I did some recording a couple days ago, but I had some trouble with my guitar. The low e-string seemed to have a funny buzz when I played it on the higher frets, but the guitar is a cheap piece of shit so I wasn’t to surprised.

Fortunately at band practice last night I found out my singer had bought yet another guitar so I nicked one the epiphones he had lying around. It seems pretty nice, I’m looking forward to trying it out tonight!

I've just about finalized the lyrics for my song. Now I need to rush recording the stuff as fast as I can because some important shit came up. I hope that I don't get sidetracked too much, because I'm rather enjoying myself with this one.

Arghhh. I got assigned to some military-related duty that's going to suck my time for the rest of the month. Rest of this week is going to be make or break for the song.

Just one question, when is this due? is it at the end of the month?

My song has finally been completed, I have to get my bass repaired but I will be working on the rest asap!

well I'll be back home around June 16th... so finally I can actually start on it. I'm still a bit up in the air what it's going to be based on the picture.

Urgh, the computer with all my recording software on it has been taken for repairs and I have no idea when I'm getting it back. Hopefully soon enough to contribute something.

How's everyone getting on? I've bought myself some time for the challenge, though still not sure if I'll be able to accomplish anything before the deadline.

Also, if you can believe it, SLK hasn't submitted anything yet. Which means that most likely there will be some serious deadline extending to do.

I'm gonna re-record mine, I'm not happy with the mix right now, also, I need my goddamn bass repaired from Guitar Center -___- other than that, I like my song very much, it's fast, heavy and has some melodic parts in it.

Haven't had much time to finish mine but I intend to do it in this week, I have the whole idea in my mind which is what matters the most after all.

I’m mostly finished recording. Still need to do vocals and overdub some cock-ups on the guitar tracks. Other than that I’ve been messing around quite a bit with different mixes and effects- I’m going for a wall of sound so I’m trying to get something on that line of big and dense while not getting overly murky and incomprehensible.

First attempt sounded way too clean to fit the concept, so I switched from a nice guitar to a shitty guitar, and I set my guitar down for a few minutes between takes, then use the first take after I pick it up. The sound is more fitting, though it's a bit loose. Doubled each of the two guitar tracks with direct input, and I'll add another layer to each from a mic'd amp if I get a decent pair of headphones before the end of the month.

I already finished my song. It's quite possibly the greatest thing I have ever done in my life, so I'm quite proud about it. The most important thing that I learned while recording it was that singing USPM vocals is probably the most impossibly difficult physical activity for a human being ever, but it was well damn worth it.

I recorded a rough draft of the song and I just need to work out the solo and the outro. Tony and I worked out the concepts and a general idea of what to do, I just need to figure out what will work for it.

Well, my song for this has drifted farther and farther form having a vibe that fits with the picture I got, so I'm gonna have to withdraw from the challenge. This did inspire a new solo project, melding (slightly Blackened) Doom Metal, Post-Punk, Neo-Folk, and a bit of Industrial, though (the song that was gonna be for this being the first song I'll do for this new project).

Ye still have a week to try again though.

3 days to go and I've only received 3 submissions so far, though all three are promising. This challenge is going to get an extension for sure.

I'm thinking about giving it 2 extra weeks, so we'd end on Sunday July 15th. What do you guys say?

I'm pretty much finished with my composition, and will do all with synths and vsts since I don't have the means to record right now, will probably send them in these next days, but won't complain if you pull out an extension.

I'm probably not going to get this done, I've really not been happy with anything I've come up with. I might be able to put something together, but I'm not sure if I'll be happy with it. Which is a bit annoying.

I'm in favor of an extension, since musicians have poor time management skills. I am certainly guilty of this.

I need to record the last section of the song tomorrow, which is a really simple part, but none of the vocals are done. Tony was going to handle the vocals (and he wrote some nice lyrics and handled the conceptual side of things), but he doesn't have reliable internet access at the moment so it's tough to send big files back and forth. Rather than polishing the production, I made it rough since it fits the collage/war concept, so perhaps I'll attempt vocals tomorrow.

I think I'll extend the deadline by 1 week first, so that means that the new deadline will now officially be Sunday July 8th.

I've got 4 submissions until now. We'll see what happens next week. I'm thinking a total of 10 songs would be perfect, but we might have to settle for less in order to keep the challenge from dragging along the whole month.

There aren't any strict rules in place regarding that. Use whatever you see fit, while also considering that this is a songwriting challenge on a metal forum, which is to say that people are mainly expecting at least some metal.
