I partook in the Guitar Center Drum Off tonight. Didn't make it through, but I wasn't expecting I would anyway; my style is different from what the judges typically look for, and I was surrounded by gospel drummers that are a lot better than me in many ways. Still, I got a very good video of my solo that I'll post here when I upload it tomorrow. I was so in the zone during the solo itself that I wasn't fully aware of what I was doing most of the time, so there's a lot of the solo that was genuinely surprising to me. Think of it like Buddy Rich shred worship with scattered blasting and double bass strewn throughout.

I wanted to pick a new band name but I discovered there is already an artist with that name on Last.fm, but with only 119 listeners. Should I care? I had the idea for years.

last.fm doesn't mean much in the world nor is it a good indication of a popularity of a band. you should investigate this other band more than that just to make sure before you go forward with it.

http://www.centralctcommunications.com/ ... 48a3e.html

A local paper up here did an article about the Drum Off, and look at who the featured player is. Quite cool to have my first spotlight as a solo performer. Now to just get the paper itself so I can show my future grandchildren that I was kinda semi-famous-ish once upon a time.

EDIT: Fixed broken link.

That and cock.

I have an album to review, which I admittedly haven't done more than skimmed. Also, the first single for the Warhammer 40K black metal band I'm playing bass for is due to be mastered in a couple of days, pretty excited to release it.

Me too. And the Bolt Thrower inspired band... speaking of which, SLK you should go audition for 'em, now that Kiddie is gone (RIP).

Never even thought about it. I figured they would just move in one of their friends from another band into the spot. I'd love to be in Bolt thrower.

I've got a project going called Decaying Continuum. I just finished recording the fourth song for a planned 5-song demo. I'm having trouble with a local drummer and vocalist who agreed to do this project over two months ago and they still don't have anything to show. I've learned to program drums halfway decently over the years and I can do the vocals myself, so at least I have a backup plan. It just gets frustrating trying to turn a project into a band around here. If these two guys decide to get their act together, all I would need to find is a guitarist! :grr:

If I finish the last track for this demo though, it will be the first complete recording I've ever made! I've got so many unfinished half-albums in my archive after a decade of recording, either due to lack of musicians or decent equipment, so this is a step in the right direction.

Fuck em and just go on and record and get everything done yourself. it'll be more satisfying than being pissed off waiting forever for people. If I did that I'd never have anything fucking done. cause the stuff I did with other people only came about cause I did record myself for other things. Fuck waiting.

two more drum videos, vomitwolves and Oshiego.

It also helps you put together a live lineup if you already have recorded songs. In this way you can just tell them to listen to it before rehearsals rather than waste hours trying to show them how to play it.

EDIT: More gay poppy song covers I literally just played: https://www.facebook.com/irritatingspec ... 304180912/

Actually I think their "album" which is just a bunch of noise has been "released" on last.fm exclusively.

Haha, I'm experiencing what one might call a Marty Friedman syndrome at the moment (playing in an ultra-heavy band but wanting to play more poppy material and wishing I had time for it).

Or you and Somefella can move to Austin and we'll start our own Bolt Thrower. I can pull off Jo & Karl's parts if y'all got the rest.

Only if our Bolt Thrower can have melodic major-key solos!

I can live with it if you can make it work without sounding terrible because major key solos don't have to sound gay or awful.

Been quite a while since I posted here.. Haven't really done much up until recently. Finally been finishing off a possible demo, or maybe EP for Drenched. Just half of one song left to write then recording, mixing, etc. then it should be done. Most likely will be an EP.

Got a new set-up: Still have my Ampeg VH140C, but I also recently got a Crate GX130C for $100. Running them though a Bigshot ABY bypass box so I can play both at the same time. Sounds pretty sweet and I'm actually about to start a new project with a friend of mine and the original drummer of Morgue(from Illinois), so I'm excited to see how this will sound mixed up together. Will find out the details tomorrow.

Also drew a new logo for Drenched that I am finally satisfied with

like that logo a lot, good shit. been trying to do logos myself but don't have a band to do one for lmao

holding off on making anything metal for now, started a new soundcloud and im trying to make some decent deep house/ambient. a lot more complicated than I thought it would be but a hell of a lot of fun to make. should have a few tracks up later I might link

Recorded all my parts for my album and sent the unmixed and fake drums version to the drummer and a few friends.

Everyone may feel free to listen here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/lvrt7 ... nmixed.rar

Be warned, it's raw black metal.

After some wrangling and getting things straightened out, I can indeed say that there will be new Blacksoul Seraphim material released by the end of 2015 and new Sorrowseed material released in 2016. Both releases will be EPs, and the Sorrowseed one will consist of songs from the new album.

After seeing a Chapman ML-1 Swamp Ash on a local music buy/sell forum in mint condition going for practically half of local retail price, I've decided to pull the trigger. Nothing but great reviews on it, especially regarding build quality. And with the saved money, I can do one of my favourite things in the world, wish is to pickup hunt!

So my plan now for Drenched is to record just one more song, make a promo tape and send out some promo packages out to a few labels and save the other 2 or 3 songs for if/when something happens. Will most likely start doing this next weekend.

Also restrung my guitar last week with a custom set I made, cause I wanted the 3rd string to be wound rather than plain.

Our drummer (Illusions Dead) made a lyric video for a song from our upcoming album.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRdmov1KjIg

Release is just a matter of time now. Gotta get the CDs printed and such. We decided not to sully the incredible cover art (featured in the video) by any logo or font. The album cover will feature the painting in all its glory.

Also, since you're here, do you have any experience with the differences between the Evolution 1 and 2, bridge model? From my research on both written reviews and sound demos, Evo 1 is powerful, bright and high-mids focused, but some say its too ice-pick trebly, lacks dynamics, and highlights playing inaccuracies (I see this as a good thing actually). Evo 2 is supposed to be a more PAF-fy version of it with less high end bite and output, which sounds ideal but I'm actually trying to brighten up a dark guitar.

Yeah, I'll definitely spam it once the big news are in!

Sorry, I have almost no experience with DiMarzio. I've also heard that Evo 2 is more balanced, and that might just be why some think it's less ice-picky and stale. People who complain about that probably just have it in a guitar and a setup that it isn't suited for, such as a bright strat-scale guitar and a bright amp. I'm sure it's an excellent pickup, but maybe a little situational, hence why they introduced a more balanced Evo 2.

I put a JB to balance a dark guitar, but what I learned from that was not to rely on the rest of my equipment to smooth out the booming bass. I tried a friend's amp (H&K Tubeneister), and it sounded like shit any way I could dial it in (could've nailed that old-school doom metal tone, though), even though with his guitar it sounded nice and sweet.

I'm tempted to simply go with my own experience and slap an SH-6 in it but I was hoping for some variety. At the same time this is the risk of buying pickups, its always a blind purchase until you actually install it.
