Pantera isn't rap metal/nu-metal. It's more along the line of groove metal.

Mordred is probably a better example.

Fear Factory went rap? Now this thread would not be compete without 'rage against the machine.'

But this begs the question: Why do you ask? Working on a master's thesis? Need something harder than hip-hop?

That's very sig worthy if you ask me. I may even save it for when the DeathSShead1488 joke gets old, which I presume will be soon.

I don't think Fear Factory could ever be considered nu-metal or rap metal, save for maybe the occasional, minimal turntable sound, like in "Edgecrusher" for example. Don't know much about their albums after that, I bought Archetype and felt it lackluster at best. I still enjoy Demanufacture and Obsolete, I think they're both well-rounded albums. I saw FF live once, they played with Decapitated, Hypocrisy, and Suffocation. Killer show, and FF held their own with those heavyweights.

The thing that confuses me about this thread is the title. What makes him wonder about rap metal?

Yes, there is. Its mostly a fusion of gangsta rap and groove metal, and some thrash metal and funk influences are there too. Rap metal is close to nu metal (hence the confusion). I myself believe that rap metal is a valid form of metal. Of course, that is just me, and has nothing to do with your question.

Well I suppose Fear Factory isn't the greatest example but I've heard songs where the singer is rapping. Not necessarily nu metal by the hip hop influence I guess either.
