I'm not a musician but I started an international band with some dudes from my MA facebook group. We're aiming for a Bolt Thrower + Dutch death/doom meets funeral doom sound. I'll include the song I wrote with Zodijackyl for the challenge in it but we're gonna change it to fit the style. The lyrical concept is historical, it's about war mostly. The artwork/logo (I'm not revealing the name of the band and the concept of the artwork) will be done by my young cousin who's a very good artist, I'm excited by this as I'm being really bored recently :(

Lineup:
Me: vocals, lyrics
Necroticism: vocals
Juicebitch : guitars, mixing
Markov : guitars, drums
IX Leviathan : bass, vocals
RageW: guitars, drums, etc

Zodijackyl will contribute what he wants to contribute

Sounds great!

I'm currently learning some Turkish songs on bass, it's a quite interesting harmonic approach.

For my band Boxcutter I got some stuff lined up. Looking really good. Hopefully gonna get a split and an EP out and start playing shows.

For a second there I almost thought you meant the hardcore band Boxcutter who have been around for over a decade that's released like 4 albums. something like that. They are from New York as well.

Well as long as they aren't a metal band I'm okay with having the same name. Maybe I'll make it xBoxcutterx and throw people the fuck off lol.

The doom band has pretty much sorted the structure of a new song, channelling Sleep/Uncle Acid and the deadbeats/Kyuss vibes. It's groovy as hell. And we're planning a shitload of gigs, got a possible one next month, one in September, one in October, and we're going to try and get an opening slot for Pentagram in November.

Also I've worked out an acoustic version of Reverend Bizarre - Doom Over the World. The solo's played on a kazoo. It's ridiculous yet kind of fun.

Writing lyrics for what I expect to be a fast paced death/doom song à la Asphyx. And my MA project is welcoming Ribos on keyboards.

I'll start to work on new songs for Vahşet, I've been in a serious Craig Pillard kick lately (Incantation, Disma, Disciples of Mockery, Evoken) and probably a couple of songs will be in the direction of the first 2.

I've been also trying some riffs and I've noticed that I'm very influenced by Trey in that matter.

In terms of my band, we ended up firing the guy who was gonna do our 2nd album's cover arts for being a stubborn cunt about some very slight changes we wanted made to the front cover art. So I've spent a good portion of the day looking up other artists to do the job, including asking some of my musician friends who they recommend and have worked with on album arts in the past.

I'm looking for a drummer just to record a demo, nothing serious but I feel like recording three or four songs (I have two already). It's always fun anyway :)
It's melodic Black Metal or something like that, I'll record a cover of Black Horizons as well.
I hope I'll find a decent one soon.

Writing a song that is going to be Celtic Frost with a Discharge chorus. This will prove to be entertaining and hopefully it doesn't keep me up at night.

I just started playing drums again. Here's a video from my second day behind the kit. A bit sloppy, but I'm getting back into it and having a blast (no pun intended). I'm playing a song from my own band here. I normally play guitar/vocals in the band, but wrote all these drum parts myself.

Hope it sounds okay.

Well I think your playing works for he style you are playing. I honestly don't hear any snare. It almost all kick so at least I know you have some power on that. on the snare not sure if it's the snare itself or that you aren't hitting it hard enough.

since i'm in town for the weekend I didn't get much recorded wrote and recorded 2 54R songs one new KP song and I mixed this KP ep that I'll be throwing up on bandcamp later today. just have some final tweaks on that. and I'm doing the layout now.

Thanks a lot. I've been tightening up since this video was taken (just over a week ago). As for the snare, I suppose I could hit it a little harder, but it's mostly the snare that's the problem. A few of the wires of the snare are broken, making it sound weak, and I've been too lazy to change them. I'll do it sometime in the next few days. :)

That was my first assumption cause when you hit it to start off it sounded like ass.

finished mixing and the layout for Kamikaze Pilots:

I'll be promoting it in the proper thread later today. bout to head on out.

Hearing the song with guitars and vocals might give a better perspective, but you definitely use the crash excessively to my taste.

I think I've just found a new harmonic approach, completely evocative of Cthulhu. I showed half of a track to my wife she said it she found it atmosferically similar to Portal and Mitochondrion. I'll try to record a demo this week, sounds pretty rad to my ears.

It goes well with the guitar parts, I think. Here's a recent performance of the song with the actual drummer of the band on drums. He plays the very first part a little different than I do with the cymbal crashes. It's not as...excessive.

Bought a sweet polyphonic analog synthesizer over the weekend, an Akai AX60. It sounds fantastic, the the lowpass filter on it is just wonderful. I do rather like some of my digital synths and you can get a lot of interesting and unique stuff out of analog modellers, but nothing can really match the sound of a true analog filter.

My band has decided to keep pushing our productivity (one album, one ep, a remix album and three videos so far this year) and record a few singles in the next month, so I'm pretty excited to use the Akai on some new material.

Thanks! Most of the credit goes to our vocalist/multi-instrumentalist/lead song-writer. Guy is amazingly talented and crazy prolific. We have a whiteboard in our jam space to keep track of what we're working on- one section for unfinished, one section for currently rehearsing, one section for demoed, and one section for ready to be properly recorded. I think there's around 40 odd songs up there right now and like 4 of them are mine haha.

Good news everyone! I should be getting my new guitar next week. Oh boy oh boy I can't wait, I'll probably post pics as well. :D I think I'll celebrate this by recording a song, and hell why not, I'll do the song that was supposed to be done for the last songwriting challenge which I missed, because it's too good to remain shelved! Now I only have to hope that the UPS motherfuckers won't run over my shit and/or throw it off a cliff during handling.

Looks like things are starting to come together for me, finally. A couple of days ago I had a ham with an old guitarist friend and the singer I've been trying to work with. Things went fantastic, and we are going to now try and get everyone we've been jamming with (A drummer and another guitarist) together in the same room, and see if we can make something of a five-piece. Sound is rather ecclectic at the moment, ranging from doom, stoner/alt rock, power and sleaze. At the end of it, it just sounds like a really heavy, rather evil rock-influenced type of metal. I'm assuming the sound will start becoming more refined if the five-piece works out, and we will get a more focused direction. I'm really loving it all so far, though.

This week is going to contain band practices, and then recording here on Saturday with the doom band.

And tomorrow I might buy a new bass...

After asking someone else to play drums in my band my band will now play Show No Mercy style Slayer thrash. And hopefully the new drummer will be better as well or can play on time.

Also finished writing some stuff for Bludwulf. Be on the lookout.

Having to re-learn the handful of chords I once knew as I've gotten lazy the past 2 years and haven't practised or learned anything at all on the Strat. A few purchases needed in terms of a lead, amp, and picks, but aside from that I'll soon be dishing out the Demo's once again for my revived project.

Its good to be back.
