Victoriae & Triumphi Dominus by Turisas is a very epic and beautiful song.
It leads into As Torches Rise very well.

Not familiar with the Paradise Lost one but that Carcass one is a song, not a intro track at all. We're talking about intro's that serve as that purpose, not songs that are good #1 tracks.

Agreed. its a great intro. it brings perfectly to mind the kind of festering crypts they sing about. The organ is cool also. i wish more metal used organs.

Well there's "Shivering Voice of the Ghost" by Gehenna, which is applicable to this thread as well as your request. It has a truly chilling organ section to go with the dark, Gothic feel of the song. The rest of the album is very good, but cant quite compare to the brilliance of that opening track. Hell, nothing I've ever heard since can really compare.

The Introduction to Nargaroth's "Herbstleyd" frightens me somewhat.

Damn, that's an interesting one. That chant (the female one) was a really strange choice to begin a black metal album.

It is a fairly cool intro though. Not the greatest ever but I do think it suits the album. Although now every time I hear a crow caw by itself I think of that album, without fail.

Pitbulls In The Nursery - "Lente Agony" is a very cool industrial intro that leads straight into the next death metal track. It has some animal sounds in the background and the whole thing has a tribal edge to it which definitely lifts it to greatness. I love that track.

Wormfood - "French Lesson" contains what sounds like video game beeps at the very beginning, before a, er, "French lesson", begins. ;) Then it has some drunk guy retching and shouting in French. Sounds humourous to me, which is nice because the whole album is weirdness extreme. An excellent beginning.

Behold... The Arctopus - "Skullgrid" is a one-minute intro track of guitar noodling, however it is done so well that I consider it one of my favourite tracks on the whole album! It's too bad they didn't create a whole 4-minute song with that as the centrepiece.

Scrambled Defuncts - "Subterranean Slaughterhouse" deserves a mention, even though the 2-minute intro is connected to the actual track. It's really good and contains a haunting backdrop to the guy talking. The outro to that song is disturbing, though....

None others spring to my exhausted mind right now.

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath \o/

Way to pass over into the new era with just one simple track, the most doomy song ever recorded.

I'm talking about those either 30 second tid-bits that sound completely different from the actual music on the CD, or maybe they're a spoken word intro that then leads to track #2 which is a song. They're always track #1 on a CD and are not an actual song on the CD.

The rain is still damn moody, and a great way to set the atmosphere for what is to come. Your point?

good idea for a thread. i usually end up getting sick of the opening track, so put the album on random or skip to the latter half. infact thats not a problem really anymore coz i have so many albums i dont get a chance to get sick of anything. often bands tend to put a single at the start of an album, which are also the songs i tire of quickest. even so, theres some great openers out there.
