I'm not really seeing a downside to it. it would be a contest on who can make the longest song and not bust while having sex the entire time it plays overhead.

really officially makes it "hardmode!" i think the sex sould happen in a hammoc too. Anyway, why not have us write stuff that is out of our elemnt? Make all the death metallers writhe black metal, and vice versa. I think that'd be neat

I think that was meantioned before in discussions prior to doing this.

I've already got inmind what i'm doing for the challenge and how to make it more difficult for myself.

if I was going to go about it that way outside of my element... I'd pretty much have to play power metal, and even though I enjoy it.. I won't be able to pull it off. I just don't like doing melody in that sense. and I don't have the skill to pull of some epic solos like that. I would rather drop out than attempt that.

I am planning on adding some symphonic elements which is somehow hard for me, cuz I am used on writing single melody not a harmony :) but I wanna try and see what happens

i just did a demo for kinda what I'm looking to create. not what I'm actually using for the challenge, more so to see if it translates well into recording as good as it did hearing it with my own ears first hand.

I'll put this in the OP, but if you would like to submit an all synth piece or anything in that vein, all keyboard, piano, hell, even just a guitar track ( provided that it actually resembles a song in some way ), then that is fine.

So, we could make an orchestral score?

I'm not too sure what you mean by an orchestral score, but if your referring to writing sheet music, you can write as much as you like.

i might have to sit this out.. i just moved my equipment to my girlfriends house since i spend all my time there. good luck to the contestants though.

by the way, i agree there should at least be a certain style that participants should follow. such as last month's contest was rooted in black metal

Like something you'd hear in a movie. Intense, suspenseful type orchestration.

Id love to hear this man. I love cinematic music. Especially movies like inception and such, when the moment is tense.

Am I too late? I don't have anything planned out, but I should be able to throw something together...probably synth/MIDI based.

I'm betting you have time. the deadline is the end of the month so I think you can join up to the very last day as long as you can get your shit in on that time.

I am just getting out of a long period of writer's block. I finished a song with my friend, but since I didn't write it, he did, I won't submit it, but I will soon write a song with the same friend and submit it.

Haha, I'll try it out, although mine's probably gonna suck ass. Never entered a competition like this before.
I can do guitar, keyboards, vocals...if anyone wants to collaborate on drums or bass (or has lyrics they'd like to share), hit me up w/ a PM.

I currently have neither the time nor the hardware capability to record and produce. Can I submit plain old MIDI instead? I promise it won't be crappy. :P :D

Did a bit of brainstorming on ideas/riffs tonight. Tomorrow we'll probably get some more done, maybe even finish up the songwriting, and I'll get started on the drum programming. I don't wanna give away any details just yet on the style we're going for, since hopefully it will be a nice surprise for people given myself and Grimmig's entries in the other songwriting contest.

it just happens if you are inspired you can really let the juices flow. like I said I'm always writing and recording anyway.

completed bass and just about completed guitars. will probably finish that tmwr.

Thought I almost burnt up my bass amp. but i don't know how but basically the speaker cable totally fried/melted while I was playing and didn't notice till the bass just stopped making sound. had to remove the speaker cord with a pair of plyers. plugged in a new one in a different input. all was completely fine with the head so I just finished my recording and carried on.

I wrote the start of lyrics last night. I hope to finish that up today and record vocals tmwr after guitar. maybe... just depends how I feel and what the weather is like.

Truth. I had a concept in mind, and pounded out a whole song based around the idea in just two nights. I need to get recording fast and work hard on it, production is my weakest aspect.

well this will be extra practice!

i would've finished my guitars today if it wasn't for the potential bass meltdown. i was getting really pissed when I saw all the goddamn smoke.

my main problem is always lyrics. I truelly have to be in that mindset. I can sometimes write a ton of lyrics for multiple songs when i'm in that mood. but I can never force myself into that mindset. if I do I always hate the results and trash everything and restart.

hell for one of my bands... all the recording has been completed for almost a month.. aside from vocals. just haven't been interested in writing any. have song titles... and probably a handful of lyrics.

i'm hoping this weekend something might hit me and i can run with it.
