This is a blog where I post reviews of metal albums, mostly obscure stuff. I also write sporks, which is where I make fun of shitty fan fiction. Come visit me sometime.

I've decided to diversify and start posting some opinion pieces that aren't related to metal.

Don't Go To TV Tropes: http://autisticmetalhead.blogspot.com/2012/05/dont-go-to-tv-tropes.html

The post about piracy.
Just because big companies are rip offs doesn't make it okay to steal music. The excuse about having no local record store is pathetic. There is something called the internet and you can actually buy music directly from bands or labels. Bands do NOT make their "revenue" through touring and merch sales (Unless we are talking about bands who are backed by the same spoon feeding corporations you are talking about), and not all labels rip off their artists. Downloading is in fact harming music such as albums being leaked before release dates etc.

besides, who wants a collection of mp3s?

It took me a while to respond to your post because I was laughing at it so hard. I'm not even gonna bother responding to your idiocy. Instead, you should read The Sky is Rising by Techdirt.

My post still stands. You still haven't explained to me why I don't understand Techdirt's report.

You will not respond because you don't have the intellect to properly justify stealing, clearly.

Saying that "downloading music is stealing" over and over again does not make it true. Did you even bother to read the link I posted?

This guy deleted my comments from an article at his blog saying that I was a government agent who was running a data-mining operation. I had merely stated that there is no reason to pirate nowadays as most artists and record-company's will stream a new release and also there is Bandcamp, Spotify, Rdio etc.

He then sent me a bunch of links stating that pirates spend more than people who don't download. I found this strange as I have yet to meet these pirates who spend more than they download. When I asked him how much he personally has spent on music he responded by stating he bought two t-shirts in the past week and people are more likely to go to concerts if they download. I then asked him again how much music he had purchased in the past year and how many gigs/shirts he bought. He then stated it was rare for bands to go there where he lived. I then asked him to please respond to how much merch/concert tickets and music he had actually purchased and he deleted all of my comments and said I was a government agent!!!! WTF???

Also, stating you pirate as you live in a small town where there is no underground metal selection at Wal-Mart is ridiculous as well. Underground metal has never been available in the average music store and the vast majority I've purchased in the last 20 years has been from mail order from the labels or artists and distros. The odd time you'll find something in HMV but seriously, how often do you find the bigger metal bands like Obituary or even Nachtmystium at the mall?

Jeez since when is asking the simple question: How much actual music, merch and concert tickets you've purchased in the past year in proportion to what you downloaded trolling? You are the one who has posted several pro-piracy pieces stating as fact that pirates spend more than non-pirates on music. Don't be a hypocrite and just state "I don't pay jack," instead of not answering the question.
