It sounds pretty crappy to me. Not really surprising, though.

I think popular lore held that it was going to sound like Meshuggah crossed with Dillinger Escape Plan crossed with Devourment or something.

Yeah, I'll readily admit it's not that bad, but it's boring, feels like going through the motions.

initially i hated that production, too modern. Pestilence sounds better with a more analog sound but i am getting used to it already.

his vocals are deeper, thats noticeable, makes the fellow from Severe Torture sound even MORE like him now hahahahaa!!!!

i still question Mameli's motives (rightfully so) but these riffs sure do a good job of shutting me the hell up...
good song

Simplistic structure, boring riffs, modern production

You are both entitled to your opinions, as you should be but I think its 1 thing to dislike it but another to say its a bad song.

Certainly. It is also one thing to say that you like it, and another to say that it is good.

I wasn't overreacting. Song structure was as straight forward as possible. No surprises with about 4 different riffs and the riffs aren't even of quality.

It really is extremely under-ambitious. For experienced songwriters like Pestilence, I doubt it took any real effort. Even if the rest of the album is better (and it will have to be much better than this in order to stand above the pile of mediocrity on the market; also, it has to be of a quite, if not radically, different nature), this song is going to be a filler. And I somehow doubt that they would have released a song entirely unrepresentative of the album as the first song.

Well the actual release of the album isnt until March? I doubt they would let the cat out of the bag this early. Especialy with this album being 15 years late.

It doesn't sound good to me. I'm no longer interested in this new record. BRING BACK VAN DRUNEN. The first 2 records were the best.

It's like the link somehow led them to a new Deicide song or something

Yeah, that was a bit pedestrian. Not at all of the standard you'd expect from a band like pestilence. To start with the production really rubbed me the wrong way; I don't mind modern productions on a lot of albums, this song just had all the shit parts of a modern production (dry, sterile, etc) without giving any semblance of power to the instruments. Plus, as if have a bassist like Tony Choy and then drown him out. Bah.

Secondly, I really hated that annoying "shouty" bit of "I want to be dead" at about the 2:35 mark. Don't ask me why, it just doesn't work.

The riffs, as stated earlier are weak and have no pull or catchiness in them at all. The drumming was also about as interesting as watching paint dry.

The solo and vocals were merely ok in the sense that they functioned without really excelling.

I just find it really amusing that it sounds pretty much just like what Mameli said it would, while everybody was trying to read between the lines and predict some sort of abomination.

Main riff of the song is ace; I'll give no quarter to complaints about it

I'll admit, I did expect worse. Especially after hearing C-187.

Well, I think I can safely say that that is a fine example of modern, toothless death metal muzak.

I'm sorry Patrick, but my tastes are too discriminating for me to enjoy something as vanilla as that.

Awesome, take the most boring riffs rejected from TotA and repeat them over and over in a song that has no dynamics or even tempo changes. It may be Pestilence, but it's not the Pestilence that made Consuming Impulse. I have a feeling all of the old death metal dinosaurs will disappoint greatly this year, with Morbid Angel seemingly returning to a later Vincent-era sound and Suffocation consistently making unremarkable albums since their reunion. Deicide is apparently shooting for a summer '09 release, but they are really a joke with no punchline at this point.

Fuck, if the whole album is like this, it'll be nearly as bad as the new Obituary.

It's decent at best, and repeated so much it becomes irritating (assuming you're talking about the one that opens the song).

This is exceedingly mediocre; it's lacking in the riff department, the solo can kindly fuck right off and it's just so bloody average I don't care. The main riff is kind of fun but it reappears far too often for it's own good.

Now, either this is one of the more straight forward 'let off some steam' kind of tracks from the album or this is one of the better, if not best tracks from it. Past experience says it's probably the latter unfortunately.
