Welcome to the darkened recesses of old school Death Metal. Firmly rooted in those hallowed traditions, we have one deceptively young band that twist the sickening riffs and patterns of old even further, in their neverending worship of the extreme. The early offerings from bands like Morbid Angel, Autopsy, Pestilence, Death, Cancer, Gorguts and Morgoth are the reference point for this depraved group of individuals from Newcastle, U.K., named Horrified. Formed back in 2012, evolving from a one-man studio project and featuring current members from other established acts in the North East Metal scene (Plague Rider, Risen Prophecy and Winds Of Genocide), Horrified are definitely a band to watch out for. They burst onto the underground scene with a genuine penchant for the rotten, uncompromising and mouldy Death Metal of old that we wholeheartedly support through Memento Mori. "Descent into Putridity", which is only the band´s debut full-length album, displays everything you wish your Death Metal possesses: maggot-infested tunes, encrusted riffs, wailing solos, pummeling drums and viciously demented vocals à la Van Drunen/Tardy, all of which team up with the vibrant urgency that this genre requires as a terrific reminder of why people fell in love with Death Metal so long ago. In order to help capture the raw and blood-dripping essence of this fresh band, "Descent into Putridity" was mastered by Javier Felez at the already famed Moontower Studios in Barcelona and features some original and morbid artwork provided by Vincent Helmkamp (Necromaniac ´zine). GODDEFIED - Inhumation of Shreds (Complete Recordings 1991-2009) CD [MEMENTO-XXXV]
Sunlight Studio. Tomas Skogsberg. Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal pedal. You just can´t wrong with those premises when it comes to old school Swedish Death Metal. And that´s exactly what you´ll get from Goddefied, an obscure yet legendary act hailing from the small city of Karlskoga, in the province of Värmland, about 200 Km away from Stockholm. Formed back in 1990 under the monicker Enshrined, Goddefied, along with God Macabre, Wombbath, Nirvana 2002, Abhoth and Toxaemia (amongst many others) belonged in a 2nd wave of Swedish bands that drew their influences from the seminal recordings of Nihilist/Entombed, Dismember and Carnage, and helped establish and perpetuate what would become one of the strongest scenes in the history of Death Metal, as well as one of its most recognizable and particular sub-genres soundwise. This compilation of all the material that Goddefied ever recorded is indeed a small yet worthy piece of Death Metal history itself. From the raw-sounding "Assembly of the Damned" demo recorded in an amateur-ish local studio in 1991 (only 100 copies pressed) under the band´s early inception as Enshrined, to the 2009´s "Remnants of the Art" EP on Blood Harvest, and through the cult and highly sought-after 1993´s "Abysmal Grief" EP on Wild Rags Records (actually recorded at Sunlight Studio and produced by Mr. Skogsberg), Goddefied take you on a nostalgia trip back to a time when the "buzzsaw" guitar tone reigned supreme and thousands of worldwide fans gave in to Swedish Death Metal. Featuring no remastering at all (only a slight volume retouch has been executed for an even more pleasurable listening experience), and also including liner notes by the band, some previously unreleased songs and alternative takes on some of the band´s classic tunes, and a fantastic artwork and layout by Cesar Valladares, "Inhumation of Shreds (Complete Recordings 1991-2009)" is definitely a must for all fans of über-classic Swedeath to eagerly enjoy: the shreds have been inhumated for thee!!!
