The work of Travis Smith is impressive, not to mention beautiful. Some notable examples:

Moonsorrow - Havitetty

Winds - Reflections Of The I

Opeth - Ghost Reveries

That looks pretty good, what albums it from? (it's probably an album everyone knows of and will just show my ignorance)

Mortician - "Chainsaw Dismemberment" is the above.

Does anyone know who did Cryptopsy's "Blasphemy Made Flesh"'s and Graveworm's "Eternal Winds" covers? I can't find out who.

I thought it was the same artist who did Sepultura's Arise cover which is Michael Whelan.

I'm glad that there is a Parental Advisory warning on the front, because if there hadn't been, I would never have guessed that there was any explicit content. :nods:

Mortician - "Chainsaw Dismemberment" cover above looks hyper-violent :guns:

Yes, it is.
From his bio:
"...in the past three decades he [Whelan] has created more than 350 book and album covers for authors and artists like Isaac Asimov, Anne McCaffrey, Ray Bradbury, Stephen King, the Jacksons, Sepultura, and MeatLoaf. His clients have included every major U.S. book publisher in addition to such diverse companies as National Geographic, Roadrunner Records, and The Franklin Mint."

I agree. I hate photoshop CG covers. Hand made is superior every time out.

I love Carnage's "Dark Recollections".

It's sick. It's twisted. And I have no idea what the hell it is. Awesome. :headbang:

That's awesome. I love abstract cover art.

One of my favorites is Mar de Grises' The Tatterdermalion Express:

I'm interested to see what other examples of abstract album art people enjoy.

Nobody mentioned Kristian Wåhlin (a.k.a. Necrolord) yet? I'm surprised. He made the godly covers of the first two Dissection albums as well as the Live Legacy album, Bathory's Blood on Ice and Nordland I & II, Emperor's In The Nightside Eclipse (someone mentioned that album already), Ensiferum's albums, King Diamond's Voodoo and Wintersun's S/T.

Don't Forget Sacramentum's albums, at least Far Away from the Sun. The woodcarving used for In the Nightside Eclipse was done by some guy from the 1800s.

Yes, the horse, rider and trail of demons on Nightside are based on:

Thanks for the links dude..,,It was insanely sick to see the entire version of Cause of Death as well as the Epidemic of Violence cover art....I had no idea that they shared the same artist...excellent and memorable artwork for two great fucking albums...

The demolition hammer painting is fucking awesome.....the man exposing his bones as well as the ghoulish figure behind the window were no where to be found in the epidemic cover art...which is why I never thought much about it.

Piece of Time is pretty good, but the hourglass looks a tad bit comical. Unquestionable Presence is fantastic, but I don't really care for Elements.
