I'm looking for some great bands from Mexico. Period. Nothing more, nothing less. I find it weird that I've lived in Mexico for the past 5 years and know very few mexican metal bands. These are the ones I do know:

Rapture, Leprosy, Transmetal, Luzbel, Maligno, Xibalba and El cuervo de Poe. That's about it. Out of those, I really really enjoy Leprosy and Transmetal, and Maligno too. The recs don't have to be along those lines though, but if you DO know bands like that, don't hesitate.

By the way, I'm well aware of Brujería and Asesino, but I consider Brujería an international band, since it has members from Mexico, the USA and the UK. And so does Asesino.

As a side note, I'll take any band from Monterrey, since that's where I live.

Thanks in advance.

Forgot to mention them. And besides, any metal fan should know The Chasm.

This is true. They're really the only Mexican band I'm familiar with, sadly.

I only have a couple of their songs. Their MA pages says they were Deathdoom and then became Death metal, when did it happen exactly, ie, which is their first true death metal album?

don't know if you forgot to mention cenotaph but if you really don't know these guys check them out right know, you might as well want to try some shub niggurath.

as to a band from monterrey, the only one i've heard about is urtikaria Anal, they only have one album out but it has been recommended to me a lot that i'm going to have to try it.

Yeah.....I asked for bands that are from Mexico, not weather they call themselves "mexican metal" or not. And please, at least rec something that you think is worth giving a damn about. Or at least has correct spelling. SHEESH.

By the way, I give you points on being right. The aren't that good.

Toxodeth is, abso-fucking-lutely, my favorite Mexican metal band (alongside the mystical black/doom act Argentum). Toxodeth is what I imagine a slightly less coherent death metal version of Tormentor (of Hungary) would sound like. The first full length has much more of a trad. metal meets death metal sound than Toxodeth's second, death/thrash type album. Both are good, but Toxodeth's first album is the one I would start with.

oh man... well, there's other "popular" bands than the ones you mentioned

Agora: after Luzbel and Transmetal, they are the most popular metal band, they play Progressive metal and have one of the best production works.

Cenotaph: pioneers of mexican death metal, but low quality recordings and they disbanded a while ago giving birth to other bands.

Foeticide: also considered pioneers of mexican death metal because at least one member belonged to Cenotaph, they have more of a melodic death aproach

Anabantha: The main gothic metal band in mexico

Fortaleza: Second (in popularity) gothic metal band in mexico

Fractalia: Gothic Metal, they used to be popular and well known in the gothic scene, I dont know what happened.

Raped God: Death/Thrash icons after Transmetal but they sound tougher

Commando: Leaders of the Mexican southeast Thrash

Disgorge: pretty much an icon of death metal in mexico but I think they're overrated

Sargatanas: almost an underground leyend in the mexican black/death scene.

Paracoccidioidomicosisproctitissarcomucosis, Hacavitz, Septicem, Balam Akab, Evil Poetry, Zamak, Sophya, Maggots: Some of the best death metal bands that Im awared of

EK: Prehispanic sounds and Melodic death metal

Lacrimae: best melodic black metal from the southeast

Evodia: best symphonic black metal band from the southeast

Here comes the kraken: Best deathcore, they also have a very good production and they had their first tour through Europe last year.

Frozen: Best metalcore

Baal: death and melodic death

Sabacthani: Melodic Death Metal, they were just recommended by Unaslayer; I gave them a try and they sound great.

Versus: Power Metal... not sure but I think they had progressive tendencies like Agora.

Wow, I'm loving Here Comes the Kraken dude. I can't believe I finally found a deathcore band I would actually like. Thanks a lot. I'll be sure to check out the other stuff you rec'd.

By the way, people, seriously, listen to Here Comes the Kraken, they prove that a deathcore band can actually be original and interesting :D

yeah, Im not into deathcore but I shared stage with them in February and got quite impressed because of the drumming. Here comes the Kraken are one of the best acts I've ever seen from a Mexican band. If you ever have the chance to see them, go for it.

Also, I typed "Paracoccidioidomicosisproctitissarcomucosis" with other death metal bands but there's also differences between them, the first one plays brutaldeath and pornogore, while Sophya (by example) is more oldschool influenced, then I think Evil Poetry is blackened death; so they are all different.

I'd say from "Procession to the Infraworld" and on, but even that album has it's doomy moments.

Do not sleep on the Mexican dm scene! I've been just randomly ordering any Mexican DM I can find lately (especially from the early 90s) it's like they couldn't miss. There is a certain commitment to a "dark" atmosphere that just shines through and makes this death metal scene very special.

Look into Bloodsoaked, Infinitum Obscure, Necroccultus, Yogth-Sothoth, and Shub Niggurath for a taste of the dark, maddening, Lovecraftian Mexican death scene.

Believe it or not, I had a Toxodeth album among my parent's tape collection. I'll be sure to check out both albums though, thanks for the rec.

I have the rerelease of their Phantasms demo and it's pretty sweet.

You might know them already but Ravager is a pretty good brutal/death metal band, I think they're from Queretaro

Not sure if it's your type of thing, but Sabacthani are a solid MDM band. Sound quite similar to early (Jester Race) In Flames but with more balls. Their singer isn't the best though, but you get used to his voice eventually, and the guitarwork makes up for it.

Cenotaph, Shub Niggurath/Tormentor, Foeticide, Infinitum Obscure, Ancient Gods are all quality death metal. Disgust's "Crucifucked" for deathrash-oriented sound.

Unholier, Bloodsoaked, Noctambulism, Mortuary and Darkness. Gotta have Necroccultus as well for some newer stuff.
