I spend about 2-3 hours a day practicing technical death metal (not the super wankery kind like Necrophagist) and Chuck Schuldiner solos, but I feel that I'm going no where. So I figured I should practice some jazz.

Can I get some recommendations for jazz songs I can practice?

Improv, my friend. That's the only way you're going to be a very good guitar player (unless you don't really plan on writing your own material). I suppose that's my own opinion, though, and I don't even play guitar (although I certainly appreciate good guitarwork).

I'd recommend checking out any of Greg Howe's material, though. My personal favorite album is Introspection, but you can't really go wrong with anything of his.

All I really need to know is how jazz music works. After a few practices, I'll end up laying on the ground and playing whatever jazz.

Thanks, I'll check out Introspection.

Frank Zappa's entire Guitar CD, check out Hot Rats as well.

John McLaughlin and Al DiMeola are two amazingly ridiculously great guitarists too. DiMeola is often considered the godfather of Shredding, even though he doesn't shred.
