Doesn't sound anything like CoF at all but you probably will enjoy later Rotting Christ.

Hecate Enthroned is an obvious answer.

That's the band I was thinking of suggesting too but it escaped me.

I got your point, but actually I don't think there are any solid similarities between the two eras of Cof and Rc. Only Sleep of the Angels I'd say, because of the keyboards use and its melodic style, but still no. But, of course, he gonna enjoy it.

I have RC's Sleep of the Angel and Khronos, which are great albums but I don't find those CD's and Cof's early albums that similar. Are there any other suggestions?

Check out Nightfall from Greece. It's in the veins of old Cof. I hope you like them.

Please, switch that around.
I Shalt Become is the biggest crock of shit I have heard since Striborg.. no. Just no.

Austere, some Alcest, Abyssic Hate [for being DSBM, it's pretty hypnotic on the "Life Is A Pain In The Neck" release], Leviathan has some good stuff... Judas Iscariot at times on the "Thy Dying Light" and "Distant In Solitary Night" is really good. Deathspell and Nachtmystium are great suggestions, but get "Demise" from Nachtmystium.

Says the man recommending Alcest, DsO, and Leviathan. ISB (at least on Wanderings) is hypnotic, sincere, and of high quality. Krallice is an insult to black metal and I really don't feel like reiterating the points in my review. If you wish to continue this, PM me, as I do not want to derail this any further.

They're both gay as hell.

hisownfoot, you should check out Striborg, they really suck, but seem to fall into that hypnotic/ambient black metal kind thing, so you might like them.

Aright, I have a bit of a broad request, certainly not specific enough to warrant its own topic. Im looking for black metal songs that exceed 30 minutes in length. Any style of black is fine (though Im sure that most will turn out to be ambient BM).

Thanks in advance.

Fauna - The Hunt
Vrolok - The Incarnate Form of Black Ecstasy and Rapture, Visual Purgatory
Nocturnal Depression - Hear My Voice...Kill Yourself [from the promo version of Soundtrack to a Suicide, its damn near 30 minutes]
Wyrd - 1

Thats about all I know, sorry. Hope you like those.

Hi, everyone thanks for taking time to give recomendations, but to clarify. I really enjoy DsO, alcest, Judas Iscariot, Leviathan, and especially Nachtmystium. But none of these are what i am looking for, I just do not think i am explaining myself well. I also like Krallice, and i grabbed I Shalt Become on webofpiss's recommendation :). Damn mail takes forever.

But as for exactly what im looking for. (striborg is not it)

I would like it to be.. err fast? but giving the impression of being slow? I sound absurd.

The best example i can give is Walknut's The Midnightforest of the Ruins. And Black Cathedral by Drakestrah.

I dont expect more answers but if you wish to excell, tell me some :).

looking for bands with sounds similar to Sarcofago last release "Crust", Mayhem's "Ordo Ad Chao" or some of the war metal bands like Revenge. Something very raw/brutal but has kinda modern theme. Brutal version of Darkspace without keyboards perhaps? XD

I think I know what you need. First, you definitely need to check out Darkspace. They've got a very atmospheric sound that tends to progress very gradually despite occasionally being played at reasonable, although I wouldn't say really fast, tempo. It's not dissimilar from what I've heard of Walknut. If you like that, you should also look into Paysage d'Hiver, although much of Wintherr's work might be a little rawer than what you're looking for. The self-titled, Kristall & Isa and Einsamkeit might hit the spot, though.

Obviously, you should look into Drudkh. They've got a similarly atmospheric, eastern European sound to Walknut. Not all of their discography quite matches your description, though; I'll bet that Autumn Aurora is just right, though.

A very underground band that you should look into is Aorlhac. I definitely get the impression of slowness from the band despite the fact that they actually play at a decent clip. You'd probably prefer to hear the full-length than the demo; it has better production and is, therefore, more evocative.

I also get the feeling that you'd like Limbonic Art. They've got a pretty symphonic, melodic style similar to Darkestrah, although it's a bit less folky. In Abhorrence Dementia and Moon in the Scorpio are still very evocative while matching your description pretty well. I think you'll enjoy them.

I'll also take this opportunity to shamelessly plug a band from my hometown: Valhom. The band actually plays really fast, but the progressions are gradual and the sound is fairly atmospheric. Some of their discography might be a little too technical for your taste, but I think that you'll like Despair.

Let me know how these recs work out for you and I might have a few more.

I'm looking for more romantic shoegaze-ish black metal in the vein of Alcest, Celestia, Mortifera and Amesoeurs. Any suggestions?

This is a hard one... these bands are unique. Closest I can think of are Hateful Abandon and maybe ColdWorld.

Well, I'm not sure how well this fits, but what about Austere? Lyrinx maybe? How about some Sterbeklang? Being blind to Darkestrah I don't know exactly what you're looking for, but those are somewhat like Walknut. Elysian Blaze, perhaps?

If these don't match up to what you're looking for specifically, but at least you will know more great BM bands :D

Limbonic Art and Darkspace I am aware of and own one of each's albums. And of course Drudkh. But i listened to Aorlhac's myspace and i was raped, and then super happy when i saw they covered ulver. Currently trying to find the cheapest way of getting their album. You were also right about Valhom, i like my music simple :(.

@ Mezentus

Austure, a friend got, the new album (im not sure if its there only). They are exactly what i am looking for, i really like them. Although the vocals are super abrasive and are leaning into silencer territory.

Lyrinx I myspace'd and tehy sounded good, i do not know if i should buy yet.

Sterbeklang i was genuinly suprised with. German one man depressive black metal band as listed in metallum, sounds like it was going to suck. But the myspace was thoroughly entertaining, I cant afford to buy demos, but i will keep and eye out for these guys.

Thanks :)

Look into the Russian Black Metal scene, more specifically the BlazeBirth Hall bands. Projects like Raven Dark and Forest usually play at a decently fast paced but retain a droning quality because of their slowly evolving, unfolding composition.

That and maybe some of Manes' early work.

i think i know just what youre talking about based on that walknut song...midnightforest of the runes is my favorite song on the album- "Suicidal Emotions" by Abyssic Hate and "Reflection of a Bleak Mind" by Blutklinge should be exactly the sound youre looking for.

Hi, i'm searching for black that is agressive, hateful, fast(but not blasty), melancholic, and somewhat epic and melodic.Something like "fast depressive black metal" or maybe the black metal equivalent of Gates of Ishtar.

Any help would be apreciated.Thanks.

How could I have forgotten Blutklinge? :/

Sterbeklang is very good. I have the demo "Alleinsein", and it is quite a listen. Glad you like Austere :D yeah, the vocals are a bit different, well into the Silencer-ish style. I like it however.
I only have one Lyrinx release, but they are good. The Lyrinx/Elysian Blaze split I heard is pretty good. Check that out if you can.

I am looking for BM that, through texture in layers of sound, evokes images of nature, flowing water and wind wisping through vast landscapes and the like. It's difficult to describe, but if you've listened to Velvet Cacoon's Genevieve, you hear that it's 'aquatic' - it flows like water. And if you listen to Paysage D'Hiver, it actually sounds and feels like a freezing tundra. In both examples, the bands sound fuzzy, the musical structure itself is droned out by its own distortion, and the drums are not at all prominent. I guess, in that sense, what I'm looking for has defineable production qualities, but what I'm after thematically is ambient BM with a strong sense of naturalism in its aesthetic.

I feel I haven't given Black metal a proper try and would like to.The closest I've gotten is early In the Sign of Evil and Obsessed by Cruelty Sodom and Viking/black which I enjoy a lot.So I would like some recommendations to get into the genre.I enjoy faster stuff so that is a plus and pretty good production is also a plus.Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Well, if you're digging In the Sign of Evil and Obsessed by Cruelty then I think its probably time for you to take it just a step further and check out some of the other proto-black releases of the 80s. Grab the first 3 Bathory albums and see how you feel about those. You might also want to look into Mayhem's Deathcrush as there was still a lot of thrash/death influence on that EP. I realize these suggestions have fairly poor production quality but it's not that much worse than "In the Sign..." or "Obsessed..." to my ears. For the sake of classics and history you should also familiarize yourself with Hellhammer and early Celtic Frost releases. Once you have come to treasure these morbid, dusty old records, then you might be ready for some full on black metal...

Not as ambient as those two, but you would probably like the Epos album by Darkestrah.

Thanks.I'll try some of Bathory's early stuff and Mayhem's Deathcrush.I have a feeling the production might turn me off a little bit but nonetheless I'll try them.

Well, if speedy proto-black metal is what you want, then I'd suggest you go all out and check out Blasphemy's Fallen Angel Of Doom. The production quality is rather poor, but the music contained within is essentially Sodom's In The Sign Of Evil in it's most extreme and most primitive form. It's a barbaric and punishing listen, so I'm not certain that you would like it. If you do decide to give it a listen, then try listening to at least three times. FAoD generally comes across as a blurr of noise on the first listen.
