It's really hard to tell anything about vocals when they're not put in with some music, unless they're clean. But I have to say it sounds like you're forcing it way too much. Doesn't sound very natural. Then again, this might just be the recording, maybe your vocals sound awesome in reality.

I'm not forcing it. It might be because my lips are too close to the mic. I'll record once more.

Next time, use a website like Soundclick so its a lot easier for everyone to listen.

Sounds decent for tough guy hardcore, but not at all what I'd call a black metal voice. Its impossible to really critique your technique, but try to scream much louder.

Maybe I just don't have very good ears, but to me it sounds like you just started singing yesterday. This is pretty much what it sounds like when my friends and I are bullshitting around and singing Slayer or whatever. I would definitely recommend a vocal coach.

Nah man! What happened to DIY? Think about how people figured it out in the past.
To the OT, just keep practising your vocal techniques, get a better microphone too.

Yeah man! Who needs technique, good sound, and the ability to keep from injuring yourself when you have indie cred!

Yeah!

I'm going to say it was good entertainment. The vocals were not horrendous, they were alright. It doesn't differ from other black/thrash I heard but it's not really suited for pure black metal. The lyrics were kind of funny though. Did you make those up? You should sell them to Dethklok.

No need for the sarcasm.

I'm not saying he should destroy his vocal chords.
Technique and good sound can be acquired without a vocal coach. Countless black metal vocalists have obtained great screams without any formal coaching.

Although getting a vocal coach may be a quicker route, it may not be as fun trying to figure it out yourself.

Gah, have to agree with you on this one.
If you haven't heard Venom's "black metal" then you should've because its a crime. Grrr!

Vocal coaches do not encourage speed when it comes to learning. That's why musicians that have vocal coaches have such strong technique; because the techniques are taught over a long period of time, in small increments.

@ Lord_Sauron, don't get rushed, it took me over a year to develop my grunts and growls, and I'm now just getting to the point where I can project them well. There are a good many books and dvds that can help you develop proper technique. Just take your time, and don't rush it.

You have good vocal quality, just no technique to go with it. Just like learning to play an instrument well, it will take a good while to learn to do harsh vocals, but the patience pays off, believe me.

I'm not saying you can't be good without a vocal coach, because this is obviously not true. However, not getting a coach just to remain "DIY" is, in my opinion, an INCREDIBLY stupid thing to do.

When you record though, record it to music.

even its just a rough guitar, it helps alot to be able to judge it.

most gutteral and hard vocals sound bad by themselves
