does anyone know how big of a difference the sound is? i always thought the original had balance problems

vocals and drums too loud, guitars mixed too low/the guitar sound in general being less potent than before or after.

i might get slapped but i think when bands cover songs from that album-the covers are always superior
i also think the Abominations of Desolation versions of some of the songs are also vastly superior
but i still think musically speaking the album is good, just a very bad execution/recording.

I don't notice much of a difference except for the general volume (the problem of vocals being relatively loud is still present).

Very nice. I should pick it up if I ever find it. The only version I see available at the shops in the city is the original pressing from 1991.

While I like Blessed Are the Sick, I prefer Covenant to it. I may be in the minority on that but I thought consolidating the band into a trio had a purer sound. The fact that they brought in Flemming Rasmussen helped alot too. I hope we get a remaster of that album sometime.

Covenant totally obliterates Blessed, you're not alone ;)

that one doesn't need a remastering whatsoever!

Angel of Disease alone obliterates Blessed as a whole I must say. It's that awesome!

While I think Blessed is much better, Covenant indeed doesn't need a remaster at all.

Yup, I'm definitely on the Covenant Bandwagon! Blessed never clicked with me at all.

I do think Covenant is fine as it is though; its like a sonic bashing.

This might be pushing it, but can I get anyone in here to say that Covenant is better than Alters? Hence, making it their best? I think I'll truely be alone on this one.

Haha, you're on thin ice with Kruel here markthevicktor!

Does it count if I say I enjoy Covenant more and more often than Altars?

..In part. It bears discussion nonetheless. I haven't heard Blessed in awhile. Maybe if I go back again it will stand out a little more to me. I don't think I like it enough to get a remaster.

Angel of Disease, Angel of Disease. Angel of Disease. The trio works and as a result is better.

Angel of Disease was written before David Vincent and Pete Sandoval even joined the band anyway...

Even so, it's on the album and therefore it counts for that album. And it's a damn fine recording. I guess I got you to at least concede that it's their best song. Yes?

Angel of Disease is good but not the best.

That new song sounds boring. The solo is great, though (but that's a given anyway).

Edit: The link works fine for me.

sounds very Heretic'y

which wouldn't be *awful* as long as its not loaded with filler gibberish and has a sound as raw as this live recording.

uuh but whats with those "eeerOAoh-oAOh...Uuh Whoah-oah" things David is doing HAHA!!! ....GOOFY!!!

Lord of All Plagues is the best song on Alters and is also one of their other bests, unfortunately is it is actually a bonus song so that doesn't help Alters' cause even though they inserted it in the main song list on that remaster which is pretty telltale of how awesome it is.

Yeah, I noticed something weird with the vocals, too. I hope he doesn't do that on the album.

New song is ok. Nothing great but that's to be expected after 24 years, I suppose. Reserving judgment until the album drops obviously.

Anyone know if Scott Burns will be producer on this album?

He's retired, and has been for a number of years... so I sincerely doubt it.

Anyway, sort of off topic, but I thought I'd just show Formulas Fatal to the Flesh some love, because for me it is hands down the best Morbid Angel album, and almost certainly in my top 10 death metal albums ever. I'd put Covenant behind it and Blessed behind that. I don't by any means think that Blessed is a bad album though; it's a phenomenal album. Just somewhat hampered by weak production - it boggles the mind that BATS was released the same year as Effigy of the Forgotten, which just rapes and pillages BATS from a production point of view.

I have listened to Alters many times and tried to find out why that is said to be their best but I still keep going back to Covenant. Alters does have good songs like Chapel of Ghouls but I don't see all of its fanfare like others do.

Maybe it's because you were listening to Alters, not AltArs.

Nice try but it was Altars of Madness by Morbid Angel. I will say this, that cover art is the best from Morbid Angel but maybe Gates to Annihilation gives it a run for its money. Though I won't vouch for that albums quality musically.

:durr:

Alter means to change; altar is a place at which rituals are performed.

I know that. Just a typo. I'm drunk and my spelling sucks anyway. Anyone have any tour information for the upcoming album?

I actually like Blessed the most, but I imagine I'm probably alone here. In any case, the first three are indomitable in the realm of death metal, and Formulas is very good too. Not much faith in the new album, but dammit they better do a US tour soon! They haven't been here since '05, and I missed that one :annoyed:

If it's like the Altars of Madness reissue, there will be a few alternate versions of songs on the main playlist.
