ass). Plus, I'm sure that you'll love Selefice. Highly Rotting Christ-influenced MDM that kicks major ass. You may also like Dark Lunacy.

You could try Hilastherion (plenty of solos), Renascent and Bhelliom. For melodic black, you could try Divine Symphony, early Crimson Moonlight, Mordecai and Frosthardr.

Darkest Hour, specifically the last three albums (Hidden Hands/Undoing Ruin/Deliver Us) - Drummer from Disinterment is in this band, as was the lead guitarist for those three albums.

Nothing new or terribly suprising really, love Dark Tranquillity, Insomnium, Garden of Shadows, Quo Vadis, Callenish Circle, and I guess Spilwork too. But Sculptured has to be my absolute favourite band, if only for 'The Spear of the Lily is Aureoled'. Fantastic stuff.

Forgot to mention my friend, there is a damn good french band under the name Avec Tristesse, check out their album Ravishing Beauty, really solid. Also, a group called Imperanon might tickle your fancy, they have some power metal influences, and it makes for a good listening experience.

Scartown. They're a Russian band and probably one of the best Russian groups I've come across. I <3 Scartown.
