I've been trying to record some black metal songs but I can't get the guitar tone quite right, I'm going for a kinda summoning sound, any suggestions to do with mixing and types of distortion would be greatly appreciated

Probably not much help, but seeing as nobody else has posted yet it can't be counterproductive. I'm hearing a lot of drive, treble, and reverb. A chorus effect might help to get that kind of airy sound they got going on too.

Lots of gain, not too much mid. That's all I can really say about that.

Lots of gain, very little bass (if any), loads of mids and treble. A Tubescreamer/sim wouldn't hurt either. And of course a shitload of reverb and delay.

Exactly, plus keep in mind that for example if your going for a sound like maybe what Burzum had, when Varg recorded those he went and found the worst amp he could and then recorded because he was saying fuck this "good production." Watch the documentary Until The Light Takes us.

Not exactly. On "Filosofem" he used a fuzz pedal and his brother's stereo amplifier rather than a guitar amp, and he recorded vocals using a cheap headset.

I posted a topic asking for an opinion on my black metal tone if you want to take a listen and I listed the stuff I used for the tone. Most (if not all guitars) have a little switch thing for tone and I find that switch to be handy if your going for a rather, "cold" guitar tone, for lack of a better term.

I recently purchased DIGITECH's "Digiverb"
and it's perfect for reverbs. Around 80$

alot of gain, but you also want to make sure you have good pickups, cheap pickups tend to be pretty sensitive and pick up alot of unwanted notes and sounds when using alot of gain, I can plug my ibanez ijx30 into my spider IV on the insane channel and leaving it sitting there, and if you werent looking at it, you'd think i was playing some sunn O)))
