I'd go a folk route:

Finntroll
Korpiklaani
Turisas
Ensiferum

This would be the ideal Paganfest lineup, if Korpiklaani would just come to the USA...as for Turisas, I just got back from seeing them live and can safely say they have me sold.

Metallica
Slayer
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Black Sabbath (Ozzy lineup)

That would be my godly dream metal show lineup. Honestly if those bands toured together the world would probably implode.

I would like to go back to 1979 to see this...

Black Sabbath (90 min)
Led Zeppelin (75 min)
Judas Priest (60 min)
AC/DC (45 min)
Motorhead (30 min)

I'd like that route quite a bit with the addition of Equilibrium.

My dream list would be as follows:

Carcass
Emperor
Apocalyptica
Benighted
Dimmu Borgir (Don't kill me)
Arch Enemy

Ou, I cant imagine Darkthrone playing live. I think that their music is really not destined to be played live. Actually I read some articles about their early rare shows and that sucks to the core.

Nocturno Culto sounds really good live, I seen videos of him performing live at Wacken with Satyricon playing instrumental and his voice is still amazing.
Fenriz would bitch and refuse to play live though.

That's probably the worst list of bands I've ever seen on these forums.

Wow, my first quote-trail. :D
Anyway:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcD_FGvsj08
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U54tMknX ... re=related
Granted, I'm sure a lot of people were there because they were at Wacken already, but still. Anyway, I was going to add Moonsorrow to the list until I found out they were already playing at Paganfest 2 in the US this year. :hyper:

Here's a non-folk list:
Arcturus
Blind Guardian
Bal-Sagoth
Therion

Probably a bit less likely to happen than the first one, though

Queen-They became my favorite band in 1980 at the age of 9,so when they toured the USA for what was to be the final time in 1982,I was much too young to attend concerts.
Yes-My second favorite band and I am kicking myself for never seeing them.Of course,it would be with Jon Anderson on vocals and NOT this nobody they're currently using
Frank Zappa-the lineup from the winter 1974 tour(George Duke,Nappy,Ruth etc)
4th??I guess Parliament,as long as Bernie Worrel and Bootsy Collins were there.

Opening would be Origin, just because I'd fucking love to see them live, I imagine they'd put on an absolutely amazing and intense live show.

Third would be Type O Negative.

Second would be Shape of Despair.

Headlining would be Abyssic Hate with the following live line up:

Shane - Vocals, Guitar
Me - Guitar (omg fanboy alert)
Stephen O'Malley - Bass
Luke Faz (Virgin Black) - Drums

Now THAT'S a line-up I'd like to happen.

The Absence

You have to start a show off right, and these guys would do it. Speed, riffage, melody, and great solo's. This would get a rise out of the audience for...something entirely different.

Kypck

Can't get enough of them lately and it would contrast so well with The Absence. After a nice aggressive yet melodic death set, you get the brooding yet chilling wind swept plains of Russia roaring through you. Long, slow, enormous atmosphere, keeping with the huge atmosphere...

Cynic

You go from a depressingly epic doom filled atmosphere to a spacey surreal sound inviting you to fall into it's ethereal qualities. From huge bass end you goto a completely contrasting high end focus yet still holding firm to building beautiful landscapes of atmosphere. Where on earth would you go from here?

Iron Maiden

You got wound up. You got pummeled down. Lifted up. Now you sit atop the mountain and look what you've created. Back to the riff inspired insanity of the opening act you get the god's themselves. Think Somewhere Back In Time tour setlist, but mixing in some of the best of Brave New World and A Matter Of Life And Death to keep with some of the more progressive elements the show has.

It has melody. It has atmosphere. Some of my favorite riffs ever.

Or, my "I'm A -Core Whore" concert.

From A Second Story Window
All Shall Perish
Machinemade God
Parkway Drive
The Warriors

Starts with some straight-up hardcore. Parkway gives you a little hardcore with a metallic edge with some stellar breakdowns. Jump to the KsE influenced Machinemade God for some fast angsty songs off The Infinity Complex and some mellower stuff off of Masks. All Shall Perish sets the atmosphere up for the final act with some great fret work and beautiful tapestries of atmosphere. We end it with the high string tension and atmosphere filled insanity of FASSW.

Headliner - Death. I would travel anywhere and pay whatever I could afford to see this band. I can only imagine how much Spirit Crusher, The Philosopher, Symbolic, and Zombie Ritual would slay live.

Cynic would be direct support, obviously. I'm going to see 'em for real in a month or so, too, which is something I always thought had the same 0% likeliness of happening as going to a Death concert.

Anata would play next, followed by Immolation. I might've placed Immolation higher in the bill if I'd not already seen them on numerous occasions.

They wouldn't fit on this sort of bill, but my jonesing to see Pain of Salvation is only slightly less than my jonesing to see Death.

First up would be (The Lord Weird) Slough Feg, they can play whatever they want since all their material is good.

Following would be Iced Earth, playing most of their classics, no ballads, and closing their setlist with Dante's Inferno. Then Set Abominae would come on stage to eat Schaffer's head.

Amon Amarth would be next.

And headlining would be Megadeth , Rust in Peace era, playing most of their discography up to that point, then a Dave would come from the future in a motorcycle, kick present Dave in the head knocking him out, he plays a couple of songs(Kick the Chair, Symphony of Destruction, etc.), then present Dave wakes and kills future Dave an end the show with "My Last Words".

More posts like DerekBurh's and fewer 5-line lists, please. There's got to be some kind of content to justify this topic, which we have every couple of months.

Hmm, tough one. I actually think I'd go backwards chronologically (in terms of when the bands started).

I'd start out with Overkill. One of my favourite bands, and judging by their live albums they put on one hell of a show. High energy thrash to get everyone worked up. Crazy headbanging ensues.

Then I'd have Iron Maiden. I know lots of people think they have such massive epic shows that they should finish the concert but whatever. Anyway epic classic heavy metal, everyone raising their fists to the sky, singing along. Preferably playing stuff from Piece of mind through Seventh Son

Then twould be time for Judas Priest. I can imagine everyone in the crowd turning into one big goosebump. They blaze through their classic stuff, focusing on the 70s, culminating their set with Tyrant. KK and Glenn shred like the god they are, Halford shrieking like a possessed demon, his range the best it's ever been.

The band that started it all would then finish it all.
Black Sabbath.
They play their classic stuff from they Ozzy and the Dio eras, with both the singers taking the stage - not at the same time though. I'm not quite which song they would close with... hmm, probably Black Sabbath.

that's my dream concert. there are a ton of thrash bands I would like to see live, guess I'd have to wait for Dream Concert II :D

I thought the Judas Priest/Testament/Motorhead/Heaven and Hell bill was pretty fucking awesome...a dream bill!!!!!!!!

But my other dream bill would be;
JUDAS PRIEST
MANOWAR
VIRGIN STEELE
ARCH ENEMY

or atleast NEVERMORE if ARCH ENEMY fail to make it!

Bathory
Death
Morbid Angel
Mercyful Fate

or

Savatage
Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Dream Theater
(that would be a looooong concert)

or

Megadeth
Morbid Saint (finally listened to some ;))
Vader

Yeah, its a shame! King Diamond are/is amazing. I also heard that Mercyful Fate are eventually going to start writing new material or something which would be great if they made something as good as Don't Break the Oath (even though it would be near impossible haha!).

Yeah I'm sure it'd still be good. They haven't released anything really "bad" yet really. Even their last album "9" (I think that was it?) wasn't bad.

I'd have to go with Metallica headlining, and supporting acts Bloodbath, Equilibrium, and The Sword. Those are my four favorite bands ATM. I already saw The Sword and Metallica play together, and it was the best night of my life. I doubt Bloodbath will ever leave Europe though, although I have high hopes for them as they are getting bigger and more serious. As for Equilibrium, I'm not sure if they leave Europe or not, I'll have to check up on that.

Grave Digger
Primordial
Symphony X
Virgin Steele

Grave Digger opens up playing material from Excalibur, Knights of the Cross, and Tunes of War to prime the crowd.

Then Primordial comes on and rips everyone's balls off with To the Nameless Dead.

Next Symphony X comes on and plays all of The Damnation Game and The Divine Wings of Tragedy

Lastly, Virgin Steele comes on and melts us all with both acts of The House of Atreus and closing with Visions of Eden.

Fucking long ass concert. I'd pay a shit ton to see it though.

either manowar for a 48 hour set, iron maiden 4 times one after another, or metallica with dave mustaine in the present-day playing Kill em All and Ride the Lightning albums in entirety, even Master of Puppets. Kirk can sit out for a day.

but really, i can't begin to choose things like this without having opinions change one after another as to what i would really want to see the most. so much to choose from and so many genres. had to make it ridiculous. ;)

there's also the classic mayhem with varg in the lineup nobody mentioned. or burzum alone even. or maybe a reunited Guns N' Roses.

That's hard to choose only 4 bands. Buttttt it would have to be Bathory, Equilibrium, Ensiferum, and Elvenking. I'll be seeing a great number of amazing bands soon. So can't really put them on the list of bands i would go to see.
To see Bathory...i would pay a fuck ton of money considering it'll never happen. =/

Ultimately, a great lineup would consist of both Paganfest tours combined into one, with the addition of Equilibrium and Finntroll.

Lineup would go something like:

Ensiferum
Tyr
Turisas
Equilibrium
Finntroll
Moonsorrow
Korpiklaani
Primordial
Eluveitie
Blackguard (Profugus Mortis)
Swashbuckle

Sadly that'll never happen. Would be great though.

Dude, did you read the thread title properly? I'm pretty sure it said something along the lines of "best live line ups".
