I recently checked out Agathocles here on the archives and I noticed they have a fucking long list of releases. They even have more than Nunslaugher, which got me thinking.
I'm pretty sure Senmuth has the longest list of full-lengths, but if we count everything from demos to compilations to anniversary boxes, which band has the longest discography? Keep the limit to bands that are on the archives.

Also, it would be interesting to know who released the biggest number of albums, on a record label, in a year. As far as I've seen - Boris, 6 albums in 2006.

Do you mean the number of new albums by a label itself, by a band, or by a band on a single record label? There are more bands who do tons of releases yearly.


what I find interesting is there are specific bands who keep coming out with releases even couple weeks. The statistics on the MA page is starting to split between bands who have been around as long as most people on this forum's parents like Motorhead and Deep Purple, but then there's all sorts of bands like Unholy Grave, Sabbat, and Agathocles who churn out new splits and 7'' and live albums all the time, and a few black metal bedroom projects like Zarach 'baal' tharagh who see a need to release everything they record. It'll be interesting how many releases come out from such projects and bands until they finally call it quits. Either way, they've drawn out collectors. The gotta catch em all mentality comes out for bands like this. I know i've before considered trying to find all the material on these bands just to hear it.

Coming from a guy who records black metal material and also happens to be in a full time band that gets together and practices 2-4 times a week, it's really amazing how much these bands can release. All together with both of those combined i've come up with only 20 songs in the past year. Though I guess that's more than enough material for a few splits, and a 7'' or two a year if i were to release it in such way. I don't know how they do it, though Unholy Grave, Sabbat, and Nunslaughter all kick ass

By the way I did not know Deep Purple even was on the archives. I'm not that familiar with the band, although I thought they were too much "rock" and not "metal" to be on the archives. They must be the oldest band then? Apparently they formed one year before Black Sabbath.

I think The Scorpions are the oldest band on the site having been formed in '65.

well, almost anything from Venom between ''Black Metal'' and ''Resurrection'' are the same album with different cover art and name.... I mean the songs are the same everywhere! so i'm not sure they're really 72 LOL

That's what happens when you have no control over your back catalog. Look at home many of those "best of" releases have the same or similar song lists.

Nah, Zaraach releases 'em much quicker, and anyways, Senmuth is not even in the top 10.

The difference is that Zarach is the only artist on here dicking around at that kind of speed. Senmuth releases material at a steady rate, about 10 albums a year. Within a few more years he'll easily surpass the bands up there other than Zarach. He seems to be releasing more albums each year too, though the trend might stop this year.

That, and though it's unrelated, Senmuth's stuff is worth listening to.

You have to give him credit for really trying and trying to make music i like the way on his myspace its like since 1983 or something and his never been signed and he just never gives up.

Well some bands can be very productive. If a band can get together, come up with plenty of songs, and just write and write, it's possible. Though Zarach is an exception. I've heard of a few decent ZBT demos, but given there's around 80 of them at this point, you really have to dig through and it's probably not worth the time.
