I'm looking for a special effect on vocals, which is generally used to emphasize the introduction of vocals and sounds like a swallowing of the first syllable, or like a reverse reverb. It's hard to explain, so here's an example between 0:11 and 0:15 :

Here's another example at 0:54 :

I know it might be a combination of different effects, like a kind of reverb or echo which occurs before the signal. I'm currently experimenting some techniques.

Another slightly different example is "Arise" by Sepultura, from 0:55 to 0:58 :

That Marduk sample is a "reverse gate" effect.

Thank you. I don't think that this option is available on Cool Edit Pro 2, so I'll have to use some tricks in order to achieve it.

Edit: I've just checked on my Tascam Portastudio MKII and there is a Gate Reverb effect. I don't know how to us it, though.

- Apply reverb on signal
- Reverse signal
- Apply fade in or gate

Is this an appropriate method?

That's definitely a reverse reverb effect. I don't really know how they do it, but that's what it is.

Duplicate the vocal track, and then reverse it. Put a reverb plugin on it. Then bounce that down to a new track, and reverse it again. You'll then need to cut it to only have the little part that has the effect you want.

Ok, I achieved what I wanted to on Cool Edit.

But it won't be as easy on the Tascam MKII.
