Looking for some advice or feedback on some demos you are doing? Looking to get that possible extra nudge to work your way through the final of a release? drop a link here and we'll give you honest opinions on it. You can specify what you need more judgement on... i.e.: 'I need more advice on how to mix this properly' or 'nevermind the production that's demo, I want more feedback on my songwriting.

Hopefully this will get some people more thoughts on their work without it slipping on down the line of threads.

I already did a separate thread for this (which focused more on production) but any additional critical feedback on composition/lyrics/aesthetic for my neofolk / post-rock EP would be most appreciated:

That's funny that I don't even remember your thread. And you know I've probably posted in it. I'll give it a listen when I get home from work.

It's certainly entrancing. There's some lag on the vocal track in some places, it sounds like. But the rest of it sounds great. Overall, I love the atmosphere. Might get me a copy. :)

I've been looking for some Celtic or Irish folk music with a good atmosphere, and this certainly satisfies my thirst.

I just did my first demo song, the production is kind of crap, I got really excited with the Impulses Responses thing and wanted to make something to use them, but didn't took the time to make it sound that great, EZDrummer, midi bass and shitty playing, but I believe that the basic idea of the song is there, thoughts? :)

everything sounds great and crystal in a good way. The first track is a great build up for the rest of the album. You layer things in very well and it all feels to naturally progress without any pacing issues. outside of that... it's not my cup of tea. But good job on it.

since I'm assuming this is more on the songwriting... this sorta reminds me of metalcore not in a bad way. I mean back when that wasn't a terrible term. I say that cause the use of the dissonance and sorta chugging. It really brings me back to 2002-004. And the way the arrangement is kinda of a riff stacking stream of concious type writing. I actually like that far more than standard verse chorus songs. overall I'd like to see this developed fully with real bass playing and tightened up.

Just putting it out here, always nice to hear more opinions.

IntoNevermore, SLK pretty much summed it up on what's good about the song and what can be improved. I agree too, cheers!

Haha, I hopefully won't. I'm more of an instrumental only guy and nowhere near a vocalist, if I get to put some vocals in there it would be from some of my friends, but I won't ask no one until I feel it needs them n_n

Thank you too :D! Also, that's really good man, I enjoyed the whole song and even listened to it several times, the constant riffing taking you to the lead in the middle was a favorite of mine, and everything after just keeps a great mood. It makes me want to listen to the whole record! :D

I believe I'll be posting some more ideas when I record them, great thread n_n

Yeah, it coalesces all the "please give me feedback for my project" threads into one. I suppose we can post things like covers/playthroughs since we've had some threads asking for feedback on those too.

IntoNevermore, thanks dude, the rest of the album is on that bandcamp link or in my sig if you're interested.

Nice idea, I didn't know where to ask for feedback, and didn't want to use promotional section either. So, this is a demo for an online project, I'd like to know what you think about the songs, riffs, etc... Soundwise it has significantly improved since then, so don't focus on production values too much.

Thanks!

Good stuff, TheOldSkull, riffing and vocal patterns and drumming and all that are cool. Production aside, I thought the song could use some more dynamics/variation as certain parts tend to wear themselves out after a while.

OldSkull, your shit sounds incredibly fiendish. Something sinister going on there. The way death metal should sound, in my opinion, without all the random wankery.

Somefella, you already know most of my opinion on your songs, but this one you posted has a nice black/death sound to it.

IntoNevermore, I'm getting very confused by your riff patterns, and I have no idea what the bass is supposed to be doing in some parts. Some of it sounds pretty great, but otherwise I can't really offer any valid feedback.

Thanks anyway :) It needs to tighten up, yes. I'm glad you considered some parts great, hopefully I can make all of it to sound great :D

Thank you guys!

Haven't had much time to listen to the stuff posted here, I'll try at some point. I know Oshiego already, which sounds really professional, with a really tight rythmic section. I watched some of your videos on youtube, Somefella, and listening to your music it definitely shows you've played a lot of Iced Earth, great mastery of those galloping triplets^^

I would love some feedback on our stuff.

There's a couple lyric videos up on our youtube:

And here

There's a dozen blogspot sites with the whole album, feel free to get the whole thing there if you want to hear more.

Hi all and thanks SLK for setting up this thread. I have been lurking here for a while and there's a lot of good music made by people here! The many threads about recording and gear info has been very helpful too.

I recorded a short demo recently and hope to get some feedback on it, it can be found here http://blacksubtropic.bandcamp.com/

Thanks heaps ahead!

You are quite welcome!

What I heard I liked. it was nice and raw but not overtly ass sounding raw.. the proper raw. The riffs and arrangements were good and I enjoyed them. It was much better than I expected it to be. Hell I'll give it another listen later cause I did like it.

I thought the song ideas worked and since it isn't the final mix there isnt much to say about production. I think the playing could use some tightening up since there seems to be a lot going on during the fast parts. Nice groove in the midsection \m/

It is hard for e to appreciate the whole idea without drums, but there are some parts that I enjoyed regardless of the production, I say keep working :)!

Now, I recorded another of my old songs, and I believe this one has a *bit* better produced guitar tone, It is more simple structured by the way, one of my first guitar pro compositions! (I used a bass drop because it was pretty fun and wanted to test that, guess I'm still a core kid).

Thanks man, I'm glad that you liked the demo! I was going for a Drawing Down the Moon and Doom Cult type of rawness there and happy that it sounds proper.

sounds like solid regular black metal riffs. the tone here is very grating. like there is tons of excessive white noise in it. Not in a good way or something that is pleasant to hear.

Yea far too simple, my eyes were rolling back in my heard cause it was exactly 2002 metalcore.. like 5th tier. Nothing that was special. The best part was the 5 seconds at the end of the track. It was so long winded and everything you did in the song you could've done more impactful by condensing it down in a minute.

yea I'd def buy a cd of this. it's actually better produced/sounding than both of those albums. It's good though/.

need to learn how to make links.

Also it's rather sloppy. I can tell the passion is there. but really I can't listen to entire songs because it's a chore from how sloppy it's played. Even in the tracks that are just guitar.

Thanks, at least you liked 5 seconds of it, that's something :) I recorded the guitar pro file I had from years ago, I guess is time to update it.

Sounds like Hell Awaits at first in Nuclear Genocide. Not bad stuff, vocals came across as relatively flat at first, solo was mixed a little too low for me. Did get fairly samey feeling after a while, didn't feel rhythmically interesting, but the band has a nice overall sound and just as I am writing this a helpful transition is coming along. Solid. I'd like to hear how a sophomore release goes in terms of ironing some things out.

Way to rip off Emperor haha. Anyway the drums sound a tad too muddy/boomy for me (to the point where it detracts a little bit from the music). Anyway decent vocals and riffing and it's got a nice groove going for it but tends to get a bit draggy like the above said, not a lot of parts sound inspired. You manage to capture somewhat of an evil vibe though, which not everyone can do and is something I definitely like. Executed competently too.

Btw I'm referring to the first song, Nuclear Genocide.

I know it's been out and on my signature for a couple months now, but I would love to get some more feedback on my first demo with Spirit Division. Comments on the performance and production are certainly welcome, but I don't get as much feedback on songwriting as I would like.

I love Emperor lol, but we are not playing black metal in any sort of way so it's not such a rip off haha. Thanks to Apteronotus and to you for the feedback, if you want I can e-mail you the album.

BTW, I'm the guitar player :v

I'm greatly motivated now!

CloggedUrethra - Thanks for making the list. The weekend is here and I got to check out more stuff posted here.

Syntek - This sounds very good and the production is amazing. This is especially impressive after reading how you recorded it. Crikey!

Somefella - Killer stuff! The riffs are great and even the melodic parts are barbaric.

doktersatan - I like my metal like this, do post the next mix!

Hey guys, would like some feedback on my band's demo in my signature. I mostly got positive criticisims by friends, but I would to have some "neutral" thoughts about it.
Thanks.
