I've been toying around with EQing a snare similar to Last Days of Humanity sound, but I'm having considerable trouble achieving this. Here is a link to one of their songs if you are unfamiliar with this snare sound:

Could anyone provide me with some advice please? I'm currently using Reaper to mix.

Just a few tips: Don't cut the mids on a snare. It needs mids to punch through the mix. Personally, I add about a 2db bump at around 5000hz to make it sound a bit sharper/brighter. You can hear it in the link in my sig. Compression is also important.

Thanks for your advice Nex, I'll definitely keep that in mind for my next mixing session. By the way, I'm listening to your track 'Consumption of The Cadaver'. Very cool. Can I ask what instruments/vst's you used for this?

That's a piccolo snare. Start off with samples of that kind (or a regular snare tuned higher), they cut through mixes without much effort.

And you can always cut some lower mids, to get rid of boxiness.

Rhythm guitars were done using the Dirthead VST. Simulates an older Mesa amp. Speaker sim was the Poulin LeCab 2. The guitar was one I built myself, 25.5 inch scale, seymour duncan JB pickup. Drums were done with EZDrummer, and bass is Waves GTR.
