I hope some of the lesser known heavy metal bands like Slauter Xstroyes and Winters Bane do well in this survey.

Yeah, but they are more on the power metal side. We already had a power metal survey which ended in a disaster.

It's USPM, which is doesn't really characterize the sound of most power metal bands these days that seem to be more Euro power influenced.

It would've been pretty good if fucking Nightfall in Middle Earth didn't make the number 1 spot.

Both the Death Metal and Power Metal surveys were disasters IMO.

Yes, but you thought United Abominations was the second coming of Rust in Peace, so your opinion is not valid.

i thought the death metal one was pretty spot on? I mean given that DM really is such a varied genre it was inevitable that there was going to be some 'obvious' results in the top 10 to give it at least some cohesion. what did you think was wrong with it?

MegaHassan, you're gay.

The death metal one had most/all the "essential" albums if ever there were any.

There were some albums that should have been higher and some that shouldn't have been high.

Actually, I think the death metal list was the best one we did.

If it's okay with all I'm thinking of letting the survey run for an extra two days to capture weekend traffic. It will close Monday afternoon Australian EST.

Okey dokey?

Has the turnout been good? I mean in number of votes.

I made my vote, which wasn't really that hard. Old school Heavy Metal is behind only Thrash as far as how much music I've heard.

I went and looked at the results. It was decent at best. Overall it had a ton of great bands/albums but for most of the top 50 or so it was just a pretty generic list just about anyone could come up with. Plus, Cryptopsy's None So Vile the second best death album? Psh.

Yeah, I thought of adding some more underground bands, but in a survey like this there are just too many classics that deserve a spot more. I ended up giving Wolf and Crystal Viper votes, but that was about it.

There were like four Rhapsody albums before Jag Panzer was even mentioned.

I didn't say it was great. I just think little of most the lists we did. I have discovered some good albums off those lists though... so they have a use.

I almost put Wolf and Crystal Viper on there, but I managed to fill it up with a lot of the mammoths from the 70s and 80s.

I don't understand your objection at all. Generally the very best albums in any genre are going to mostly be universally-loved classics, and the list is going to ALWAYS be "a pretty generic list just about anyone could come up with." And if it's not - if it veers far away from that and gets all adventuresome, with lots of unexpected and obscure inclusions - people are going to complain (rightly so) that classics X, Y, and Z shouldn't have been left off in favor of these obscure albums. You just end up with a different thing to gripe about.

And about the Cryptopsy album - that's why they're called opinions. I wouldn't put it at #2 myself but I think it's got to be included somewhere, and as it happens, most people like it even more than I do. That's how it goes.

Same here. I hope my vote is counted, but oh well if it isn't.
I really regretted not voting in the folk metal survey, so I figured that I would not make that mistake again.

All votes are counted regardless of content. As lastdodobird stated, 'the cream will rise to the top'.

The response has been steady to date.

Thanks for delaying the submission date, because finals would have prevented me from making one. Making this list was really tough. :(

What, everbody sending a list is supposed to come here and post "Whohooo I sent a list now lol"?

Isn't that kind of unnecessary?

I sent a list the first day btw.

I couldn't include speed metal on my list. There are just way too many great heavy metal albums out there. I did notice the terrible lack of classic speed metal albums in my collection, though.

Sent in my vote. My list consist of 10 different bands, from the Heavy Metal, Speed Metal, and NWOBHM genres.

Compare the amount of replies to previous surveys. The big ones anyway, nobody cares about grindcore or folk.

Either the list will be owned by the most classic bands, or King Diamond will own them all! That's my dibs.

It would be great if you could make prog metal survey after this. Lack of votes could be problem though.

Trying to figure out when this survey ends. If my calculations are correct... It is about 10:45AM Australian EST at the moment.

Everything is turned upside down in Australia, so monday is sunday, and afternoon is morning etc.

I'm excited to see the results of this one. I have a slight idea of how it must feel for some people on November 4th.
