CorpseFister I suggest a heavily handed bass with a good amp with distortion, there is one called metal bass amp room..I think, it really helps getting a thick heavy tone having that bass. I think that's about half of the tone.

well I kinda fucked Moonpenetrator. I'm supposed to record drums on his song and my laptop died, had to install everything on a new desktop I bought, and had to order a part to make my firepod work on it. So I pretty much shit the bed on that one. I'm still waiting on the part.

I only got my desktop back tuesday and set up finally on wed with the programs.

For the sake of not falling into habits and to stream line the recording process I decided to change my usual work flow (FL and Wavelab) for guitar and bass. Enough people on here use Reaper so I thought I'd give it a go. Seems like a good program, I had no complaints using it and I spent my evening recording. But now when I try to render my tracks to bring back into FL for mixing the tempo is fucked! And like, I can tell the pitch is correct so its not a sample rate issue and Ive tried render with '1x speed' and 'embed project tempo' options but every fucking time it comes out at just over 4 minutes instead of 5! WTF!

I've been wandering the webs for a while but haven't found a solution yet. Not really sure if anyone here knows whats up, but I needed to vent. It was either that or punch a baby.



(edit - 2 hours later): weeelp, it seems I fucked up something to do with a function I dont quite understand called the playback rate, which appears to be independent of the bpm, time code and sampling rate. 6 hours of recording to lay down bass and guitar tracks I was happy with (keep in mind I'm not great at either so I needed 6 hours) is now down the drain. Worse things have happened, but wowza is that demotivating. Seriously though, what the fuck is the point of a time code if it isnt fucking accurate!?! Regardless of how high or low the playback rate is, the fucking project still shows its five minutes long whether it lasts 20 minutes or 20 seconds! What purpose could that possibly serve? I'm sure there was a reaper newbie mistake on my part, but still... what the fuck.

Fuck, I'm not even sure what the fuck that is. I'd probably have to look at it first hand.

First time I've heard of it. Did you play around with the playback rate slider before recording? Double click it and it returns to 1.0 normal value. But yeah that sucks major ass.

I think that the playback rate changed when I imported some samples from FL studio to create a backing track to record to. Why, I don’t know. I doubt I changed it myself, although it is possible I suppose.

The thing I still don’t get is why the tempo and time would reflect inaccurate numbers when you change the playback rate. I assume there must be some reason for it, but I have no idea what that could be. Oh well.

Well, it's the 9th and my partner in crime has yet to record his parts. We finished writing the song together on the 1st day of the challenge, that same night I did up a drum sample and threw it his way to record the guitars. 39? (I think) days in and I've yet to get those guitar parts, and without those I can't really record my vocals or do any more synth work. I'll badger him as much as possible but things aren't looking so good.

Weak. I'm attempting to steel my resove to re-record all my tracks from last night when I get home from work today. It's not the most exciting prospect.

I'm literally just about to record the last vocal tracks, then I just need to finish the mix and send.

It doesn't help that I suck at writing lyrics, so I just scribbled down some bullshit about Cthulhu. And I hate my own voice. Ah well.

Okay, I've discovered that my song have a kinda fucked up tuning (at some parts) cuz of extremely loose strings. Anyway, I hope it won't affect the whole song.

Whoopsies, I've been a total slacker on this one. Jotted down some riff ideas forever ago and they never really took off, but then the other day I had some thematic inspiration. Wrote out the whole thing just now. Tomorrow I'll do as much as I can, definitely do the drums and hopefully record maybe the bass and any synths I might have, then I'll probably record the guitars and write lyrics/record vocals Sunday. I'm really not sure how the vocals are gonna turn out just yet. I guess it'll be a surprise!

due to finals, I may not finish my track completely i have all the instruments on their but I might not get to do vocals or do some finishing touches or whatever.

I recorded all of the instruments today, so I should be able to write lyrics and record vocals tomorrow and have the song in on time.

It's not a big deal man, I couldn't even really finish my song, I haven't done vocals, and I have my own distractions like tests and stuff, but I mean, I'm sure I'm not the only one on here dealing with finals, I mean Christmas break is coming and the semester's almost done.

I almost rather deal with finals than with being prevented from recording for 3 weeks... on top of the 3 weeks I was out of town!

Bleh. I was planning on recording all yesterday afternoon, but some unforeseen events ended up taking up all of my time, and today I have a bunch of work to do. It looks like I'm most likely out.

But, I will be continuing to work on my song, and eventually recording it, along with maybe another track or two in the same style for a possible split.

Just finished mixing my track, having a listen on my stereo now, as long as it turned out fine I'll be submitting it very soon.
