thanks for the reply SAB,

but i have all of those albums bar hammer, which i will investigate right now. cheers. i agree, the samson stuff is really great. ive had "shock tactics" for about five years, and got the other ones more recently. blind fury aka pariah aka SATAN is great to. that out of reach abum is a genre classic.

a couple more bands im into at the moment (NWOBHM) are

STORM QUEEN
BLEAK HOUSE
CLOVEN HOOF
SPEED (bruce dickinson pre samson)

You'd definitely dig Angel Witch, one of the best NWOBHM bands around.

I would be really interested in hearing Pariah and Satan, but have never come across them. I guess I'll have to look harder. I figured you would have known Samson considering those albums have Bruce Bruce on them, but I threw them in for good measure.

yeah, good call. trying to hunt around for HAMMER

as SATAN theyre very strong. their full-length "Court in the Act" is a great, heavy-feel album, kinda thrashy.

im currently looking for "White Spirit" and "Witch Cross" if anyone has anything to say about them???????

isnt one of the dudes from maiden, like Janick Gers, a former member of White Spirit? could be wrong.

anyway, any aditional NWOBHM recommendations would be great.

I'm not sure if they're "underground" or anything, but I really like Holocaust.

Cheers, havent really heard of em. will check em out.

As an aside, scotland's "TYRAN' PACE" is an amazing NWOBHM band, that has a real early 80's priest feel that is just great. recommended for any NWOBHM or priest fan for sure. if anyone can recommend any other bands that sound real close to priest that would be great.lol

GOLDSMITH (formed by Pez form Bitches Sin (UK))

Probably one of the best NWOBHM I've heard and I've heard plenty.
The "Life is killing me-Best of" is all you need from this act. It can be hard to find, if you have no luck, I can upload a rip of it for you.
Best regards

sounds good, cheers. Bitches Sin is great stuff.
I have the "Twelve Pounds, And no Kinks" Demos, as well as the "your place or mine" demo, complete with true early 80's demo art. cant find that GOLDSMITH album anywhere though.....

keep the recommendations coming

I would love to become a certified NWOBHM nut if I had the money for it. Some of the main things on my 'to get' list are:

Angel Witch - Self Titled 25th Anniversary Edition
Atomkraft - The Neat Anthology (Has all their early material to my knowledge)
Blitzkrieg - A Time of Changes - Phase 1 (It has not only the album but virtually all their early material)
Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations

I'm also a massive fan of Saxon, Venom and of course Priest (more like forerunners to NWOBHM) and Maiden.

As for something a bit rarer, have you got the Gogmagog record which featured Paul DiAnno and Janick Gers? That would be an interesting piece of history to own. What about White Spirit for that matter?

<edit> Oh, and the Hollow Ground I've heard was brilliant. What a pity their stuff is so hard to come by. Plus Ethel the Frog always deserves a mention for having the least 'metal' name of any band ever.

Satan and all their incarnations are incredible. So check out their full length's, especially "Court in the Act" for blisteringly fast NWOBHM along with their albums released under Blind Fury and Pariah. Pariah was really experimental, it's pretty thrashy but a lot of the dual harmonies and guitar leads go back to NWOBHM influences, really unique.

Cloven Hoof is downright incredible. Everything they've done is really awesome, with the exception of "Eye of the Sun" that you could probably skip.

Tysondog is top notch. Both albums are great.

Angel Witch is worth looking into, kind of comparable to Blitzkrieg I'd say.

Also since you mentioned Chatauex, check out Grim Reaper (that is if you don't know about them!)

DeathRiderDoom and Aoc: You should probably take that to PM's.

XEOGRED-

i agree, SATAN is great, thrashy NWOBHM progenisis. Have the genre-classic "Out of Reach" under the tile of BLIND FURY which is great. i have it as an LP rip though, which is kinda poor quality, but....

really keen to hear PARIAH, (also wanna hear the early 80's LA punk/HC band of the same name) but it's hard to find. youve given a good description.

i have that ANGEL WITCH s/t which is of course, another genre classic, kinda similar to PAGAN ALTAR.

will do on the TYSONDOG recommendation. have heard their name bandied about, but havent really tried to hunt em down

GRIM REAPER: only perhaps my favourite band of all time. thats how i got into chateaux. also, that ONSLAUGHT album, with steve grimmet on vocals is worth checking out, but it's not their best effort.

Yeah, I really don't mind that Onslaught album ... (I have a review up for that one and The Force), but it's just totally weird coming from Onslaught. :P
