Is being Christian and listening to Satanic Black Metal or just Metal in general a bad thing in the eyes of other metal fans? Because I seem to get ridiculed for it a lot. I've had to bust a few too many heads than I would have liked to because of this. Anyone have any opinions on this?

Does someone have a copy of the 'Rules For Being A Satanic Black Metal Fan' book handy to check this one?

Yes, I do, actually. Let me just get it out of the shelf there real quick and...ah, there it is. Page 214, 'Rules of being a Christian in the Metal world.' It says you should stop caring what other people think and listen to what you like.

My thoughts are that, hey, if you want to mix a little heresy and hypocrisy into your friendship with Jesus, more power to you.

There's nothing quite as New Testament as accepting and even loving something that thumbs its nose, shits on, and despises everything your belief structure stands for.

That said, a real Christian would turn the other cheek, instead of beating the crap out of people for giving you shit over something as inane as being a Christian, and a Metal fan. WWJD broski?

Isn't that what pretty much every page in the book says?

There is not a problem with being a Christian and listening to Metal. The problematic thing would be if you were a preachy Christian and always complained to others about the song lyrics. That yeah, could be a big problem.

Yeah, don't listen to other people. I believe that is a value of the metal culture, to begin with.

Still, I wouldn't fight someone over something so petty. People like that aren't worth the effort. Not that I have the stature to fight, but still.

I know Christians who listen to arguably Satanic metal. Does reading Mein Kampf make you a Nazi?

I don't understand it, and it baffles me, but it doesn't bother me. I'm pretty anti-Christian, but like a small number of Christian bands like Holy Blood.

Sometimes, yes. After reading that, some people do become Nazi's.

Such is propaganda...

We are the soldiers under God's command
We hold His two-edged sword within our hands
We're not ashamed to stand up for what's right
We win without sin, it's not by our might
And we're fighting all the sin
And the good book -- it says we'll win!

Soldiers, Soldiers, under command
Soldiers, Soldiers, fighting the Lords battle plan

Are you a soldier under God's command
Help fight the good fight, join us while you can
The battle that's waiting is fought so easily
Through Him, without sin there is victory
And were fighting all the sin
And the good book -- it says we'll win!

Soldiers, Soldiers, under command
Soldiers, Soldiers, fighting the Lords battle plan

Most of the atheists/satanists I know listen to BFMV. I'm the new age christian type, and I listen to black metal. Go figure.

I would've thought believing in a supernatural being is ridiculous enough in itself. Music is kind of irrelevant here.

To each his own, and so forth.

True. Listening to pagan metal certainly fueled my interest in heathenry and led to changes in my lifestyle and thinking, though I also listen to some Nazi and Satanic bands and don't have any interest in becoming a Nazi or a Satanist.

I guess it depends on how seriously you take it.

Christianity by nature has a powerful propaganda behind it. Any religion that tells you to follow it or spend an eternity in unimaginable torment is going to win a lot of followers and make it difficult to escape from psychologically.

No, most of it is just singing the praises of Venom and other early BM bands.

Don't give a fuck about those things. You want to be a christian and to listen to metal because you like it? So do it.

Just don't do it here. Can't have you beating everybody up in a fit of righteousness, you know. Makes too much mess to clean up.
