My point is that it's not humor at all. He didn't make a statement like "metal existed before Nitro" anyway.

I haven't read yet what other people wrote in this thread, but I saw Nitro at Cat Club in NYC back probably around 1988-1989 (not sure the year) and while technically talented obviously, they were hands down the most annoying band I ever saw out of that period. Even somehow more annoying than Pretty Boy Floyd. For me, over the top enough is Crimson Glory. I can't get with it at all. Besides, when I saw them live, as many of the bands at that time did live, had piped in backing vocals and guitar layerings in there.

Reading this thread made me download O.F.R. Fuck, this is the shittiest and cheesiest music I have heard. I'll definitely listen to it again for laughs. Although come to think of it, my first official run through of the album, it made me somewhat happy and giddy. :)

Bullshit. That's impossible.

No it's not impossible, Harmonic chanting is a technique that holds one note while another moves in a melodic pattern. It freaked me when I heard it done. (I don't really know if that's what it's called, but the guy that showed me called it harmonic chanting. I doubt the Nitro guy is harmonic chanting though.

I just listened to Nitro's O.F.R.

Ok, it sucks. I can't believe a singer can be so goddamn annoying, it's like King Diamond gone wrong gone gay gone stupid, and without his evil tone. The backing vocals sound like Helloween's, but without the part where they are totally awesome; and though obviously Michael Angelo is a fucking monster, the solos are completely anti-climatic; it sounds like some sort of metal cartoon. Being over the top and cheesy is great, but there's a limit to everything.

They make me laugh though!

So it's basically endless, whiny falsetto? Sounds even worse than before.

And Michael Angelo is the most pretentious name I've ever seen.

It just seems really obnoxious in this context. I'm not really sure if that's his actual middle name, though.

I have a feeling I'm going to like this band, just because I see these complaints people are throwing at them. I'll let you guys know in like a half hour.

When I saw that band shot I knew I had to listen this band. Wow. that's glamest thing I've heard in a long time. Better however than that picture or the other people posting would lead you to believe.

The band seems very technically proficient (especially Michael Angelo Batio) but the whole is less than the sum of the parts.

Love that band pic though!

These guys are good, definitely better at songwriting than some other glam bands, less pop and more metal. "Machine Gunn Eddie," "Bring it Down" and "Fighting Mad" are all damned fine 80s metal songs.

We've had a lot of pretty bad (and obvious) trolls in the past, so don't expect anyone to give you the benefit of the doubt.

That being said, being a 'good' glam band is like being only half-retarded.

Nitro wasnt the first to use blastbeats (duh). But they were one of the first non extreme grind or crossover bands to do so..even if the drum production kinda sucked on OFR.

I love the vocals too, though they get on my nerves sometimes. But theyre hilarious.

The second album seems to have sucked though (never heard it officially but have heard some since I have the Jim Gillette vocal video).

Nitro should toughen up and reform/tour.

Theyd give their modern equivalent (Dragonforce) a run for their money!

The first thing I thought of when I heard that. Lord Worm has (and I have footage of it) done a fifty-two second scream, an extended version of Open Face Surgery's outro scream.

I'm not much of a Batio fan anyway. Shred, shred, ambidexterity, double-neck... snore.
But the ambidexterity is pretty cool.

I'm surprised that so many people hate this band. I find them to be totally fucking outrageous that it blows your head off!! They are so over the top it's just like pure 80's!

By the way do you have that footage of that Lord Worm scream?

Well, as I've said before, most metalheads don't like glam.

For those of you who don't know, Nitro's singer, Jim Gillette, is a FUCKING BAD-ASS. He's into MMA currently and there are some pretty insane stories about when the members of Nitro got into fights back in the day and Gillette basically hospitalized everyone he came across to the point where he would be picking other people's teeth out of his knees.

So, yeah...don't make fun of Nitro.

Being a badass doesn't make your music good. I mean if there was a metal band founded by Clint Eastwood, it wouldn't necessarily be good.

I don't think he was suggesting that it somehow makes the music good. Regardless, that is pointless, because he isn't even going to read this thread anyway.

How can you deny the greatness that is "ANOTHER FREIGHT TRAIN COMIN'!!!"?

In general, Nitro is plain bad, but hilarious. Plus, Michael Angelo, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-XfnkLdkjo fucking rules. They're enjoyable if you want to listen to someone play competent and fast shred solos in hair metal.

Hey Deathcorpse, can you tell us a little more about this ultra-annoying Nitro experience? I'm morbidly curious.

Hah, nowhere near as cool as Toxik, though. I downloaded some of that "O.F.R." album a few months ago, probably inspired by someone on here ... the first time I heard "Machine Gun Eddie" I laughed long and hard, but the second time I was incredibly boredd. I guess circumstances mean everything. Anyway, that drummer really is quite ... irritating .. if not actually bad.

haha, and they used piped-in vocals and guitars live ... what a bunch off wankers.

Off-topic trivia .. I guess you could say Carl Palmer used a blastbeat in 1971, during the ELP song "Tank" ... one of the coolest drum performances I've heard in my life.

Whered you hear they used piped in vocals and guitars live? Hopefully it wasnt the OFR tour, maybe the second tour? (that album kinda sucked anyway)..

I don't know if Nitro were ever supposed to be 100 percent serious. I mean any of you ever seen their instructional videos? (vocal power, etc?)

Hilarious (but informative stuff).

And by the way.. Lead singers get all the babes ba ba ba babes! LOL

I meant to say this earlier, but if you want a GOOD mesh of some glam with some thrash, then go check out Laaz Rockit's first two albums. Can't even begin to describe how badly they beat out Nitro here.

Laaz Rockit's first album doesn't even have half the charisma these guys have. They are a better band songwriting-wise, though, more consistent.

Mostly I just think that Laaz Rockit debut is lame.

He's obviously playing it up like he's a Nitro fanboy who thought they started metal, what's so hard to understand?

It's like saying:

"Oh my god, my sister died"
"Hold on a second, you have a sister?"

What do you guys find so offensive about this band? They're not much cheesier than most glam, they was some pretty cool heavy metal riffing, and some ridiculously intricate solos. I can't say I really like them, but it's not like some "WORST BAND EVAR" thing.
