After Death (US) deals with Egyptian mythology to quite a large extent. http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=10598

Perhaps Daemonia Nymphe, but they aren't really metal.

Thats the band I was thinking off when I read the post, think Brownings work with Nocturnus is far better than the After Death material though.

You could try The Sword. Lots of their lyrics are intelligible, and are based off of Norse mythology.

I'll throw out a couple obvious ones that you might have missed:

Symphony X: Most of their albums are derived from Greek mythology. Personal favorites are The Odyssey, Twilight in Olympus, and The Divine Wings of Tragedy. Their vocals are easily heard, and intelligent. However, prog metal might not be your thing.

Fireaxe: A solo project that's totally free to download. Specifically, you'd want Food for the Gods. It's primarily thrash with some traces of power metal, but it's four hours long, and details a lot about religion in general.

Therion: Perhaps not mythology in the typical sense, but Therion's lyrics primarily feature the occult or other esoteric themes. Unfortunately, they'll probably not be what you're looking for, as they're very symphonic styled. Albums of interest include Sirius B, Gothic Kabbalah, and Secret of the Runes.

Hopefully these help. I tried to stay away from the typical black metal folk bands, such as Agalloch, Windir, Negură Bunget, Moonsorrow, etc. Also, the above have very intelligible vocals.

MANILLA ROAD. All of their classic, epic metal albums deal with mythology.

Noo, get Lovecraftian Nightmares; it won't intimidate you like FFTG does. That is to say, it is only about 80 minutes long. :D

Melechesh: Black/death metal band from Israel originally with middle eastern melodies and topics about Sumerian/Mesopotamian mythology.

Orphaned Land: Progressive metal band with lots of other metal influences from Israel. In particular, look into the album Mabool which is about Gilgamesh.

Mictlantecuhtli: Black/thrash metal band from California who deal with Aztec mythology. I just discovered them recently and really enjoy them. They sound sort of like a thrashy Dissection.

Psh, who wouldn't embrace a four hour album with open arms?!

However, Lovecraftian Nightmares is for sure worth checking out too.

Therion. Pretty much all of Amorphis' albums are based on Finnish legends.

Try Greek black metal band Kawir. In fact, the whole Greek bm scene is actually the only one to compete with Norwegian, you'll find the sound in the early Rotting Christ and Varathron, but if you want good albums / bands with mythology, I suggest Kawir - Ophiolatreia.

Or check out at least To Pallas track.

Christianity itself is not mythical; Christian mythology is.

yeah, it's ironic, they are so pretentious, yet one can say that at least they don't pretend. They don't release some techno-rap-whatever album and say "on this record we tried to sound like in our old days"
