See: no trickery. Made of a single block of wood with a saw, nothing else. The damn thing was covered if fresh snow, we're getting some all the time now.

:O Napero, you have the skill.

However, great job. Is that made by one piece of wood (a bit confused from the shape)?

We're having '80s night at the bar soon. The last time we had this all the girls dressed like Cyndi Lauper and the guys poofed up their hair and wore eyeliner and lipstick, so I finally dug out my old denim vest and leather jacket, and since my bro got a new camera phone....

Circa '86/'87 (the pics are a little blurry for some reason, but...)

Circa '88.

Those look drawn/colored on or whatever. Whoever did those has serious talent

The top denim jacket is what mine will look like except with woven on patches. I'm eagerly anticipating them in the mail right now. :metal:

He's likely never worn the BDU. We use ABUs now, but they aren't mandatory. I'm holding out on getting them since I can retire next year. At any rate, they are MUCH heavier than the BDUs but they are a lot more functional. More pockets and they are supposed to be "wash and wear". The boots don't get polished because they aren't leather. Overall, I think it's a better uniform, but I'm stuck in my ways and too close to retirement to change.

Lord Howe Island is situated off the east coast of Australia in the Pacific Ocean and is pretty much in line with Coffs Harbour, if you know where that is. The island is only about 8kms long and 2km's wide and there is just one big main road which branches out into a few little streets. I only saw about 5 cars on the road when I was there because everyone on the island gets around by bike. It gets pretty windy though seeing as it's in the middle of the ocean, but other than that, it is pretty awesome.

Yeah I've never worn the BDU, so take og's word for it. The ACU though I'm not a big fan of because the pockets get VERY annoying when in wearing gear. Also, when you sweat too much the thing becomes discolored. By this I mean that while in basic training, they issued me four ACU sets, of which 2 of them are now yellow and green, not white and green. This is because I extensively used them. They are also rather flimsy, so many soldiers are trying to trade them in because of tears and such, but what clothing doesn't do that.

Also the pen holders are useless.

The boots? My summer boots I would love if they weren't so discolored as well. They are dead brown and have not really been taken care of much. They still fit like a charm. They gave us winter boots too but I hate those backstabbing motherfuckers.

Gutterscream, what did you use to beautify that vest? I have an old beat-up vest lying around that I want to spruce up without spending tons of money on patches. Tell me your secrets!

It's also abundantly clear that it is time for me to move to Australia for good. Winters don't get too cold down there, right?

Well, seeing that it costs 2d6 SAN, and we have plenty of browsers in this thread, it's not really cost-effective.

But, should that happen, I'll post my mug right after Nightgaunt shows his. Promised. :D

Awesome, Gutterscream. Takes me back to the 80s.

Not in comparison to other parts of the world. I live in Melbourne, which is supposedly the coldest city in Australia (I'm not including Tasmania here, because they're not a real part of Australia :P), and in winter the max daily temparature rarely goes under even 10C, usually hanging around 15C.

Although that wave does look amazing, the water was about 1ft deep. After you take off you only have about 5 seconds before you get slammed into the rock shelf. No one was surfing that spot however, further down the beach there is a good wave. There are only 3 beaches to choose from on the islands east side, however on the west side there is about a million reef breaks. You need a boat to get out to them because it is a fair distance.

Where abouts are those waves you posted a few pages back?

One pic (with the rock groyne etc) was at City beach in the middle of Perth (always small, but is hollow and fun) and the ones with the really clear, blue water was at Yallingup- the break is called "rabbits". The whole yallingup-margarets section of WA is one of the best places for waves in the world, imo.

I just checked out a spot called 'Rabbit Hill' on wannasurf and it looked pretty fucking heavy. I'm not sure if it is the same wave you're talking about but the pictures I'm looking at are all huge shore-breaks. Looks fun for body-boarding though.

Nice Trompe-l'œil :) It took me some time before noticing the trick.

It's a bit tricky thing to photograph so that it's easy to see.

EDIT: NO! Damn! It's not a trick, it's a real thing. No illusions there. Damn, I'll go out and take a better picture.

I should always, always google difficult words before saying anything... :annoyed:

I also misused the word a bit. It's not about 3-D or 2-D, I was using it just as optical illusion/trickery. Why come there is some discontinuity in the matter? Are these pieces mobile or not one from each other?

Well, those pics are on the shorebreak to the left (looking from the beach) of rabbits. You wouldn't really want to surf there, it just closes out.

Rabbits is more of a bodyboarding wave (I definitely prefer bbing there to surfing it) but if you can do an airdrop and don't mind getting raped by the occaisonal dumping then you can surf it easily enough.

I am definitely not a fan of surfing closeouts, especially massive ones 5 metres away from the shore. I'm too scared that my board will smack me in the face or i'll get a huge fin chop. That photo you took of the wave at 'City beach' looked really fun though for surfing.
