I've always been a fan of guitars that use Korina wood
for their bodies. For me, the Epiphone/Gibson Flying V's
and Explorers are, and have always been, the apex of
Metal guitar tone. It's that unmistakable midrange growl,
the way it naturally rolls off the highs, thereby avoiding
ice-pick treble notes, while managing to keep the bass
tight and mud-free, that makes Korina PERFECT for high-
gain guitar playing. I want to see people's Korina guitars!

I've had Flying V's and Explorers in the past, but I don't currently own either. I do have this one though. It's a Les Paul '59 reissue with a Korina body & neck and a quilt Maple top. It's sounds absolutely killer. Just has this snarl that's downright fucking mean. I love it. Only thing I'm changing is, I'm swapping out the stock burstbuckers and I'm going to install a set of "Fenris" humbuckers. "Fenris" is a model made by Wolfetone Pickups. From the website...

"named after the Mythological Fenrir, the Norse Fenris Wolf,
for it's loud, powerful sound, pronounced midrange snarl
and smooth top end, the Fenris is wound to 14.5k and uses
Alnico-2 magnets. Very good in the bridge position, may also
be had as a somewhat less output neck position too."

Anyway, I figure after that, this Les Paul will
be a perfect complement to my Oxblood LP
with Ceramic 8 humbuckers (22K!) Here's
some pics of the Korina.......

Damnit 3EyedGoat, you seem to have the best looking guitars in the world.

Thanks Guys, I've been pretty lucky. About 12 years ago, I was working
minimum wage washing dishes in a restaurant. About every month or so,
my Asshole boss would order me to scrape out the dumpster to keep the
smell down. WORST JOB I EVER HAD. My guitar kept me from going insane,
though. It was a no-name strat copy I'd bought $40 at a pawn shop. No
amp, just me and that guitar and a 12 pack of Milwaukee's Beast every
night. That was the best guitar I ever had. Later when things had started
going better for me, I gave it to a friend of mine who I thought could use
some good luck. I wish I had that one back now.

I'll do a group shoot of the whole harem soon. I need
to sell a few first, as I can't really afford to have this
many. I kind of lucked out with this Les Paul. Gibson
was supposed to make 50 of these Korina/quilt-top's
with 1959 specs, so I bought it for less than a regular
Historic LP costs. But then Gibson decided (who knows
why) to only make 10 of them.

So, anybody else have a Korina guitar?
There's got to be some more out there.

I actually like quite a few of their models. Their Spawn, the Bich (shaped guitar), V, and Wraith are pretty awesome.

While we're off topic about guitar companies, does anyone have any experience with KxK Guitars?

If K.K (Priest, not Slayer) is willing to endorse them, then it must be good.

I like the Arachnid bass. The dude from Averse Sefira just got one and it sounds pretty good on overdrive.

Looking at the guitars, I'd say it largely depends on how much they are... For around $1000-1500 they'd be a great deal, but any more than that and I can't see spending that much on a basically unknown guitar, when the money could go to an ESP, USA Jackson, etc...

I've been watching their guitars for a while now and they're around $2000. $1800 if you strip it down to the bare minimum (no inlays, nothing custom) or $2300 with custom inlays, paint, or headstock.

For that much cash you could get a good ESP Standard and have $1000 left over, or a USA Jackson and have a few hundred. Not worth it.

Moser isn't hugely well-known, but he did work for
BC Rich in the mid-70's. He was the original designer
of the "Rich Bich". Neal Moser's been around for a
while. Then again, it's hard to compete with ESP.

I was talking about the KxK guitars. Moser guitars seem very nice, but their import line is very overpriced.

Those KxK look very cool. First I've heard of them.
