Saving up for a guitar still but i'm starting to write up some ideas. Hoping to start up a black metal/ambient type project. Always something I've wanted to do but never got around to it, and now that I know much more about music theory and mixing/mastering because of producing electronic music for a while, I think this would be a good time to try it out. One man band here I come.

Went down to SLK's sexual torture dungeon to work on new Spawning Vats material. It's...different, but I'm digging it a lot and very eager to keep working on it. Good session.

but hell even then I still made time for rest sit and read some comics or play a video game.

But whatever works for you till it doesn't.

Very good session indeed. I'm surprised you took that whole 2 liter bottle in your ass!

Made a new cover today. Vocals worked out way better than the last one imo. But can't get the drums decent enough. Quite weak sounding.

Just recorded basslines for a black metal band I've agreed to studio session for. Haven't played bass in a really long time but it went alright apart from me feeling a bit awkward.

Going to record another Oshiego scratch guitar track on Friday for this man-child to smash drums to. That makes number 6, almost there!

Also spent a while playing some un-serious guitar for the first time in a while (I tend to approach 'band' stuff with a more serious mindset while I just noodle around casually for other shit that I play), playing some Uli Jon Roth Seas of Charon solos, and of course, gay-ass J-pop! (https://www.facebook.com/irritatingspec ... 474525912/)

I'm at the moment writing some serious technical black metal. Playing technical is so challenging and fun. And to make it dark for black metal, that much more challenging.

We've got interest from a drummer. Seems like someone who is really serious about his drumming. He's more a black metal drummer, but also likes to play osdm. But I don't care too much. It seems to me that the average black metal drummer is more technical grounded and tighter than the average DM drummer in general.
But we'll see. I hope it works out.

You guys don't happen to know who likes mixing underground stuff for the fun of it or for cheap? Like if it doesn't have to be good or professional, just better than my blind pasting together of tracks.

How many songs? I bet someone here would lend a hand. I could even give it a stab, though I haven't really done all that much metal related.

12 actually but they're short and not many layers. Still a bit away though, I only have 2 recorded, and when I'm done I need to send them to a friend to play drums.

I will look into some tutorials on YouTube, too, to see what I can do on my own if I learn the basics.

Is there a tool that can analyse a drum pattern and tell you the exact bpm? I don't trust the program I use to program drums to stick exactly to the bpm it is supposed to give me.

Try this. Very first thing that popped up on Google.

http://download.cnet.com/MixMeister-BPM ... 90906.html

Ripped the skin right off my finger at practice last night. I felt it starting to blister too throughout the set and during the very last song (incidentally the new song we wrote that's mostly a Marduk-esq blastfest), I felt it rip off about a minute in. That friction SUCKS when you're missing a layer of skin right on the fulcrum point. Right now it's burgundy red and sensitive to touch, but at least it's not stinging from friction and sweat anymore.

Mixing and mastering of the Illusions Dead album is finally done, and today we received the cover art from Moonroot, a Czech artist. It looks kind of nice:

After all this waiting, it looks like the album will actually be released this year.

I feel obliged to promote our artist, because he put far more work into it than would've been sufficient. He has made some other pretty brilliant looking art, so go check it out for your amusement, or if you're looking for an excellent artist for your own band's artwork.

By the way, once again reading about people charging $5 for a bunch of files made me decide to change the pricing of my digital releases from $1 to zero. I think people are insane.

I've been kinda busy and lazy at the same time, I'll resume the works on the album this week at all costs.

I've been playing guitar occasionally these days and I came up with some death/doom prospects of songs. Not sure what I'll do with them.

Arranged another scratch track (structure, harmonies, tempo map, etc) to be sent to play drums to. Received another (awesome) drum track to put down final guitar recordings to.

I haven't been rehearsing much since our drummer is in the midst of a hellish recording with his other band (label gave them quite an insane deadline and not much money). This is one of the great things I like about being independent; you and you alone get to make these decisions. In the case of my friend, a lot of material had to be scrapped or rearranged unsatisfactorily simply because there wasn't enough time and money. Also, if you are under a tight deadline and don't have enough songs and have to write one, hashing something out for the sake of it under pressure might not reflect the best of your writing ability.

I also learnt this! About half of the most famous Uli Jon Roth guitar solo ever. (https://www.facebook.com/irritatingspec ... 777660912/)

Made another cover. It sucks having no drummer, so I'll pass the time making these.
I think the vocals improved again. I've caught a bit of a cold but it worked out.

First time I used the HM300 and also the first time I got a decent sound out of it. Man, it reacts so different on the tiniest change of settings.
Pain in the ass to setup. I don't understand how people get an instant Swedeath sound out of it with every amp.

I need to write another black metal song for my album because I discovered otherwise the ratio of black metal songs vs experimental songs would be off balance. The problem is that I can't just sit down and write great songs, I need to have the right inspiration. Hope this doesn't cause a delay.

-edit- But what I can do is use a leftover song from an abandoned project. Life is so simple sometimes. Happy with everything now.

Yup, best guitar I've ever played. And has a great floyd rose system. I almost never have to tune it. The neck really suits me.
Got it through some good trade deals.

I've been stuck in a rut for the past several years. The cycle goes like this:

Get depressed that I haven't made any music lately --> Come up with musical idea --> Start to work on that idea and, after a putting in a good bit of work, eventually record a song --> Stop working on it for a few days --> Revisit the song and start to think it's a piece of shit for multiple reasons --> Toss the song and delete everything.

I don't know how to break this cycle, but I really have to.

I want to lower my tuning from D to C, what is the best string thickness for that? I mean both for guitar and bass.

It has been a while since I worked on much of anything, due to obligations, but I made a new punk song for one of my classes. The version I used for school lacked the vocal tracks, for obvious reasons.

I played in C for years using DR's 12-60 strings. That was extremely stiff, though. I lowered to B standard from that, and the 12-60 is now about appropriate despite the much reduced string tension. If I remember correctly, Bob from Immolation uses 13-56 strings by D'Addario.

What are you using now? What's scale is your guitar?

B standard could be good, too. Might sound even more in tune with what I intend to play.

I don't remember what I'm using, I haven't put on new strings in a long time. ;)

maybe skip that part about working on it for a few days.

That way you can complete it and then later you can second guess it if you want.

like a thing I did earlier this year I recorded all the songs and while mixing it I kinda got pooed on it and stopped. then I showed a guy a couple of songs and he was floored and basically that made me want to pick it back up.

Somehow your beard got even bigger. I conclude that it must be a living creature symbiotically attached to your face.

Also, I would never be able to play cymbals that loose.

I don't like tight cymbals plus they bust far quicker if I did. Not saying one way or the other is better, just works for me and after playing how I've done this is what I've concluded works for me.

and you are probably right about my beard.

Though in reality I think it all depends on the humidity, it does curl up more so some days cause if it's wet when I get out of the shower, it hangs past my belly button.

I'm about to release a USPM record with the band FINAL SIGN. It's coming out 10/30 on Tribunal/Divebomb Records. It's my first full-length Metal album in a long time...since K-Octave back in 2001. Cover art, layout, & mastering are done...just waiting on pre-order date.

Nice SLK! I can hear a liiiiitle bit of guitars with the Oshiego song and it sounds like it's great.

We auditioned a new drummer last night. And he was fucking great! 19 years old and plays for 7 years but when he started playing my jaw dropped to the floor. Really hard and consistent hits on the bass drum and snare. And really sick blasts.
And such a relief to play with as a guitar player. I was used to a drummer who relied solely on me. And if I made a mistake he made it too. But this guy is really consistent and I can follow him. He made a little mistake 1 or 2 times but it is hardly noticeable because he jus keeps playing in the same tempo and after 1 or 2 counts he's back.
The thing that amazed me the most was that he knew the arrangement of the songs after 1 time listening to it/playing along with headphones. This was a thing we had to work on for weeks before our last drummer knew the songs.

Thanks Jasper, that Oshiego full-length is well under way, can't wait for everyone to hear it!

Did another scratch track for this man-pig, so that makes 6 and 2 more to go. Also learned some DragonForce licks because they are cool and therefore so am I. (I can't play death metal all day, the gay poppy melodies and hair-shred tendencies have to have SOME kinda outlet).
