The GATES OF SLUMBER (U.S.) "...the Awakening" CD review by http://www.progressivewaves.com

Image

By Childeric Thor

Originally published in August 2004 by Final Chapter Records, ... The Awakening first anvil The Gates Of Slumber, now entitled to a second life, decorated for the occasion with another title as a bonus ("The Cloacked Figure") nearly 10 minutes still , while his cover swapped "Triumph of Death" for an illustration of Bruegel Ken Kelly, Heroic Fantasy famous artist whose work has dressed many albums Rock, Rising Rainbow at those Manowar, the Open Fire by Alabama Thunder Pussy Suffer No Guilt to his successor, justly.

This choice is not trivial in that it clearly reveals the evolution of the Doom Americans known sabbathienne of obedience in its infancy, and more epic Heavy Metal then although still traditional, making the group version Empowered and telluric Manilla Road and Cirith Ungol. Having now established its identity, as well as audio visual, it is natural that the trio when repeat ... The Awakening, offers it as a case his heart and mythological.

If that sounds less heavy metal disks to come, its contents remain eight years after its completion, a pure concentrate of leaden riffs that would not actually denied the original Black Sabbath, especially the singing guitarist Karl Simon is sometimes not so distant stamp of Ozzy Osbourne. Prepared from three demos scheduled between 2000 and 2004, this first attempt proved to be a masterstroke as, exuding an atmosphere of overwhelming Apocalypse, the end of the Middle Ages, that carve guitars mined by gravity petrified mammoth and rhythmic.

Between the two sentinels massive sabbathiennes that are the title track and "The Burial" over 9 minutes each counter, the album connects a handful of Heavy ums where the roots come to the surface, like the rapids " The Executioner "and" Broken On The Wheel "that slays a solo enjoyable, but sediment does not really hide a base Doom thick and rough, as evidenced by the mammoth" The Judge "and" The Jury "where the Yanks never go second, trapped in a layer earthy.

First step in a very rich discography, The Awakening is a very good album, dark and stocky whose intensity falls at any time although the style of The Gates Of Slumber is still in gestation. Two years later, Suffer No Guilt, focusing more towards Heavy epic fix it permanently, confirming the place of his parents among the heralds of Doom U.S..

The GARDNERZ (Sweden) "It All Fades" CD EP review by ISK

Image

By Arnel Saric Sharan

The Gardnerz the Swedish death metal / doom quartet in 2011. issued their debut release "The System of Nature," and already last year are back with a new release - the EP-ing "It All Fades". On the release of the EP is six songs, five of which are authoring, and the sixth is a twisted processing Darkthrone "Transilvanian Hunger." With a length of more than thirty-five minutes, the EP release is perfectly long enough (short) that you do not get bored, and even if you are not a drag.

I tried to roll over in his head a database of bands that I come to mind when listening Gardnerze and we go pretty hard to point a finger at a band that remind me Gardnerz (do not mind what I get rid of this constant The from its name), and I dare to say that The Gardnerz is quite unique band - though moments taken from Doom and mid-tempo death metal, and there are acoustic sections which are widespread in various metal genres. Sami riffs are very melodic and interesting, even for one moment you do not know what the band thought of that below - the smart arrangements in each case.

The vocals are what make my biology teacher in high school said - tuc-muc . They growl caused a lot of inappropriate, but remained singing, reciting and the rest is great packed befits compositions. Already the Skids "Transilvanian Hunger" listeners will be hit or miss song, the acoustic treatment with female vocals, which at certain seconds pulled even on Bjork, and as for me, really interesting approach to song and processing.

Quite solid and interesting release Swedes escape from the classic Swedish krljanja, the album that got me interested, and the release from 2011. year.

The GATES OF SLUMBER (U.S.) "...the Awakening" CD review by ISK

Image

By Arnel Saric Sharan

American traditional doom metal trio The Gates of Slumber has already been mentioned in the pages ISK Web Magazine review of reissues of their album, "Suffer No Guilt". 2012th year on the CD reissue has experienced and their widely acclaimed debut work "... The Awakening." Praised, and not without reason, this debut album is a pompous piece of old school dumanja .

The growing popularity of the genre, and the band has led up to this re-release in CD format by Abyss Records that is simply worth having. With a brand new cover design and layout issues that illustrate legend Ken Kelly (Conan / KISS / Manowar ...), on this issue there is a bonus track for the first time on CD release "The Cloaked Figure".

This edition, even more than the earlier talked about "Suffer No Guilt" album draws on Saint Vitus to the extent that only the vocals that make the difference between the two bands. Since I'm the person that Saint Vitus never enough, it will mean that this album is under compulsion to all of you who have not already met with the same.

The interesting thing about the album is that he came out in August 2004. when it was created and the whole project is called "out of control".

If the head flies down and harder to back up the sweet sounds of doom symptoms, this is inevitable perusal. Another hit, a reissue worth it meets with the younger band, recalls and older.

DAEMONICUS (Sweden) "Deadwork" CD review by http://www.metalwave.it

Image

By Carnival Creation

The combo of svedere DAEMONICUS returns after four years after the exploits represented by the debut "Host Of Rotting Flesh" (reviewed by my colleague at the time) at the time the idea of playing Death Metal was good but still no personality and Too many connections to other bands known. Now the dough seems partially changed, our data have not found then display quality and here stronger than ever.
course, yet there is nothing new from the front and this "being Swedish" maximally affected in each piece composed of a quintet that structure the songs in an order already experienced many times but at least in this second chance something begins to move, nothing to think about having to do with a band that has finally seen the light yet "Deadwork" definitely sounds much more interesting than the previous "Host Of Rotting Flesh", this does not rain.
production seems to have improved and performs several times of good valuations regarding riffs, rhythms and voices typically harsh, even the melodies seem to grow like mushrooms, of course nothing original as also remind their fellow citizens of the period Bloodbath "Nightmares Made Flesh" (ie with the excellent Peter Tägtgren), but at least they played almost perfectly without exceeding in any case.
DAEMONICUS I remain one ' good band from the technical point of view able to create strong tracks and by the very great impact also are not to trash in any case, since there is great professionalism behind this "Deadwork", who pays professionalism. Ok, there is a stylistic research of some kind of entity, but this time I do not think it's a problem over it. Album decent nonetheless.

BANE (Serbia) Interview by Metal Fever

Image

By Nikola Knezevic

With us, Branislav Panic founder and chief man in the band Bane also a member of the band and Keychain Goat Eater. There are currently in Canada. Bane is a band from Novi Sad was initially a one man band now line up with the team: Bojan Vukoman (bass), Nokkturno (bass, vocals 2011), backing vocals (2012), Mark Gacnik (drums 2012), Lukáš Sýkora (guitar 2012) . Bane has so far had seven editions, not counting demos 2007th not published six. There are EP, three and two split albums STUDY.

MF : Hello Branislav, greetings from the cast of Metal Fever.
How'd you come up with the idea to start recording material as a one man band today with a line up of the team according to a small number of artists moving as one man band?

Branislav: Greetings to you! He had set a long time ago ... in a period 2005/2006-e years I have been a member of the band Sangre Eterna, and I started writing some of his ideas that simply did not fit into the concept of the band because they are targeting something contrary to what I zamišjao, so it all started from there ... I recorded the first demo when I got out of the band, in the hope that I will get to use the same people to cooperate, but it had not happened.

MF : Why was it not possible collaborators? No you do not initially asked for a promotion?

Branislav: And a lot fewer musicians, people are generally known to be so because I have not found anyone since. Again, on the other hand, it seems to me that the (local, especially local ie Novi Sad) Black Metal music scene was much weaker, and so there was some interest in such a project.

MF : Do today's line up a permanent team or is it now changed since your going to Canada? We read something that you went to Canada for prnonalaženja new members that will refresh composition Bane?

Branislav : This setup was at least somewhat constant until the time I left the country, which means that the band is currently on a "break" when / if I find in general new members of the band corresponding to BANE continued with concerts .

MF : Since first demo entitled "Unvinished" was not published because the production was poor, followed the EP " Misanthropia "2010. year. Can you tell us a little more about it and say that the bands involved in the EP release?

Branislav : Again I say, the first demo was recorded only for the simple reason that I wanted to find a live lineup, because neither has ever been issued because this edition I was always more of a band, not to listeners while the EP "Misanthropia" it somewhat had more sense than the first demo hehe, so we ga and released. On this recording we participated only Goat (Goat Ritual - bass / vocals) and myself (guitar / vocals), to be joined shortly after us Zombie (Infest) on drums. The EP is especially dear to me, because it marked the beginning of a new era BANE as a band and not a project, and experienced its re-release just a few months after the first print run sold out .

MF : How was your experience working with them EP and what is your experience working with people in Canada and people in Serbia? Is there a difference and if so what is it ?

Branislav : Recording EP passed pretty fine, without any major problems. With a Goat was great, but unfortunately he could not devote the same time and the band and decided to come out the same . musicians shining all through the world, but the question is how much he wants and get serious. BANE last setup was ideal, indeed all men were maximal serious and committed to what we were doing, but as you can see it did not come immediately, but only at the beginning of 2012-year. Therefore, it's not about globalization - it does not matter where people are, but the individuality of each man in particular - that is essential .

MF : T in're right and I agree with you. Album "Chaos, Darkness & Emptiness", that contains nine songs of which is my personal favorite, "Pandemonium" was filmed in Canada or Serbia?

Branislav : This album was recorded in the Czech Republic, in HellSound Studio, where they later recorded local bands The Stone, Infest , etc. .. otherwise I'm glad, because it's also a favorite song from the first album.

MF : Pandemonium is really something special. Almost in all editions except the last two and the first EP. participated and Khargash . How was working with them?

Branislav : It had its good side - recording was great, but live performances are the band represented a huge problem with it, so he was replaced.

MF: Split've worked a lot with the band Lycanthropy are "Black Souls Rebellion" (2011) and "Dissolve and COAGULATE" (2012). Tell us more about these issues and some of the band Lycanthropy.

Branislav : Split-these are issues that perhaps love most, because they are exactly what needs to be Underground - brotherhood between the bands. Lycanthropy is a great band from Russia (with members from Ukraine). Their music is really something special and I'm glad to now have these 2 Split editions with them - the first is a 5-Way Digi-CD which is, I think, sold out, while the second zaobelezijo our first release on vinyl - works is a black and white 7 "edition that is limited to 500 copies.

MF : Obviously, these are great splits .. The last album "The Acausal Fire" also makes the second STUDY ten poems. Where was filmed, and what's your favorite tunes you would izdvoio from that album ?

Branislav : The second album was also recorded where the first - Hellsound Studio, Czech Republic. favorite track from it was hard to choose, because we are still not settled everything ... when we publish the third album I'll tell you (laughs). Joking aside, if I had to choose only one, it would probably be "As Chaos Rises."

MF : video for the song "In Silence Endless" whether the material was collected with appearances Bane So it all turned into an official spot or is done all organized.

Branislav: Nah, this spot is essentially the "accident" was released when we skapirali to be able to gather a lot of video material for the same, so we ga izmontirali Nokkturno, Lukas I do. And guess not so bad that the future turns out none of it was planned in advance.

MF: It's interesting (laugh)., tell us briefly how's your other band Keychain?'ll talk about it some other time more, but readers certainly interested.

Branislav: Glad to hear it. Keychain is currently seeking a new singer, because we are not long parted with Milos ... but we have a lot of material, and the plan is the first studio album that would certainly at least should get out to the end year. For now things slow, but what is certain is that once it is gone, there is no downtime. For all those interested can follow us on oficijalnoj Facebook page ( http://www.facebook.com / keychainofficial ), and along the way to listen to us first single "These Empty Skies" ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8a3HDGoDggw) .

MF: And here's a question for the end: How ocenjuješ today's metal scene in Serbia ?

Branislav : Uh ... let's just say the scene as the state. has good bands, it's a fact, but not excellent quality. club has even gone, and when, and there are some, mostly disastrous conditions. Metal Shop, there is no (longer). Publishers can the fingers to name (congratulations to them - you know who you are), a serious promoters have set out to do the job properly, now that it was hard and when virtually no one pays to lead. majority realize that just as a hobby, because of the conditions and lack of professionalism that it all comes down to a more serious level, and therefore all acts in half, not tasty. course, come to the (so we have already concluded 666 times) classic "so-called Serbian Metalac" who do not have a story of how a scene, nor buys discs, nor going to concerts. Nothing in his life had he done for the scene, but sitting behind the screen (usually under an assumed name) and spits on me, or on any other band that there is any kind of "success" - generally spits on the scene, and he actually belong to the same but nothing works constructively to improve the situation. My friends big (it will recognize same), because such like you I have the strength and the will to push forward and to go his way so as not to look like you (physically and psychologically ). I have nothing to hide or be ashamed to say it is. only question: how do you, when you get up in the morning (or the afternoon), and when you look in the mirror ?

MF : This is a great speaking with regard to the I completely agree with you. Todays "Metalheads" should be a little more to address the issue of CD discs . Branislava Thank you so much for your time for this interview. We wish you the best of luck in the future work .

Branislav : Nicholas and Metal Fever - a big thank you, I am the one who needs to thank you for your time - you are the ones who give fans a metal sound what they want to see and read, we have bands that just doing our music, real egoists (laughter)! All the best and to you, we hear you! HAIL CHAOS!-Branislav

The GATES OF SLUMBER (U.S.) "...the Awakening" CD review by http://www.zwaremetalen.com

Image

By Vitus-Frank

The Gates of Slumber is anything but a lazy band, given the number of releases which now has seen the light. In between there is still time to old material to polish and re-release. This release of last year is a reissue of the original released album from 2004.

The term covers not quite the polishing load, because what a huge difference with the original is this! Where the original version anyway there was a dull blanket on the production and the balance between the instruments is not feeling well was, this is now corrected by an explosive mix. You are just blown by your chair. The only downside is now that some less smooth transitions and then some poor vocals now also clearly observable. That should not spoil the fun, because this album is already clear that The Gates of Slumber on the way will go to a prominent position in the doom metal scene.

This new edition features a new cover, which fits well with the warlike covers of the later albums of the band. There is also with The Coaked Figure a bonus track added from the demo time, which fits well with the other songs. Then wait another week before their new EP Stormcrow suits. As already mentioned, it is not a lazy band.

ETERNAL HELCARAXE (Ireland) Interview by The Core of Brutality

Image

By Meowmix

1. Can i get a backstory on the band/ band biography?

Eternal Helcaraxe started in May 2003. Between then and February 2004 began writing for a black metal project based on raw emotion and atmosphere. After several line-up changes both Praetorian and I decided to continue as a two piece and in march 2008 released the first MCD entitled “Palest Kingdom”. Shortly after this release in April of 2008 we were joined by Kozel (ex-Mincing Fury)(cz) on bass, and the lineup was completed in July 2008 when were re-joined by our first drummer Tyrith who both added a new level of atmosphere and intensity to our sound. We have been lucky enough to share the stage with such bands as Impiety, Shining, Spearhead, 1349, Anaal Nathrakh and Keep of Kalessin. Kozel regrettably parted ways with EH and in August 2009 we were joined by Thule, Since then have released a second MCD entitled “To Whatever End” and In August 2011 we completed work on our first full length titled "Against All Odds" and is available now through Abyss Records! Unfortunately due to personal reasons Thule decided to leave EH in December 2012. Regardless, the band will be moving forward until a permanent member is found.

2. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Our main theme lyrically has always been based on strength, tragedy, war and camaraderie. Alot of our lyrics are reflect personal experiences.

3. How have the gigs you guys been doing been?

The gigs have been going great recently, we were on a hiatus for most of last year due to our vocalist/guitarist Praetorian suffering a bad injury. We have been gigging solidly since his recovery and look forward to the year ahead.

4. What equipment do you guys use?

Our drummer Tyrith has offical endorsements with "Czarcie Kopyto" pedals and "Acs" in ear monitors. He plays "Pearl" drums and uses "Sabian" cymbols. Praetorian and myself have been using "crate" guitar amps for a long time, Crate heads and cabs, we switch between guitars often enough which include, "Ibanez", "Gibson" and "ESP".

5. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?

Scandinavian Black metal was definitely a massive influence for us, bands like "Emperor", "Burzum", "Immortal". Some other European bands, "Ancient Rites" and "Amon Amarth" would have also been big ones.

6. Do you remember your first show and what was it like?

Our first show was in August 2008 supporting "Impiety" and "Spearhead". Obviously we have come a long way both playing and performing live but I remember it going very well.

7. What made you guys decide to form a band?

Being friends and fans of heavy music for such a long time, we already played instruments, it seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

8. What is your opinion on sites posting your guys material and other bands material?

Personally it really doesn't matter to us, it is unfortunate to think that CD's will end up obsolete because of these blogspots and sites, and it will be increasingly hard to make money as a band if people can just download your stuff for free. We have never really been in it for the money. We are just glad people are listening to our music.

9. Is there any bands that you guys enjoyed playing with more then the others?

Not really, Every band we have ever played with and supported have always been very friendly. No bad experiences yet.

10. How do you guys feel about the classifications in metal? like deathcore, metalcore and other subgenres and how some get a negative rep.

I personally listen to alot of different bands that have alot of different styles. We incorporate alot of elements into our music and I think it only adds to the music. Your not going to keep everyone happy no matter what way you play your music.

11. What song do you enjoy playing the most?

There are alot of songs we love to play. But I think our favourites right now are "As The Snow Gathers", "We Assist Death" and "Strike"

12. Your biggest band moment?

The biggest band moment so far has to be getting our first full length album "Against All Odds" released by an American label last year. Abyss Records have been doing a great job and can't thank them enough.

13. What is your opinion on the current state of metal?

I don't really have an opinion on this, there is alot of great stuff coming out at the minute and alot of crap. Thats always been the way. More crap than good at the moment unfortunately.

15. How did you guys come up with your band name?

We are all big Tolkien fans and the word “Helcaraxe” is mentioned in his books. It means “Grinding Ice” in ancient Elvish, we felt it was very fitting to our music.

16. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?

We have a couple of things in the pipeline, we have a tape release of "To Whatever End" coming out on "Sword Productions" very soon. We plan on having another release out before the end of the year. Some new merch and plenty more live assaults!

The GATES OF SLUMBER (U.S.) "...the Awakening" CD review by Ripple Music

Image

By Swedebeast

Finally waveriders! This great album, the full-length debut of The Gates Of Slumber, was originally released by Final Chapter in 2004. Unfortunatley the label soon went under and this amazing piece of music has long since been out of print. But now Abyss Records is doing the world a huge favour and service by reissuing it with a bonus track and a different cover. Although the Ken Kelly-made new cover was actually used by Iron Kodex when they released The Awakening on vinyl a few years back.

Resurrection From The Underworld initiates this journey through prosecution, terror, execution and death...you know like life in general. This instrumental piece brings purgatory to mind, if there is such a place and leads quickly to the title track The Awakening(Interpolating The Wrath Of The Undead). Even though this track isn't very fast it's heavy, incredibly heavy and the band pummels me into the ground as evil arises. Karl Simon's voice has a beautiful desperation and urgency that completes the band's music perfectly.

The third chapter in this horror narrative is The Judge and evil rears it's ugly head even more in the disguise of a remorseless judge. And you can feel that when the band launches in to the song. Like someone on the verge of breaking down The Gates Of Slumber weaves back and forth in tempo creating feelings of despair and hopelessness. Karl's guitar playing is impeccable while Jason McCash's thunderous bass again pummels me into the ground with drummer Chuck Brown heaping even more misery on me....fantastic!!!

The Jury is an elongation of The Judge but the band ups the tempo a little bit, not too much because this is doom after all. And they are a tad more elaborate and steps out of the box in certain parts jamming out while the riffing is bone crushing.

Whereas The Jury and The Judge are extensions of each other the same goes for the next two tracks, Broken On The Wheel and The Executioner. Both are the fastest songs on the album and they lean more towards traditional heavy metal but of course the lyrics keeps it doomy indeed. In this two-part segment you see your life flashing before your eyes as all kinds of horror and torture are forced upon you until the axeman finally steps up and relieves you from your misery.

Blessed Pathway To Celestial Kingdom is the beginning of the end. Mainly a thing between Jason and Chuck this instrumental piece to me is when you die and your soul leaves on it's journey to wherever it goes when the body dies. It is slow and captivating, almost soothing and very beautiful. The Burial picks up right where Blessed Pathway To Celestial Kingdom left off and ends the original release. And it couldn't be more fitting than being laid to rest after such a brutal passing. The band brings down the tempo to just about funeral doom which further enhances one's passing.

The bonus track is called The Cloaked Figure and was intended to be on The Awakening but the band excluded in order for a rework of it. When it came time for that drummer Chuck Brown had left The Gates Of Slumber and the song was left unused. When Abyss Records approached them for this reissue the band decided that The Cloaked Figure should be brought back in it's original form.

Dear waveriders, yours truly was blessed enough to get my hands of an original copy of The Awakening before it sold out. Still I think it's great it's available again because more people should own this album. Although it was their first official release The Gates Of Slumber set the bar high for coming albums which they have managed to emulate and surpass each time but that's a different story. This as a stand-alone album is fantastic and since it was their debut that makes it even more better. Great stuff indeed!

SEPTEKH (Sweden) Interview by The Wizard of Noz

Image

By Noswal Nevik

1. Start off by introducing yourself and what is your role in your band?

My name is Staffan and I'm the drummer. I also do some of the composing when I'm in the correct mood.

2. So you are about to release a new EP, what can you tell us about the new release and how does it differ from your previous EP "The Seth Avalanche"?

It contains everything from a rocking Motörheadish sledgehammer type of song to a weird and evilly twisted estranged tune and a truly grand and epic closer to round things off amongst other ditties.

I'd say that it is more coherent and powerful. The songs are more defined, carry themselves well and at the same time fits better together when you look at the whole album. It's also darker and colder in some ways (both lyrically and musically. A bit stern and serious but with a passionate fire raging inside if I'm allowed to be pretentious. You can call it a perfect pit stop between The Seth Avalanche and the new full length that will follow this release. It will introduce some new elements to the musical universe of Septekh

3. Tell me a little about the other members of the band? And do any of you play in other bands?

None of us play in any other band. Septekh is our priority and focus. We have David who is the guitar player and main composer. He played briefly in a weird sort of hill billy country back side blues band called The Cracker Jacks I think. Very dark, which blues can be, but still... Blues. Don't think it was that serious though. Right now he is building a flamethrower. A handyman.

Nils is the vocalist and lyricist. He is also building a flamethrower. Also a handyman.

George-Patrik is the base player. He wants to help out with the flamethrower but can't because he is living hundreds of miles away in the desolate North right now. So he plays the base all day I've heard.

4. Tell me a little about the releases you have and where they are available for purchase?

The Seth Avalanche EP is available from major record stores and digital distributors such as Itunes . Also directly from our label Abyss Records. Very soon Apollonian Eyes will be released, also on Abyss.

5. Are you a touring band or are you a studio only band? If you are a touring band list some of your best shows so far, or if you are a studio only band explain why that is?

We are very much a live act. We love to write songs and to record (being in the studio environment is fun... Most of the time) but more or less all our material is written to work well live. We try as much as possible to capture on record what we do live as well.

6. Do you have any amusing stories from when you recorded your album or when you where on the road?

Not really any fantastic over the top stuff. The most outrageous events has occurred when the band is locked away by itself at the rehearsal place Studio 508 strangely enough. Oh, and there was a rather famous Swedish band (that shall remain unnamed) that came by Silence Studios when we recorded our full length this summer. They arrived early and really had nothing else to do but wait. Naturally you turn to various kind stimulants to make time pass. It turned out to be quite a spectacular night!

7. Name some of the bands that have influenced your playing style and then name some of the bands that people think influenced you but didn't?

Lets see... I've seen people mention Witchery, Skeleton Witch and Gehennah (Swedish one) which are bands that none of us have ever listened to. But Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Darkthrone, QOTSA, Emperor and Aura Noir are some of the bands we like and have been inspired by. Some more than others of course but influences come from so many bands and things so it's always hard to present a clear picture. Every one of the mentioned bands has at least a note combination, drum fill or other part that you can find in a Septekh song and trace it right back to the source.

One day I will start making a list of all the good bands that need mentioning!

8. What are some of your all time favorite albums?

For me I'll go ahead and name three: Aura Noir - Hades Rise, The Smashing Pumkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (badass double album) and Black Sabbath - Sabotage.

9. Name some of the all time worst or overated Metal albums in your opinion?

Very hard to think of any. Usually when an album sucks I tend to avoid listening to it.

10. Let everyone know what the band has planned for the future.

First off we are going to make a video for the song Burn It To The Ground. It will be amazing and eclipse all our previous visual efforts. Then we have a FULL LENGTH ALBUM ready (finalizing the mix now) for the world. That is the big thing. We are also looking into several opportunities to tour this spring. Hopefully we will make it outside of Sweden!

The GARDNERZ (Sweden) "It All Fades" CD EP review by http://www.musicwaves.fr

Image

By Childeric Thor

After birth two years ago first album little charm holder crafts, book with The Gardnerz It All Fades not the successor of The System Of Nature but a simple EP, format unjustly neglected as otherwise unloved often synonymous little thing acting as filler. A wrong. At their extent, modest show the Swedes.

On the one hand by crossing to It All Fades the 30 minutes duration, recall, some "real" disks do not exceed or even slightly and secondly because of the quality of a certain menu with six titles are enough to bring the perpetrators of a sympathetic ear.

Happily, The Gardnerz restores Death / Doom Series B 90s with this song cavernous grater, these guitars numbed desolation and the sound pickup without affectations. By cons, if you hope to detect in him any trace of its geographical origin including the Swedish-grain, you will charge for your car, except the good old school video of Daniel "Devilish" Johnsson, nothing really helps to identify the nationality of It All Fades whose surprising South American roots (mixing achieved in Santiago and Chilean presence of a bassist) regarding flush them more nearly to the surface.

This is not the only surprise of this test. One of them and not the least being the curious reading of the "Transilvanian Hunger" by Darkthrone, transformed into acoustic ballad vocal lines that caress women and for once frankly unrecognizable. It is a success. Heavy and rocky, the other five tracks are dotted with attractive shaped ("Do not Look Back", "A Terrible Desease") qu'irriguent riffs turn into rock or petrified vectors melodies full of subtlety astonishing.

Damage, however, that the song Niclas Ankarbranth never leaves the beaten track and the whole lack of power if large, only flats that still encumber in any way the pleasure one feels when discovering this little group, which will no doubt ... This should not prevent fans Doom Death to the old cast a sympathetic ear to this offering.

DAEMONICUS (Sweden) "Deadwork" CD review by brutalland

Image

By Soulless

Abyss Records 2012 Full-Length A Dead Work of Art The Grandeur of Total Termination Embracing Her Remains In Your Flesh Feast On The Hymn of poverty Sathla Dead Alive From Life Blood Red October (MDXX) Inhabited Nothing But Death Came As Extinction As soon as the "play" turned the on boredom, dawn-rozumicie Swedish death metal is the last pat on kuciapka million ways like whores and it's hard to pick out something nice out of the sea of worthless shit. Successor to hearing the debut "Host of Rotting Flesh" does not inspire the cover looks like a fucked with the first-year student fotoszopa under the influence of ASP. But enough of the complaining, all in all nice to disappoint - "Deadwork" is a solid album, not leaning to either an inch from the frame of the species, perfect sound, but this is not typical of sand sprinkled in the ears, but more powerful, heavy and juicy nakurw, little resemblance to the titles of Hypocrisy. Swedes wywazyli perfectly balance between weight, speed and melody which makes it even after several hearings do not want to give up the peacock from the icing on the speakers. Despite a noticeable lack of violence (that's what I need here a bit) to listen to this quite nicely, a bit of influence Dismember and doing their last desultory. At some point, even the wind blew straight from the horror of horrors - one of the tracks - Inhabited ends the ritual of exorcism or something similar. Everything has been done, but closing on the eye (ear) is not bad. At least not fucked "Deadwork" right out the window, and that's something.

FETUS STENCH (Sweden) "Stillbirth" CD review by http://www.fobiazine.net

Image

By Asphyx

Probably the most common injuries metalheads is whiplash. Not surprisingly, some concerts with his head spins almost all the time (not counting the breaks between songs, but it is stressed spine bent back when drinking beverages). In the immediate wake of neck pain are different scrapes, strained wrist, bruises, etc. arising from the uncoordinated dance called Hangover. A separate chapter is then wound after the concert, when we return home after a nice action. Sometimes it happens that even a broken heart. That's when you meet at a fest metalistku handsome and she will not invite you to his tent. When listening to you plate Stillbirth risk rather the cervical spine. Us old scourges of the second day will suffer extra trapped back and cramps in the calves.

FETUS STENCH came with his first board in June. They play raw, odsýpající death metal. With nothing to mating and if you have once in a while like a real kick, for you are the clear choice. From the first tuneful songs that you rush into shovels that left standing and will be looking at how the first retiree pension. Rolling over it through you, and even the neighbors about which you've always thought they were deaf as a post, you will cry, let you go with that mess somewhere. All nine songs is certainly not intended for listeners looking for music love and understanding. Here plays hard and brutally. No frills, no time to breath. Just awesome.

But to avoid confusion. It's not just an unorganized chaos. Although simple, the music Fetus Stench clear melodies, good ideas. But the main hub of the plate. Sometimes when listening recall Torture Division, some songs are a little wiped Vomitory. The drums are used very often dvojkopáky. He also sits behind Emil Wiksten from Blood Red Throne and he knows how to face it. Guitars ever death metal from slipping into a dynamic thrash. Everything is made for Friday

barbecue knees-up. You will come across a barrel of beer, girls loaded meat, you look while playing the cook and then everyone will gather in the garden, where they will be partying on Fetus Stench.

Voices from the ranks of critics, who love music more sophisticated, they will certainly say something about the simplicity, that all of this had ever heard, etc. This is all true. I bang but are also deployment charge, "kulervoucnost" and "krutoprísnost". A plate Stilbirth to me directly charged energy. I enjoy and makes me try over and over my neck, toss your hair, threatening on all sides (yeah yeah, I know that I would be at my age tame, and that sometimes look a little funny). You know that, right?

So friends, stand out a little with your legs, lift your right hand and bend. Attention must point fingers cuckold! (If you do not know what it is, remove the CD from the player and remove your hip-hopáckou cap with flat peak. Probably read a bad article!) Between chin and chest let smaller gap (gap ladies themselves enunciate after all here are my knowledge a bit limited). Turn the volume right, what's going on. Start nod his head. Try to catch the rhythm. Physically fitter can jiggle the knees ...

Then it's up to you and the Fetus Stench.

SOUTHWICKED (U.S. / Europe) "Death's Crown" CD review by http://www.fobiazine.net

Image

By Asphyx

Old dogs new tricks You can not teach. Still the same and will bark if they learned to retrieve until now, it had already enrolled. I love old dogs. One knows what to expect from them. I do not bite too. They are not needed. Allen West is already really old RAFANI. As a young used to play the guitar in bands Obituary, Six Feet Under, Massacre.

This year it is running and got caught again with his new band SOUTHWICKED presented nine old school Death Metal Flake. Take place in the middle of rolling pace. Obituary and good old master feel of each song. You will be rocking to the beat and remember eighties. In my experience, it is the board's Death Crowns great backdrop to work on the computer.

It begins with a classic intro. It sounds like an excerpt from a horror movie. Death's Crown. Scream and great party can begin. First things first you Southwicked roll out slowly. Then a moment of tension. Cymbal. And it's there. Old school gets going and carcass it is impossible to stop. Craving for Blood. Here's the first bit of Allen play with guitar. Followed by a murmur. Killing Spree. Thrash basis. Here Sven demonstrates that he has dynamite in his throat. This chorus out of your head just not drive out. The Phantom Prince. Agile thing. As done for an afternoon beer in the afternoon. Graveyard of Bones. Again it poured as a lorry unloading stones from a quarry in the afternoon shift. Rumbled simple theme. Charming Karma. Here I would point out the drums. You will be home to the drum

everything will be in reach of your hands, legs, and maybe even the head. Green River Killing Fileds. If you ever hear this song live, I'll climb up the wall. Odsýpající fast death metal anthem. Delicacy. The Only Living Witness. Recurrent depressive riff. Engraved under your skin and stays there for ever and ever.

If you like old Obituary, focus your eyes on this band. Old dogs have once again shown that it simple. Excellent sound production. The board has tremendous strength. Energy from these pancakes radiate in all directions. It is clear that they will be accused staromilství. No progression. Just a great deal of honest old death metal. And it is not enough. Old dogs can not chew properly. Although not as frantic as in his youth, but it zkušeneji. Fair board.

MAAX (U.S.) "Unholy Rock & Roll" DIGI CD review by http://www.nocleansinging.com

Image

By Islander

I don’t know any actual zombies, reanimated corpses, or other manifestations of the walking dead. Not personally. But I can imagine that when they congregate among themselves to get shit-faced and party like the fucking ghouls they are, they’re crankin’ the new album by Maax.
I’ve been fumbling around trying to decide on a genre label for this music. As I listened to the first track, “Coldest Steel”, I was thinking “death ‘n’ roll”. But as I moved deeper into the grisly vomit-rocket of this album, that didn’t seem to fit. Later, I thought about “thrash ‘n’ roll”, because most of the songs do sound like a breed of thrash, but “thrash ‘n’ roll” really doesn’t capture the gory filth that pervades the music.
“Slut-fucking black thrash ”n’ roll”? I suppose that could work. “Alcoholic heavy metal hellfire”? Yeah, that has possibilities. “Entombed meet Motorhead, get blasted, and then dress up in the freshly flayed skin of the just dead and start jamming”? That’s getting closer. But I finally decided that the band itself nailed the description in the title of the sixth track: “Rot and Roll”.
Yes, there’s plenty of filth on Unholy Rock N Roll — distorted, buzzsaw guitars spinning with greedy voraciousness; blasting rock drum rolls and gut-busting bass lines; headbang-worthy hammer-riffs; feverish guitar solos that erupt like a rampant viral outbreak; and gruesome vocals that sound like they’re being vomited up from someplace far lower than the stomach. Put it all together and you get a kind of diseased thrash without the annoying classic-thrash vocals. In other words, sweetness!
As nasty as all the songs are, a big part of what makes this album such a kick to hear is the variety within it. There’s definitely a healthy dose of putrifying party-thrash (“Maax” is a good example), but in the latter half of the album, the music takes a pronounced turn toward black metal. “Overthrone” is a corpse-grinding motherfucker of BM malevolence, and “Black Thrash Em All” lives up to its name: thrash ‘em into mincemeat and let Satan sort ‘em out. And “Deliverer” is as grim and serious as a heart attack. starting as a death ‘n’ roll crusher and then becoming thoroughly charred.
The only slow song on the album is “Purge of Depravity”, but don’t worry: Even that song is just as disturbed as everything else. It sounds like the rambling mantra of a homeless person, accompanied by unhinged guitar noise.
Maax (pronounced “May-axe”) is from Indiana, and Unholy Rock N Roll is their second album. It’s out now and available in digi-CD format from Abyss Records or via digital download from iTunes and Amazon mp3. Link to the band’s Facebook page can be found below.
If you have any zombie friends you’re planning to visit, this album would make a nice housewarming gift

WAN (Sweden) "Wolves of the North" CD review by http://www.metalteamuk.net

Image

By Luci Herbert

Wolves. Agh, they’re everywhere! In the throne room, and now they’ve roamed their way to the north. This Swedish trio make no pretence as to where their influences lie, and they take a very old school approach to things in terms of songwriting and production. Expect a pretty fast and full on aggressive assault, raw and unpolished and with production caked in mud and with plenty of reference to Bathory and early Mayhem. This album is a bit of a dark horse (or should that be dark wolf) – there are some very strong tracks here and an appeal that really didn’t come across to me on the first few listens but after 5 or 6 plays I begin to see this as being a rather good album.
‘13 Sons Of The Devil’ blurts in with no time to waste, the drums are insanely fast and everything sounds pretty damn unpleasant in the good way. There’s a slight deathly edge to this in places and I detect a hint of early Death and a bit of Possessed in the dirty riffage and even the vocal delivery which is sort of a guttural rasp and have that reverb that makes it sound as though they are being spewed out in a hollow, rusty steel tunnel. ‘Hadanard’ slows down the pace and things all get a bit dark and threatening with a hell of a swagger driving this one along.
The riffs are crude and simplistic but nevertheless portray the right sort of atmosphere I look for in black metal. ‘Kingdom Of Wan’ is particularly speed focussed and kicks up a real hellish furore, before slowing down into a fierce and monstrously heavy march layered with some demonic gurgles to add to the whole thing nicely. ‘Wargoat’ is broken up with a slow, ominous pacing that seems to drag and drag before picking back up again for a quick march to the finish line. ‘Ursinnets Begar’ has some razor sharp riffs that sound sick as fuck and the acrid fury of ‘Wolves Of The North’ brings to mind the black thrash stylings of Nifelheim.
‘Rapid Satan’ is a short sharp blast that contains some rather comical lyrics glorifying Satan – all very clichéd stuff indeed and highly unintelligent. This is followed by a heavy metal Am I Evil march to the ‘Rise Of The Antichrist’ that’s another slow-paced, sinister sounding exercise and there’s a bulging bassline ascending from the roots of ‘Ulvhall’ which definitely gives off a threatening aura. Wolves Of The North offer nothing original, but this is a solid album with some great tracks and recommend this to anyone who likes their black metal old school.

CHAOSSWORN (Sweden) "Chalice of Black Flames" CD EP review by http://www.infernalmasquerade.com

Image

By Dark Emperor

Formed under the moniker of Creeping Death, the band changed names to Chaossworn in 2009. As a promising but underachieving band they released 3 demos and 1 EP before changing names, now with “Chalice of Black Flames” the band is unleashing three powerful songs of pure chaotic Swedish Death/Black Metal.
If you love bands like Dissection, Einherjer and Naglfar, then you will love what Chaossworn brings to the table in this short but sweet EP. While some people might argue that ‘there is nothing new’ presented in “Chalice of Black Flames”, but there is nothing wrong about ‘similar but good’. Because of the lack of releases that feature this Swedish Death/Black sound, we think that Chaossworn deserves a chance in the spotlight since their music is spot on in every single level.
The band starts up this EP with the epic “Crowned and Winged”, a song that features powerful and catchy riffing, paired with hellish vocals and tight drumming. This song immediately had us in headbang-mode since it’s been a while we’ve heard something with this intensity and melody.
Having no time to spare, the band also makes a strong impression with their second song: “Bringer of the Storms”. Featuring a faster pace and more brutal drumming, this song can easily be passed as Marduk or even Dark Funeral if it had more ‘extreme singing’. Closing the EP we got “Chalice of Black Flames”, another powerful piece that also hits harder on the Symphonic Black Metal side of things because of its brutal riffing, massive drumming and an interesting atmosphere.
Mastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound, this album sounds like any big-budget release and will blow your eardrums out if you crank it up to 11. The only complaint that we can have about this release is that is very short, but other than that, we hope to listen more from this powerful band.

ANGREPP (Sweden) "Warfare" DIGI CD review by autothrall

Image

By autothrall

I don't need no corpse paint to know how to rock

Sweden has long exceeded its quota of producing great bands, but I don't think anyone had the guts to pass Angrepp the memo, so here they arrive with a debut album of flak-jacket, artillery gunning black metal with a huge debt to the classic, barbaric thrash of bands like Hellhammer and Bathory. Similar to Horned Almighty's latest album Contaminating the Divine (which is excellent), this is a band who know exactly how to rock, and they prove that the ability to write fairly simple riffs with a punk attitude has not yet been over saturated, since I found the majority of the material here to be both engaging and entertaining, great for a night out with your friends: that is, if your friends wear spiked armbands and chain-smoke the joints and bones of angels.

But what makes Warfare slightly more impressive than the average shakedown are the brief segues into more eerie riffing territory, somewhat reminiscent of how, on their past 4-5 albums, Norway's Satyricon have manifested their style. Songs like "Dead and Destroyed" and "Firebrand" excel in this area, the former with some huge rocking rhythms that pan out in morbid grooves and excellent leada work; the latter exploding into a grim melodic black rhythm past the half-way mark. "Rape, Kill, Rock n Roll" also segues into this interesting bridge in which a chug rhythm plays alongside some writing doom notes, then erupting into a modern Satyricon styled power groove.

If you've not had enough of that rock style in your black metal, this album's a very pleasant surprise, sure to win all the margin walking fans of black and punk or black/thrash, provided they have no gripes with a cleaner tone, because Warfare is pretty pro sounding, eschewing most of the filth and chagrin of many similar bands, and recorded by Dan Swanö. Almost all of the songs rock, especially those above and the hammer title track, the punk explosion of "Legions Arise", the stoppy breakdown to "Dictator" or the rampant thrashing black that is "For Now I Have Risen".

The riff writing is not complex, but Angrepp requires no overkill or exhibition of their individual instrumental proficiency to impress the listener, because they rock like a bomber over an infantry theater, unchallenged and reigning death and fire upon the grunts below. Very likely to impress fans of thrash, grind and hardcore in addition to the more punk-inspired black metal, so this is one young act that should very well see their star rising before long.

ENTRENCH (Sweden) "Inevitable Decay" CD review by http://www.metalpsalter.com

Image

By Chris

Swedish thrash metal is usually lost in a mired mixture of death and black metal these days, but not to be forgotten or outdone Entrench attempts to help thrash metal force its way back into the Scandinavian forefront.

Inevitable Decay is, almost immediately, total and complete Kreator worship from the very onset of “As Dawn Breaks”. I won’t go as far as to say this is a bad thing, but should your particular palate be so resistant to such well-crafted, albeit 25-years late thrash you may not be so agreeable because you can immediately recognize Pleasure to Kill all over the place. With that said, you can also here Metallica’s Kill ‘em All in varying areas to a discernable degree. I’ll be honest, I like it and can listen to this style all day long, but as a venturing into the familiar territory of bands like Slayer, Kreator or Sodom it might not resound as easily. The basic blueprints of early 80’s thrash are here and undeniably spot-on in tribute or unoriginality, whichever direction you choose to point the band. I do believe that Entrench has a good grasp of the music they produce, even if it is as thin and void of bass-thickness as many of the early contemporaries’ efforts.

What does impress me are the vocals, which don’t really follow any one of the aforementioned legends in immediate style. This is more of a throaty gasping style that, while not unfamiliar, doesn’t really put me off at all. What I also enjoy is that the lyrical content doesn’t seem to focus on the ridiculousness of sex with slutty girls, drinking until you’re blind with insipidity and wanton destruction of property that, in short, lends absolute credence to the myriad of disdainful stereotypes we’ve balanced for all of these years. A track like “Debt of Sorrow” about the disadvantaged being used as pawns for self-motivated gains is a really interesting and brave concept; in this day and age no one tackles social issues the way they would gangbanging some drunken female on a storeroom floor, only to then vomit in union on her (yes, those lyrics exist). Then you get the very basic lyrics of “Into Oblivion” and feel that you have the better of both worlds in the social-issue aspect brought to the attentive masses and the low-brow dead-crying-as-Hell-awaits-you punch that balances the scales nicely. I guess in that regard there’s something for everyone if you like the baseline thrash movement to have no added flair for effect. These guys plugged in, went for it, produced a severely generational thrash metal effort, and I think it’s definitely worth hearing. There are some great riffs and breakdowns all over, especially in “Doubt What’s Left”. This is where the vocalist channels a bit of Scream Bloody Gore-era Chuck Schuldiner, but without complete and utter pilfering.

As I lightly mentioned, the production is decent, nothing terrific, but for this type of era-conscious metal music it’s not overly distracting or even bothersome. True thrashers and ragers from the day will understand and embrace the tonal inequities that make the music so enjoyable in that simplicity.

I won’t tell you to make this a top priority if you’ve already got all of the Kreator from the early 80’s and bands of a similar ilk, but don’t easily dismiss these guys either. They’re actually paying attention to the core values of the medium and trying to bring back some realism and integrity to thrash as opposed to the hundreds of bands popping up now thinking they have what it takes to replicate the original feel. That’s not happening, boys so you can move on to the next silly rehash. In that case, Entrench is a happy alternative to the weightlessness of this nu-thrash refuse.

DAEMONICUS (Sweden) "Deadwork" CD review by D.O.A. Magazine

Image

By DH

Fucking OLD-SCHOOL Swedish Death Metal played with power and conviction, Deadwork is the sophomore release from DAEMONICUS and shows improvement in all areas over their debut, Host of Rotting Flesh (2009). Guitars are low-tuned and meaty with a real early GRAVE, DISMEMBER vibe, and the vocals of Stefan Hagstrom will rumble your speakers enough to register on the Richter scale. Tracks like “A Dead Work of Art”, “Embracing her Remains” and “We Feast on your Flesh” take the Swedish Death Metal sound almost into Gore Metal territory but still remain true to the roots of the scene. Throw in some creepy-as-fuck cover art by Daniel Devilish and you have a compelling purchase for fans of Swedish Death Metal insanity.

The GARDNERZ (Sweden) "It All Fades" CD EP review by http://www.metalwave.it

Image

By Karmator

Again we speak of a Scandinavian band, exactly from the south of Sweden. Born just 5 years The Gardnerz we offer a modern doom death with this EP "It All Fades". Also have to make use of the recording contract with Abyss Records, it is expected, therefore, an interesting album. Unfortunately this is not so, in fact we are quite out of place with the opening of "Do not Look Back". Rhythm according to my modest opinions, including a death / thrash 80 years, back when everything was to be born. A tone of voice that convinces them in the more driven than in quieter but that have little to do with doom metal. Even those moments when Niclas is delighted with the clean is slightly out of tune and totally unrelated with the melody. "A Horrible Disease" instead seems to take a different turn. Beautiful rhythm parts of distorted guitar and electric, it really creates a great atmosphere I say ambient, Niclas only fails to really mix everything.Unfortunately, his vocal timbre is not suitable at any time, or at least the approach has had on this record. At number 3 we find an interesting surprise, the acoustic version of "Transilvanian Hunger" of the legendary Darktrhone. Not only is reinterpreted in a really amazing and impressive, with acoustic guitars and nothing else, but it is also actually sung by a woman. Unfortunately I could not find any info on the singer in question, but be aware that this cover has nothing to do with the original, really exciting. Returning to the planet The Gardnerz, we proceed with the title track, which just changes the sound so far proposed, but only makes it slightly more death. Unfortunately I have to say how much they have described in their bio, I can only accept the fact that their music there is a moment of doom, but its patchy. But perhaps finally towards the end find their way, "Melatonin" best expresses their vision of a kind in my opinion one of the finest metal environment. This time the heavy growl of the Nile Niclas fits perfectly, but the gap clean. That said, the dark atmosphere and heavy exchange with other more melodic and northern, taking up typical rounds of Swedish folk. But still slow and full of dark energy. Closes "Erasing Bad Specimen" that still falls on a tharsh / death old school, so nothing new to say, unfortunately.
What can I say? is a bit 'a mix, it's not clear what they want to propose. If the Carcass death or doom. If a death / thrash 80's or their own personal style grain. There is much, too much confusion and the vocal talents of Niclas repeat for the umpteenth time, they do not fit properly forever, which is a shame because it ruins a lot of the atmosphere created by the music. In my opinion they should decide what to do and make a clear decision. This EP leaves me perplexed.

BANE (Serbia) "The Acausal Fire" DIGI CD review by http://www.metalwave.it

Image

By Karmator

Let's take care of a band of Eastern Europe, but very close to us. We in Serbia to review the latest record release of Bane, Satanic Death Metal band in recent years has become a great success, serving as one of the best in the underground. This "The Acasual Fire" is proposed in the best way, both technically and lyrically. Brutality that has no end, except for one instrumental song truly remarkable. After an intro I would say medieval time for action with "The End of Humanity", which from the title imposes itself perfectly to the extreme ideas of the band. Blast, cold and vicious guitars, vocals heartbreaking us into this satanic disk. A great mix of work needs emphasizing, feel perfectly all the tools and the battery does not seem at all "resampled" from the computer, so perfect, natural sounds, which are essential to give the album plus a death. "In Endless Silence" keeps the grain Nordic, adding more melodic whole. It 'truly remarkable and valuable the atmosphere that they have created an album that finally does not get bored. "As Chaos Rises" has been unrelenting in martellarci the meninges and timpani, with more nuances very inspired by modern Behemoth, Synth as background and use of the growl / scream. Marko the skin is really a tireless animal, no doubt. The record is kept of time between 220 and 260 bpm, never taking a minute, "Light the Black Flames" or "World of Desolation" are really Avalanche at full speed destroying everything he happens on the way. Essentially the disc does not change, the sounds and melodies as they are still melodic not change much, but the whole, is the way in which they are played that makes it incredibly impact, and I can not imagine these guys live! ! Speaking of the above-mentioned instrumental "Entering the Sphere Paradox" is a reworking of the track intro that helps us in a fictional to take down the last sip of this poisonous album called "Night's Blood". The closure is worthy of the name of the band. A bled directly on the gums, which leaves us mute and the same makes us contemplate the magnificence of this "The Acasual Fire". Gentlemen, we have a discone, for lovers of the extreme will be manna from heaven. There scotteremo hands just to keep the album cover, an excellent album from every point of view.

DAEMONICUS (Sweden) "Deadwork" CD review by Chaos Vault

Image

By Pathologist

And another outstanding material from last year to review. This time we decided to enter in my eardrums vibrate pleasant auditory team Daemonicus who serenaded all the devotees of what the Swedish second full length album called "Deadwork".

Swedish Death Metal school has something wonderful and how that knowledge was taught metal in college for sure there would be a statement at the first lecture. And in my player and the heart is a special place for teams from these areas and / or teams who play as teams from these regions hehe. "Deadwork" This piece really well-played death metal zajezdzajacego I Dismember on the one hand and on the other hand, Asphyx. Dutch especially stinks issue of "The Feast on Your Flesh" with a distinctive style przytupem "you wave cupola whore!". Generally well-composed song. I have on this record yet another favorite, which is for this disc what cherry to the cake. "Inhabited", because of the question is a real firecracker death metal vocals for major and zajebistym idea of the shape of the track. Anyway, the vocals on this album really give advice and throat person deserves laurke of handmade wax crayon drawn Pentos and two crosses in the right direction. In fact, there is, what is more to write about.

Do you feel like a piece of Death Metal zajebistego to Provide yourself with this record. For me spin it more than once.

ERUPTED (Sweden) "In the Grip of Chaos" CD review by http://www.snoozecontrol.be

Image

By GothicBowie

Erupted is a fairly young Death Metal band from sweden. Formed from the ashes of several other projects in 2010 they released last year (2012) a first album in the grip of Chaos . We start with the good news, the known aspects of the genre are present on this album. A touch-called old school death metal with the familiar ingredients would lead us to be able to start In The Grip Of Chaos a top plate to mention. However, it remains at that first impression disappears and the sound too much in a chaos of sounds.

Now, we do like chaos. Cheeky tricks and deep growls are simply an aspect that is so typical of the genre. The feeling of intensity that we usually feel when listening to albums in this style, we now also have to some degree. Only thing wrong with the production. Trop is too much is a proverb that applies here.

Do not get us wrong. The pure, raw voice is added to the album. Also store them nice clawing and growling around. But the whole rages like a train over you in itself would also be positive but it feels that this time not. And that's where the shoe pinches. The abundance of sounds that come to you do not have the impact that they have. It seems that the instruments together to try on classes and protrude above the other, this can obviously not be the intention.

We are sure, however, provided the necessary experience on stage and tinkering with the sound that everything will be fine. Prove that the last two numbers Hell Recreated and Faces of Death of a previously unreleased demo. It's like starting band difficult to own way, we are therefore convinced, given the positive sides to The Grip of Chaos , and that are not underestimated vocal range and ditto tasty without reaching guitars, there is a future for Erupted . For that reason we want the album and the band totally depreciate. The base to get there is there, still little work on the decoration and it will all be fine Erupted.

The GATES OF SLUMBER (U.S.) "...the Awakening" CD review by destructive-music

Image

By STEVE EARLES

Without a doubt, The Gates of Slumber are one of the truest metal bands of all time. These are men that appreciate the glory that is Black Sabbath’s mighty ‘Born Again’, that realise that Dio really is a god, and that Mob Rules should be the national anthem.

I saw The Gates of Slumber support Cathedral on their last Irish appearance in 2010, and they were excellent, I interview them too and they really were modest unassuming fellows, united in their love of metal.

They’d just released ‘Hymns of Blood and Thunder’ on Rise Above (something that actually got stick about! What is it about the internet that makes every coward feel he is suddenly the Terminator?). I reviewed ‘Hymns of Blood and Thunder’ when it came out and I still listen to it today, a fabulous heavy metal album (not as doomy as previous releases but The Gates of Slumber were never just a doom metal band, they encompass all the worthy aspects of metal, and besides, the follow up album The Wretch was total doom, I’d like to see them go back to the more up-tempo diversity of Hymns of Blood and Thunder for their next release), ‘Hymns of Blood and Thunder’ incorporated influences from Priest and Metallica amongst the St Vitus and Trouble influences, along with a superb production, great songs, great playing, it’s an album every metal fan should own).

So, to the reissue of ‘The Awakening’, awesome from start to finish, from the speed of the title track, to the Saint Vitus worship of Resurrection of the Underworld, this shows that the Gates of Slumber were always world-standard, (I feel that having someone who believes in them and loves all worth music like Lee Dorrian is a great plus factor in their higher profile, certainly if I see a record with the Rise Above logo it rarely disappoints.).

Just listen to the sound of ‘The Judge’, this is how metal should be, powerful and uplifting.

Stirring stuff, and I have no hesitation in recommending it whole heartedly.

CORROSIVE CARCASS (Sweden) Inteview by The Wizard of Noz

Image

By Noswal Nekiv

1. Start off by introducing yourself and what is your role in your band?

My name is Christian Kanto and I play guitars in Corrosive Carcass, I mainly work as the contact person with fans and interviews like with you guys. Of course I also write some songs for the band too.

2. According to your biography it took awhile to get your first official album released, was it difficult to stay motivated for so long? How has the album been received by critics and fans?

From the beginning there were just some guys playing music together for fun, but the band became more serious sometime about 2007 when vocalist Jonathan Sjöblom joined the band and we recorded the first demo that unfortunately never got released in any physical format. 2009 I (Christian Kanto) joined the band after some member changes, I learned some old songs and we started to write new songs that was to become our next demo called ''Rot.In.Pieces''. That was our first official demo that was released in 2010 on CD-R and spread all over the world to death metal fans and record labels. Soon after Abyss Record contacted us to offer a record deal, so 2 years after the first official demo to our release of the debut album is not a long time.

3. Tell me a little about the other members of the band? And do any of you play in other bands?

We all share many intrests like old school death metal (obviously), retro video games and movies. They are a bunch of funny guys that enjoy just fooling around and having a good time. We all have done some recordings at home like solo projects but no one is playing in another band full time. Sometimes I play as an stand in musician for the black metal band Patronymicon.

4. Tell me a little about the releases you have and where they are available for purchase?

Our debut album ''Composition of Flesh'' is available to order directly from us as both Cassette and CD.
Or you can buy it from Abyss Records website and many other online stores. At the moment we are working on the last details for an LP of this album so all you fans that must have it on LP be patient! Its out very soon.

5. Are you a touring band or are you a studio only band? If you are a touring band list some of your best shows so far, or if you are a studio only band explain why that is?

Yes we play live, but we never done a tour. Best gig so far must be Getaway Rock Festival in Gävle, Sweden. A big metal festival with many good bands. Next gig will be with the kings of doom Candlemass and we really look forward to that.

6. Do you have any amusing stories from when you recorded your album or when you where on the road?

The time in the studio was kind of funny, our sound guy was drunk almost all the time. At least we got pretty much the sound we wanted considering the cirumstances with our funny and drunk sound engineer.

7. Name some of the bands that have influenced your playing style and then name some of the bands that people think influenced you but didn't?

My personal biggest influence must be the 3 first albums from Death and for the Swedish death metal point of view it must be Dismember. I have read in some reviews of our album that some people think that we sound much like bands that I never even heard of.

8. What are some of your all time favorite albums?

Thats a hard question but I will try to name a few. This is my personal list and the 10 first albums that came up in my head.

Slayer - Seasons in the abyss
Sepultura - Schizophrenia
Testament - The new order
Exodus - Bonded by blood
Death - Leprosy
Judas Priest - Painkiller
Kreator - Pleasure to kill
Morbid Angel - Blessed are the sick
Candlemass - Nightfall
Dismember - Like an everflowing stream

9. Name some of the all time worst or overated Metal albums in your opinion?

I think that Pantera is an overated band and it just got even more overated after Dimebags death. Also all that nu-metal shit and all the mainstream crap suck, I don't even want to memorize there stupid names that has some kind of meaning to it.

10. Let everyone know what the band has planned for the future.

We recently recorded a 4 song EP that we plan to release probably this year, its going to be killer! We are also writing some new material for our second album. As I said earlier we will play with Candlemass and just try to find more gigs. Many people might think thats easy when living in Sweden but its not. Death metal is still underground and it always will be.

Thanks and cheers!

RADIATION SICKNESS (U.S.) "Reflections of a Psychotic Past" CD review by destructive-music

Image

By StormDweller

For starters, I wouldn’t call this offering Death metal. I mean, this is stylistically similar to it at times, but it isn’t on the same level as Cannibal or Deicide. Nowhere near that good. The Indiana-born group Radiation Sickness have a sound that takes some influence from Death metal and smashes it together with a lot of Punk and a little bit of Thrash. At times, I believe I detect some old-school Hardcore in the mix as well…

The album I am reviewing is “Reflections of a Psychotic Past”, which is Radiation’s 2012 release. I looked these guys up online and discovered a bit of history on them; they originally got together in the late ’80s, put out a series of demos and some EPs, and then split up in 1990. Supposedly, the band got back together in the mid-’90s to put out another demo, minus the original vocalist, but I haven’t been able to track down any information on this. Anyway, getting back to this album, I have to say that “Reflections” isn’t terrible. It isn’t what I’d call GOOD, but it’s not all bad either. Most of the songs are short (borderline Grindcore short) and aggressive. I don’t mean aggressive in the same way that Thrash metal is, oh no; Thrash is a pissed-off, automatic rifle-toting Marine, while this is more like an empty blender set on high. Still, this album didn’t make me cringe (always a good thing), and the production is decent, which is a definite checkmark in the positive column. I’ve heard some really crappy mixes that’ve brought otherwise decent albums down. I know that there are others who feel that production isn’t a huge part of what makes a metal album good, and in some cases, I whole-heartedly agree! But usually the production for recently released extreme metal of any kind is expected to sound at least listenable. Thank the Gods that this album does!

As I said, this is a decent release. The songs are mainly fast-paced and short, but they’re not quite as chaotic as Grindcore. If you need something to compare Radiation Sickness to, the band that they’re closest to stylistically is Macabre. Then main difference between the two is that Radiation don’t have as much melody and don’t incorporate sing-song choruses about serial killers eating and bathing with dead men into their music (a loving reference to Macabre’s “Dahmer”). The vocalists even sound similar! That whiney, semi-high wail is something that I’d only ever heard Macabre do, so I thought that they were the only ones who really used it . I guess I was incorrect there. Ah well, you learn new things every day! Because all of the songs are short in length and similar in sound, I honestly couldn’t decide on any definite gems for this release. It’s not that any of the tracks suck, it’s just that after a while, the album sounds like it’s one long song, if you follow my meaning.

After many a listen to “Reflections of a Psychotic Past” by Radiation Sickness, I feel comfortable in giving it 7/10. This wasn’t bad. These guys definitely have potential. I hope they can tap into it on future releases! I bet these guys could be SO brutal it they wanted to! But music is art, and art is about what the artist wishes to express, not the critics. I wish Radiation Sickness luck in their future, whatever it may hold!
