Book one makes me think of Lovecraft's stories. The latest is plain cool.

Not too surprising - I have a weakness for Lovecraft in general, and the whole idea of summoning horrors from other dimensions in particular. I have to restrain myself to not make every picture some dude with a book of spells being torn to pieces by some horrific monster with eight heads and twenty-nine tentacles. :D

Ever seen "From Beyond"? It's not too faithful to Lovecraft, but it is an awesome movie in its own right.

I also did a colorized version of that last one:

Wow, that last one is absolutely amazing. Really occult, I must say, and one of the most evocative pictures i've ever seen. You, sir, are a genius.

I like that they're both misters... makes it all seem so gentlemanly. :D

Looks wierd, the face is skeletal and so is the lower part of her body, but her breasts look normal. Also, her left hand looks wierd, the way they're positioned, it doesn't seem right for some reason.

Yup. I don't want to get into explaining intent of everything I draw, but the general idea here is that the woman = death, and she's both human and skeletal (or human with the bones showing through her skin in places). It's supposed to be more symbolic than literal.

I had a hard time with that hand - I ended up drawing it from looking at my own hand in a mirror. So it does match reality, but the position of it is a strange one. She's about to cover the dead man's face. It's a little difficult to get your hand to do that actually, you have to have a somewhat flexible wrist.

Thanks! I'm always trying out slightly different directions - that one is inspired a bit by the old EC horror comics, and some of the anatomical/monstrous work Putrid has been doing for Razorback. Most of my stuff tends to be Lovecraft and occult-inspired, but I also want to do some disgusting, old school nastiness-type work.

Thanks!

I really like some of the new Photoshop work you're putting up too - I wasn't too fond of the composite images I saw before, but your last few seem a lot more unified and dark to my eyes.

Interesting stuff - some of the b&w pieces have a "Voivod-meets-Celtic Frost" vibe to them.

This is the kind of artwork that needs to adorn the cover of an old school death metal album. Classic style. I love it.

Thanks guys - if I can find an old school death metal band to take that one off my hands, I gladly would. I want to draw some more in that vein but I'm trying not to fall into a rut or anything.

Thanks! I mostly use pens and fine-tipped markers (with a rough pencil sketch first). Occasionally I use colored markers or do digital coloring in Gimp, too. And pretty soon I'm looking to branch out into oil painting.

I've only done a couple demo covers so far but yeah, they were just traded for copies of the demo...

Even though your art has this amateur awkwardness about it at times, I'm still really fond of it. I'll keep you in mind when I'll need some art.

Ha ha... thanks, I think? :D Please get in touch, I think I'm improving over time, and I am not totally loaded down with requests just yet.

This is probably going to be a tour flier for the crossover band Creatures:

Wow, that one is awesome. I wouldn't mind having you paint a mural in my bedroom, it'd be sick. Amazing!

I think that's the charm of it. They have this certain uncanny quality to them that I can't really put my finger on. It seems like it'd work well for something like an old school death metal demo.

Thanks, that is actually a huge compliment. Old school death metal demos are pretty much my favorite kind of music. Although pretty soon I hope to start doing some oil painting - maybe I can graduate to old school death metal album-style art at that point. :D

RegularK wrote:

I've done several, most with a definite old school feel. Here are direct links: Fatalist, WAIL 1, WAIL 2, Decaying Citadel, Baleful Benediction Records. If you're interested just PM me - I have a logo questionnaire that gets the ball rolling pretty quickly. I'm pretty much doing logos when people ask, but I'm not putting up a thread specifically for that - I've seen how many requests those "free logo" guys tend to get, and I just don't have that much time, unfortunately. But doing one here and there is fun. It's a good break from doing pictures, which take a lot longer.

Bump in the night. I'd love to post the stuff I've been working on lately, but it's part of a project cloaked in mystery, wrapped in an enigma, and smothered in secret sauce. I am able and pleased to say, however, that I just finished some logos for death metal upstarts Revocate, crazy doom project Decaying Citadel, and distributors of black metal insanity Baleful Benediction Records; and I've also handed the rights to a couple of previously-done pieces ("Wretched Abomination," "Going Home") to bands for use on their demos. So things are moving along!
