I was interested in them at the time "Unhallowed" came out. I bought that album, but it never really clicked for me. It didn't do anything for me, so I moved on. I haven't listened to any of their other material.

They arnt a bad band at all what so ever. I dont really understand why the recieve heat on here. They personaly arnt my style of music and I dont listen to them but I think they make great music for their style and sound. Just about all my friends listen to them.

I thought nocturnal was okay but probably wouldn't pick up any of there other stuff

I've actually just started to get into them more over the last couple of weeks. Nocternal is a brilliant album, and I don't see all that much wrong with Miasma either.

And to me they're more melodic death metal with some metalcore influences rather than the other way around.

On paper, I feel like I should hate this band. I'm not a big At the Gates fan and I'm not huge on melodeath, although I don't staunchly hate it. And again, I don't see where the metalcore tag comes from really... they have what, one breakdown throughout their entire career (the opening track to Unhallowed)? But there is something about the band that makes me really enjoy them. Perhaps it's the intensity, but this is one of those bands that generally hangs with a crowd I despise, but makes music good enough for me not to care.

My favorite album is probably Unhallowed, even though I'm well aware that about 9 of the 10 tracks use the exact same riff. Miasma wasn't inherently bad or anything, but I find it to be their worst by miles. I seriously can only remember maybe two or three songs after dozens of listens... it just doesn't grab me like Unhallowed and Nocturnal do. Nocturnal is great as well. Ranks up with Unhallowed in terms of memorability and is years ahead in terms of technical skill (there's more than five riffs through the whole album now). I actually think that his vocals have gotten better and worse, I liked the coarse rasp more than his dry shriek when it comes to the high vocals, but I find his low grunts have gotten exponentially better.

I'm a fan of Black Dahlia Murder and in particular, their Nocturnal album. I agree with most people who thought Miasma was a bad album and Unhallowed being pretty good. The vocalist and the drummer are great. Warborn is probably their greatest song on Nocturnal.

The music itself is ok, but I can't stand the horrible vocals.

I second this opinion. They were a guilty pleasure of mine for a short while to be honest, but since then I have grown bored of them. As stated above; nothing overly innovative, but not awful.

First of all, they are not metalcore in the slightest. I have no idea how could have these guys been branded as metalcore. In fact, they sound more like a combination of At The Gates and Carcass. I like some metalcore, so I wouldn't have a problem if they were anyway. Their music is intense, energic and straight to the point. The lyrics are excellent, Trevor Strnad is a great vocalist and the music is highly enjoyable. Haven't heard their others albums completely, but Nocturnal is an incredible album and shows a band in an early stage with much potential. Overall, a very strong band.

My Honest opinion is that BDM is a total In Thy Dreams knock off

and Nocturnal has no originality plus its solos are so repetitive and boring

BDM is like high fructose corn syrup, ok in moderation.

Elizabeth Short, that was a horrible tragedy.

I'd say they are a pretty solid band. They have some good solos, and the drummer is very talented. The vocals are tolerable to good. Unhallowed is their best album, in my opinion.

Trevor wrote some pretty good lyrics for Nocturnal. Although this band gets lumped into the metalcore and deathcore genre I feel like there is more to them...I think that the direction they go in with their next release will decide how they are accepted...with the success of Nocturnal they can go either one of two ways...1)Keep on the same track and possibly release a solid death metal album or 2)Cash in and release a more deathcore album.

Also, The Black Dahlia Murder do a little bit for the death metal scene. They have taken out bands such as Decrepit Birth, Hate Eternal, and some of the bands on the Summer Slaughter Tour this year such as Psycroptic and Aborted...these bands don't normally get a chance to play in front of the number of people that TBDM can draw...which means potentially new fans for these bands.

I think the main reason why they are lumped in as a metalcore band is because of their image. They definitely look like a metalcore band.

Aiden. Believe me when I say that that is only the tip of the iceberg as far as their band photos go. Google Image Search was unhelpful - after a while it stopped bringing up photos of the band and instead began to return gay male porn. Fitting, I suppose.

Deathcore's gay

Well it's good to know that you know exactly what you're talking about.

I've been into them since they released that first ep prior to Unhallowed and quite enjoyed it. I think they are a solid band, lots of talent. They are unfairly categorized because of their image, or lack thereof. I actually think they are more genuine image-wise than most metal bands. My band opened for them last month in Milwaukee and we met them during sound check and what they were wearing when they shows up at the venue is what they wore on stage. Children of Bodom on the other hand went from sweatpants and pullover sweaters to their decidedly more "metal" look. Not to say thats wrong, but just that BDM don't pretend to be anything. They simply are, and I think thats kind of respectable.

As far as their best effort, i would say its a tossup between Unhallowed and Nocturnal. Unhallowed has more highlights, but Nocturnal is more consistent. As far as them sounding exactly like Slaughter of the Soul, well, yes and no. They definitely sound Swedish, and use a lot of the same melodies, but thats like saying At the Gates is a Dismember ripoff. Sure they use the same melodies, but they certainly don't rewrite the same songs as their influences. I guess what I'm saying is don't not check them out because everyone says they sound like At The Gates. Check em out BECAUSE they sound like At the Gates. They certainly have a level of creativity worth a listen.


Also, yes, they are a great live band. The only other band that I've seen that can compete with their level of on-stage intensity is Skinless. Both those bands know how to grab a crowd by the balls and never let go.

Ha, I was at that show! I must've missed your band though because I got pulled over on the way there ($238 for going 18 over... Wisconsin fucking hates out of state speeders), and BDM started literally three and a half minutes after we got inside. You were on that shitty stage near the bar right?

Huh? Seriously? Wow... Play almost any of the girls here in New Zealand BDM and they'd give you a disgusted look and then get the fuck away from you!

I think the lead singer ha an amazing vocal range, it's just because scene kids like this band that people shit all ove them.

Awesome band, loved Nokturnal and they were awesome when I saw them years back. Their two music videos from Nokturnal were cool as well as very funny.

That was a joke, but there an... odd amount of metalcore girls around here, who also like melodeath, but dismiss Amon Amath as too 'ugly'. I would like BDM even if they didn't exist, most of them look like a pug sucking on a nettle.

I know their old drummer Zach; he claims they are the biggest douchebags to walk the Earth. And judging by that promo picture, I can believe it.

Unhallowed was not bad for what it was but overall their music is pretty easily forgettable in the sense that it has been done far better a million times before. Trevor's vocals just keep getting more ridiculous. Plus, they take themselves far less seriously than they should which is a big deterrent for me not to like them; if they don't take themselves seriously - why should I? I'll leave them to be worshipped by the pre-pubescent hordes of Metal Blade records clones.
