Hey MA, my band Hoarfrost is gearing up to play our first couple of shows (both Friday nights, and both shows within a week of each other - pretty sweet!) and I'm just looking for some feedback on us.

We're going for an old school sound, mainly European in origin. It's a mix of black and death metal, in any amount - some songs are more more bm, some are more dm, and some are anywhere in between It's mainly of a more "standard" bm / dm sound, with a splash of melody thrown in, but it's not an overall focus for us.

At the moment, we just have the one track up, but we are gonna be recording more soon. And BTW, this is just us recording us, nothing professional (unfortunately).

So, thanks and appreciate any feedback. I can post lyrics, answer questions, etc all you want :)

cheers,
--N

I really liked it. The drums were a little loud but it's a demo track of course :).

Thanks!

The drums were the only instrument we recorded "live", the rest all could be plugged right into the computer, and I suppose due to that, the drums are like perma-loud, lol. It's always been a pain.

Anyone else, there are quite a few views here, but only the one comment?

It's really not THAT loud, haha. We lowered the drums as much as we could, and they are just a bit too prominent in the mix, is all.

definetly old school. I like it.

I have one peice of constructive critisism;
use a vocal processor to take the edge of your vocals. (its a bit too present)

good job man!

Thanks very much!

I'll write that down, and talk to the techie guitarist of the group about it. It could definitely be a worthwhile investment :)

Glad you liked it! We're working on recording a second track, of which I am personally reminded of early Morbid Angel with a blackened edge to it, sound-wise. I'll update this thread once we get it up, but for now, any other takers?

I liked it, as others have mentioned has a good old school vibe. Also, the vocals are good. I like it when the growls are still intelligible

Glad you liked it, thanks! I try to ensure I have good enunciation, even when screaming :P

We also have a video up from our first show on the 16th of the track 'Rise ov Thor', and it sounds great! Please check it out and let me know what you think - it's on our MySpace page!

Generally a good song, i like the tune. Maybe the drums could be more varied..
But it is only matter of an opinion, of course.

I think the vocals are great how they are.
