Ok so for my band we really need a singer and are looking for someone who can do extreme metal vocals. Mainly the singers around here all scream. What other extreme vocal styles are there besides screaming (i know there is like death metal and pig squaling but are there any others)?

I would use the "death rasp" ala Altars- era Morbid Angel. They are very unique. Not many bands do it anymore.

Find a vocalist who can do a style well and stick with it as long as it fits your music. Trying to emulate a style doesn't sound as good as doing what comes naturally.

There's so many different unique sounds. It's usually different from band to band.

But the main styles would be(and some bands that do them):

Death growl : Vader
Brutal death growl : Cannibal Corpse
Death rasp : Belphegor
Black metal rasp : Dark Fortress
Gutteral "Big Chocolate vocals" : Malodorous
Clean and Death growls : Opeth
High pitched/Singing : Judas Priest
Raspy/distorted high pitch : Ensiferum
Grind/ Burping vocals : Cock and ball torture
Deathcore raspy screams : Suicide Silence
Talking/scream vocals : Slayer
Talking/singing vocals : Megadeath
Singing ( i know wtf?) : Nevermore

... And so many more i can't think of atm.

But you really shouldn't be confined by what other people already do. Try to make a unique sound that fits you/and your band.

...Just don't do metalcore vocals. Too many of those fags already.

Try this

Death Growl: Cannibal Copse
Brutal Death Growl: Dying Fetus
Pitch-shifted Gurgles: Rompeprop, C&BT
Screams: Suicide Silence
Pig Squeals: Waking The Cadver
Rasps: Morbid Angel, Toxic Holocaust

If you have all those, I will love your band

But, probably the three most original extreme vocal types are these.

Pretator vocals: Heinous Killings does these along with gutturals. Listen to a couple songs off thier myspace, you'll hear it sometime in the song. It's the "Trr trr trr" growls. Do these by growling, and rattling your tounge as if you were trying to sound like a machine gun.

Cricket vocals: These are pioneered by Cemetery Rapist, listen to any song of theirs to hear it. Do this by tightening your throat a shitload and inhale. You won't be able to make it sound as "slow" as his, but it will sound good.

Torsofuck purrs: They rarely ever do these. Skip the sample and listen to Pussy Mutilation by Torsofuck all the way through. You will know it when you hear it. Do these by using your nose in your growls, make it sound as deep and nasally as you can.
