It's ok but I wouldn't describe it as "ultimate". How do you come to that opinion?

1. It reflects the band's sound
2. Hard to read
3. Looks like it was carved into a peice of wood, even though it is pretty simple.

Agalloch Logo

I love the band but I hate that logo, I've been in a horrible state of wanting to buy an Agalloch shirt, but also not wanting a shirt with that hideous logo on it for ages. I don't like the weediness of it. And it's not symmetrical at all, I like logos to be a little bit more structured.

I love this one, it seems to be very 'dreamy' to me I guess. I also like My Dying Bride's logo because it looks extremely bleak.

I'm actually in agreement that it looks like shit on the shirts and i've had the same predicament. I just like the logo in that it reflects the sound, but don't like the look itself.

I can't think of any other bands from the same time period that had as intricate of logos as Holy Terror did.

Makes sense, it does represent the bands sound very well.

I really like these Nokturnal Mortum designs. The top one would have to be my favorite.

I always loved Metallica's first logo, like the one for "Kill", and "Lightning". I don't know, i just love the logo, and I still find myself drawing it without noticing somItimes.

I agree with, Ceremonial Castings, Agalloch, and Summoning.
I would like to add Wolves in the Throne Room

Sure, you can't read it, but it just looks perfect for the band too me.

I really like this one, the fortress (with the letters creating a misty shroud around it) emanates a really haunting atmosphere.

Sharp, hard edges and rough symmetry have always struck me as really awesome. Example:

Image

Toxic Holocaust is probably my favorite thrash logo. Symmetrical, somewhat illegible, sharp pointed corners, it's got it all.

Kataklysm's circular logo is awesome purely because I didn't realize it spelled the band's name until earlier this year (I'd been familiar with the band for years).

Image

And come on, this one is probably the most generically awesome one I've ever seen.

Image

EDIT: Forgot another classic:

Alrighty, let's get out the ol' list.

In death metal, I really like the simple, but ragged, harsh or edged look. For example; Dismember.

And Bolt Thrower:

Or, for something a bit more brutal and twisted, see Suffocation:

Image

Cryptopsy

Image

And Bloodbath

Image

When it comes to black metal, there's a whole world of great logos.

From the mystical look of Emperor.

Image

And Melechesh

Image

To the twiggy scribble of Darkthrone.

Image

A few other logos I like:

And, of course, one of the greatest and most instantly recognizable logos of all:

Interesting. I think I prefer the Bloodbath one, though. It's simplicity helps it.

Has anyone else noticed that Emperor's logo looks kinda similar when you put it on a mirror?

I've always found that one ugly ass logo. Sure, the band kicks ass, but the logo just doesn't feel right to me, probably because of the "not horizontal" thing.

The band is too iconic to begin with to really deem it in "wtf" territory or critique.

Well, the discussion is on favorite band logos, and Iron Maiden, another iconic band, has been mentioned, so why not JP?

I don't really find the Iron Maiden logo to be that remarkable, honestly. In fact it strikes me as rather boring.

probably your age
in the realm of "ultimate metal logos"
it really does go

Metallica, Slayer & Iron Maiden

regardless of what you think of those bands-they had those "perfect logos" to tie in with their status among the metal elite.
