Well, we have a thread for almost every instrument but this.

Post your amps here and discuss amp related-stuff and/or opinions.

I have a Line 6 and I hate it.

Are ENGL amps any good? I heard good things about the Fireball

A lot of people swear by ENGL... but I've never played one.

What Line 6 do you own?

I've currently got a Marshall MG50. It's unbearably shit, but with pedals and some careful EQ-ing I can extract some usable tones out of it. Plus it's fairly loud.

In a week or two I'll be picking up either a Marshall AVT50 or a 40w Marshall DSL. Having a decent amp for a change is going to be very nice!

Across the continent, there's a Genz Benz El Diablo 100 sitting on top of a Carvin 412 cabinet, gathering dust. That is my amp. While NONE of the clips on YouTube do it justice, I find it to be a very warm and "alive" sounding amp, not to mention versatile.

I have a Tech 21 trademark 60 arriving in the mail today, for the sake of having a good practice amp that I could potentially gig with and use for apartment noodling.

Spider III 15W

It's alright, but most of the time I play my guitar unplugged.

I used to own a Peavey Studio Pro 40, it wasn't too good for the doom tone I wanted...so, I recently bought a Peavey ValveKing 112...tube amps are wonderful, aren't they?

Yeah... they're decent. I only use mine since I can't bring a half stack into my dorm room. :/

I use Marshall JCM-800 Lead Series head in my rehearsal room. It is connected to some Marshall 4*12 cab I cannot identify. This is a very sharp sounding combination, and not very friendly to pedals and effects.

Are Orange Amps good for other stuff than stoner/doom/sludge metal?

I have a Marshall VS100 Combo. Sounds great, but for recording, I go straight from the line out to the recorder. I've always been happy with the sound I get doing that.

At the moment I'm playing out of a peavey bandit 112. Its decent but hopefully at some point I'll save enough money to get the peavey valve king half stack.

I use a Marshall MG10.
Probably sits at the most bottom of the barrel, but it does what I need it to do.

Currently I'm playing out of a Roland Cube 30 through a cheap Sound System PA. Amazingly, I feel the tone is absolutely perfect for what I like and the volume is pretty good out of the PA amps. The only thing I have problems with is the consistent gain on the bass end. If I were to play something that started on 6th string to say 3rd string you'll hear in the background the unfretted 6th note ring in the background audibly. I'm pretty sure this is just sloppy string silencing technique, but figured I'd mention it.

From what I've heard, Engl is pretty much the epitome of amazing amps/heads, and when I have the money I'm probably springing for an Engl head, although I'm not sure on what cabs to use in conjunction with it.

I play through a 12 Gauge Kustom. It's a very simple and straight forward amp, and it's mainly for volume (or the way I use it, anyways). I go the for the "amp+pedal=good sound" not the "amp=good sound". It's a lot more money, but as a guitar player, it's worth it, and with analog pedals, there's so much more versatility. It cost my drummer (birthday present) 200$ only, and at half volume can just about break windows. (Not really, just giving you the idea that it's very, very loud)

ENGL amps are fantastic!! Hands down the best for European-style metal. You just can't go wrong with an ENGL, unless its like the Thunder/Screamer or the Classic model.

Personally I'd rather get a Blackmore than a Fireball, but thats just me. My E530 preamp kicks ass.

most metalheads think i'm crazy, but i love fender amps. i used to play through a 1968 fender bassman, 50 watt tube head. which was incredible. the original bassman is what marshall based their first amp design off of. i shouldn't say based, stole is more like it. it's nearly the exact same design aside from the type of tubes used. that bassman was the most aggressive amp ever, i would plug into the guitar channel, and jump it to the bass channel and crank both- easily acheived the sound of a jcm800, and more voluem than you would ever need. unfortunately the amp belonged to my drummer's cousin, and at some point he wanted it back. right now im saving up for a fender hot rod deville, great pure tube tone. i play all types of metal, mostly thrash influnced traditional/power metal, which the fender's smooth, midrangy distortion is ideal for. i also play alot of death and black metal, and the amp can handle it fine. it doesnt do the really deep scooped mids sound, but i dont like that anyway, it gets lost in the mix too easily. the clean channel is also amazing and i could use pedals with it if i had to to achieve a certain sound
