i have a slam brutal death/porngrind side project, it is experimental, meaning i dont want just the regular gutturals. i want to learn as many extreme vocal types possible. the ones i know are:

Death Growl
Screaming
Pig Squealing
Inhale gutturals
Gurgles
Heinous Killings-style predator growls
Cemetery Rapist-style cricket vocals
Cephalotripsy or Guttural Engorgement-style toiletbowl-resonater growls

I'm trying to learn Torsofuck-style purring vocals, the drainpipe vocals that Waking The Cadaver uses on their album (not demo), and exhale pig squeals. could any of you guys give me some info on doing those without machines?

Are exhale pig squeals possible?
I'd like to see an example of them.

Yeah they are, they are also a fuck of a lot better than inhales. Stronger and louder. I was at a Cattle Decapitation concert a few days ago, and a band called "Destroy The Opposition" opened for them. They did a few squeals and I talked to the singer after the show, he told me you need to put your tounge on the roof of your mouth and tighten your throat and breathe out, but not too tight. It sounds really good and they don't fuck up your lungs like inhales do. He also said it takes a bit of practice, so I'll just keep trying.

I'd say they probably sound like this:

From what I've heard, pig squeels absolutely ruin a lot of brutal death metal. But if you can make them sound good, good luck.

Bree bree -- holy shit, do people really listen to this? I was waiting for the blast beats and a voice screaming "you fucking suck!" (See Anal Cunt, "311 Sucks") But I'm beginning to think that this is not a joke. I remember when I first heard Waking the Cadaver. I honestly thought that it was a band making fun of music that sucks. Turns out some people really think this shit is brutal. Apparently, bree bree is the new metalcore.

It's unlikely that you'll be able to replicate all those different styles. Everyone has different vocals chords, different lungs, different everything. Unless you're some sort of transformer who can change these things at will to reflect the vocalists of those individual bands, you'll probably not be capable.

Anyone got any tips for pig squeals my voice seems to be deep and good for low deep death metal vocals and i can growl but its really deep.
I can pig squeal sort of but it does not have the high-pitched squeal to the noise. So when doing the "Bree" pig squeal its to deep to be classed as a pig squeal and just sounds like a pointless death growl rather then a pig squeal.

I've been doing that for some time, but that's not what I call a pig squeal, although I might be wrong. I do pig squeals differently.

Nope, not if you know how to do them. I can do em both pretty well, you just gotta REALLY push from the gut.

Yeah, not really. The way I go about replicating other peoples new vocal styles is by finding my own way to make a sound like theirs. For example, I exhale when i do the Cemetery Rapist vocals, and Clay inhales. When I do Heinous Killings predators, I use my tounge to do it instead of throat like he does. You are right, people have everything different, which is why you shouldn't give up on something just because the way they do it doesn't work for you. Not to brag, but within a few months of practicing, I'm pretty good at any vocal style I try. But I'm only 12 so maybe my vocal chords are still developing. Whatever, I'll still try learn as many extreme vocal types as possible.

Alright, well, I'm going to break it to you bluntly: you probably can't replicate them. It might sound like it to you, but what you hear and what is actually coming out your mouth don't sound the same.

And even if you can, chances are it'll all get fucked up when your voice develops.

I don't really care if I sound like Corpsegrinder, and besides I don't inhale that much, so that will help my lungs a lot.

You're 12?! Fuck, man, stop doing extreme vocals at least until your voice has developed properly, you're more likely to fuck it up permanently doing these vocals at your age.

No, not yet. My band's demo should be out in 2 to 7 months, depending on how soon we get our recording shit.

I don't know, I have the voice of a 15 year old, it's unusually deep for my age, so I do them anyways. I need to drink more water is all.

Well, with the voice of a 15 year old, you should be set! Get a computer mic and record some of your vocals, I want to hear a 12 year old do extreme metal growls. If you play your cards right and put up a youtube video you might become the next internet sensation.

In a few weeks or so, I'm going to tape me doing a vocal cover of "Vaginal Impalement" by Heinous Killings and some guitar covers, so I'll post the URL's here when I do.

I suppose It'd be pretty cool to be an "internet sensation", but I'd much rather be known for good vocals and guitar, not just because I do it so young. Age doesn't matter.

Me, I just exhale with a really loose throat. Thats the only way I can describe it.

Ok will have to give it ago.
Has anyone watched Melissa Cross: The Zen of Screaming Vol 1 or Vol 2 they are ment to be good for helping to learn about how to growl and scream without damaging your voice.

I'm trying to learn Torsofuck-style purring vocals, the drainpipe vocals that Waking The Cadaver uses on their album (not demo), and exhale pig squeals. could any of you guys give me some info on doing those without machines?

exhaled pig squeals for me involve tightened throat. I keep the same tongue and mouth shape for both exhaled and inhaled pig squeals. Personally i find exhaled pig squeals more consistent, and more squealy unless you push yourself a lot while doing inhales, which isnt a good idea.

i totally agree. i can do the predators using both throat and tongue, i find the tongue sound closer to heinous killings, but the throat is easier in my opinion, far more sustainable.

also, i learned to do guttural inhales form experimenting with inhaled pig squeals. Its really just lowered, changed shape of your passageway, and perhaps less are inhaled to make it more gurgley/brutal sounding.

i find experimenting with vocal techniques like that stuff a lot of fun, pisses everyone off cuz i walk around making those noises lol...
now workin on perfecting Tuvan throat singing, just need to be able to separate the two tones more.
