Who else thinks that Slaughter were an important band in the creation of death metal? I think Strappado is one of the heaviest albums of 1986, even heavier than Darkness Descends and Pleasure to Kill. I can also see the influence they had on grind. The super muddy guitar tone and short breakneck speed songs.

I called it a couple months ago: We'd be seeing more and more "appreciation" threads. We need to keep these types of discussions at high standards if so many are gonna be allowed.
Yes,Slaughter are awesome. Always in my rotation.

Strappado is great. Love the crushing guitar sound and irreverent attitude. Some great riffs, especially when they go for a slower, early Celtic Frost-ish style. An efficient record, I say.

I agree with the sentiments above on how Strappado is a great album. Personally, I can really only stand thrash of a similar vein (ie. death/thrash, extreme thrash) which is why Slaughter's music speaks out to me so much. Thrash is a very iffy genre in general. It's either very good or very shit. There's no middle ground thrash. Dark Angel, Slaughter, early Kreator, early Slayer, Morbid Saint, Sadus' first album and like 10 others I can't think of right now are pretty much the only good thrash bands out there.

I think it's in One Foot in the Grave.

EDIT: yep. And it's in the beginning, but the songs only a minute long. It sounds like he says "Want to fuck you!" I'm listening to it right now and the song has a blast beat the whole way through.

That wasn't the instance I was thinking of :p

I swear I remember when I first downloaded their stuff off their site like four years ago, there was one song that had that part where it was like " 1,2 .. Fuck you!!" couple of times pretty well into the song. If someone who has a really good recollection of the Slaughter disco ( and maybe even Strappado), could help me out.

Anyone heard Napalm Death's version of "Incinerator"?
It's so much better than the original imo.

"Tales of the Macabre"? I remember Usurper covered it and there was "1-2 1-2 fuck you" at the end of the song.

Slaughter kicks so much ass. "Strappado" certainly had a huge influence on early death metal bands, and is still one of the best albums in the genre.

Ah hah! I found the song I was thinking of ! It was Shadow of Death, man that song kicks fucking ass.

Best song on Strappado ? For me it's between One foot in the grave and Incinerator. I just love how the riffs work so well with the frantic drumming especially on One foot in the grave

It's "heavy" and fast at parts but low on brains. Total kiddie thrash and it shows, at least to me. The riffs sound generic, like something Slayer might come up with at jam practice while they were still learning their instruments. I never cared for this band and I doubt I ever will.

^Negru_Voda: That's part of their appeal - they're very influenced by punk, aside from Slayer and Celtic Frost. Just look at their logo - a zombie punk :D

The '1,2...1-2 Fuck you!' is on a couple of tracks, 'Surrender Or Die' too off the top of my head. It was a Wendy O Williams thing.

As far as them influencing Death Metal though, I dunno - Grind definitely...

As I see it, Slaughter influenced Repulsion, who in turn influenced Carcass & Nihilist/Entombed.
Chuck rehearsed with them but his music doesn't really sound much like Slaughter.

aaah hahaa SLAUGHTER were GREAT!
total hyperactive spazzout whirlwind Deathrash meant to snap your neck 6 times before you hit the ground. and those Frosty bits? I think they had to be the first band to totally ape Celtic Frost riffs... and then those manic, high tension vocals? Classic nuts stuff, for you people who think it's "boring" i really must scratch my head, Slaughter was always intense, mostly compact and quite aggressive and uncompromising!

maybe you're just meant to listen to wuss music ;)

I think they rule but prefer when they started trying to sing about alien rampages and stuff. Because by then they had started playing slightly more technical. But the early stuff is great too.
